Will Dean sell Colby down the River? Can Maggie cope while Ben goes back to work? Can Olivia and Jasmine make their new housing arrangement work?

Extended Summary

Dean is playing pool at the surf club as Hunter and Ryder come downstairs and ask him if he’s going to be long. Dean curtly says he is so they sit at a table. Hunter comments on Ryder having lost his entourage: Ryder says Raffy is busy and Coco is still at camp and hasn’t replied to his messages. Colby comes in but doesn’t even look at Dean as he heads upstairs. Dean throws the cue down in disgust and tells the boys it’s all theirs. Next morning, Maggie and Ziggy are teasing Brody about singing in the shower over breakfast. Ben comes in and they rib him about his look. He offers to stay with Maggie and she tells him Roo’s coming over with some paperwork.

Ben sees his new workmates laughing outside the surf club and hastily dirties his shoes before approaching them. The foreman, Rick, acts as though Ben’s late then assures him he’s only joking, saying they’ll be working on Saxon Avenue the next couple of days before moving onto the school. Ben gets a phone call from Coco but doesn’t answer it. Rick tells him Baz doesn’t like phones on site and fired the last guy he saw with one. Ben starts to say about Maggie, then just says he needs it. Rick says it’s his funeral. Meanwhile, Leah is watering plants outside the Diner as Colby appears. She asks him about Robbo and Colby says it looks like he’s sticking around. He asks about Jasmine and Leah says she’s inside. Ebony watches from further along the beach.

Colby approaches Jasmine inside. She asks if he’s feeling better and he says he was staying with some cop mates in the city. Ebony comes in and listens as they discuss his suspension: He’s planning to go in and check what’s going on. Roo comes in and tells Leah about going to see Maggie, ordering some cakes to take. Leah is still feeling aimless and says she couldn’t find any online communities that were relevant to her. Roo encourages her to keep trying. Jasmine heads home, where she thinks Olivia is having a day off but Olivia insists she’s working on designs. Olivia looks less than impressed that Jasmine thinks she’s lucky being able to work from home. Despite Olivia saying she’ll do them, Jasmine insists on clearing up the dishes, which Olivia also looks unhappy about.

Colby goes to see McCarthy, who tells him the investigation’s still ongoing. He mentions that they’re calling Dean back in to see if his statement matches Colby’s. McCarthy adds that he does want Colby back. Colby meets up with Dean near the Diner and they talk about him being called in. Dean asks if the police know about Colby’s River Boy past. Colby asks if he’s going to do the right thing or get pay back.

They retire to the flat where Colby insists shooting Boyd was just instinct. Dean is dubious about Colby caring about him. Colby says when he tried to get Dean to help him with his stepfather, the result was the accident, and he needed to distance himself from him and join the police to find Bella. Dean thinks Colby should have told him. Colby insists, despite what he said before, the River Boys did mean something to him. Dean doesn’t believe him and, despite Colby’s questioning, walks away. Meanwhile, Roo has turned up at Maggie’s. She makes a joke about a storeroom bandit but Maggie is distracted by her phone, saying Ben always texts her when he’s at work.

Brody and Ziggy are chatting in the surf club: With Ash away and Justin in the city with Ava, Ziggy is running the garage on her own. Ben and Rick come in and Rick tells Ben to stay for a drink. Ben wants to get home but Ziggy tells him one can’t hurt. Rick is taken with her but backs off on learning she’s Ben’s daughter and Brody’s girlfriend. Ben and Rick head upstairs. Ziggy goes home and fills in Maggie and Roo. Roo has to go, as does Ziggy who’s just had a text from Olivia. Maggie decides to cook Ben lasagne as a surprise. Ziggy warns her it’s not the 1950s.

Colby looks through the file in his flat, taking out a photo of Bella. Meanwhile, Dean meets McCarthy at the station. McCarthy explains they need to ask some follow-up questions. Dean says there were plenty of police there who saw everything but McCarthy says none of them had Dean’s vantage point. He asks if Dean thought he was in danger and what he thinks would have happened if Colby hadn’t shot Boyd.

At the Diner, Olivia is complaining to Ziggy about Jasmine, saying she thinks she has it easy working from home. Ziggy says she does, pointing out she’s having coffee while other people are at work. Olivia adds that Jasmine has the same taste in music as Irene. Ziggy suggests she’s jealous. Meanwhile, Jasmine is coming down from Salt while Colby is playing pool. She walks past him and Colby tells her she doesn’t have to avoid him. She asks him briefly about his suspension but, noting she has bought some beers, Colby says he won’t keep her.

Upstairs, Ben is having a relaxed time with his workmates. He tries to excuse himself but Rick says it’s his shout. Ben goes to order more drinks from Brody. Meanwhile, Jasmine arrives home. Olivia is watching Mean Girls but turns it off when Jasmine sits down, saying it was nearly over. Jasmine hints she wants to have a beer together and unwind but Olivia makes an excuse to go to her room, making polite but not particularly interested responses to Jasmine’s attempts at conversation about doing work you love.

At the police station, McCarthy returns Colby’s badge and gun to him, saying it’s been ruled that he acted honourably. He adds that Dean backed up Colby’s version of events. At the farm house, Maggie lights the table with candles and sits down to wait. At Salt, Ziggy finds Ben still drinking; she warns him not to keep Maggie waiting and he says he’ll just have one more. She joins Brody, who comments on how loud they’ve been. Colby joins Dean, unaware Ebony is watching. He thanks him and offers to buy him a beer. Ebony takes a photograph of them together.
