Extended Summary

Maggie and Ben are excited about their renovation plans for the pier, Ben is yet to show Maggie the sketches but promises to soon. Maggie heads into the diner where she tells Leah, Irene and Marilyn how excited they are about the renovations. She invites the ladies over to her place for lunch to look at the sketches. Irene, Marilyn and Leah make an effort to be excited about them as well and agree that they would love to have a ladies lunch together. At the lunch when Maggie finally reveals the sketches she admits she hasn’t looked at them yet and discovers to her dismay that Ben has gone ahead with the plan to make major changes to the pier including a new restaurant, changes that will effect the diner and other businesses. The other ladies, but particularly Leah, pummel Maggie with questions about the sketches, clearly unhappy with the proposed changes. Leah storms out in a huff but Marilyn and Irene assure Maggie that she will come around and they can talk it out. When the ladies sit down for lunch Marilyn and Irene share their past experiences with adoption and Marilyn gleefully shares the news that her and John would like to adopt again. Maggie asks Leah what her story is and is shocked to hear about everything she has been through. The ladies gush about how the diner wouldn’t be the same if Leah wasn’t a part of it. Maggie realises how much the diner means to them and apologises about blindsiding them with the renovation plans. Leah somewhat glumly says that it’s okay, she just needs some time to adjust to the changes. Ben wakes up the next morning excited to go through the reno plans with Maggie. Maggie tells Ben about her lunch with the girls and reveals that she doesn’t believe the renovations are a good idea anymore. Maggie explains why; she cares about how it will effect the other residents, they are part of a community now so they have to think about everyone rather than just themselves. Ben is gutted.

Justin runs into Ben as he is waiting for the estate agent, looks like he’s been blown off. Justin remarks that he hasn’t been having the best time lately with everything that’s been going on and could use a surf, Ben offers to come with. At the caravan park Scarlett is still reeling from Justin’s rejection. She sees Kat storm past, also frustrated about something and asks if she wants to talk. But Kat, looking for a distraction asks Scarlett what’s going on with her. Scarlett explains that she overshared with Justin and he cut her down. Kat is surprised, that doesn’t sound like something Justin would do, she’s sure there’s more to it. Keen to just forget about the whole thing Scarlett heads off for a swim. But down at the beach Scarlett sees Ben and Justin post surf. Justin sees Scarlett but doesn’t acknowledge her so Scarlett confronts him. She asks if she misread the situation (the earlier moment between them) and whether or not there is anything between them. But Justin doesn’t get a chance to properly explain as Scarlett throws accusations at him and storms off. Later Justin comes down to the caravan park to talk to Scarlett. Justin opens up to Scarlett about Phoebe and his engagement. It all makes sense to Scarlett now and she tells Justin that he still loves her (Phoebe.)

Ash messages Irene and Leah telling them to come upstairs to the apartment. They hurry up, thinking that something is wrong with Luc but are overjoyed to discover that she has started to crawl. Kat comes down to the hospital and tells Tori that Zannis doesn’t have an alibi for the night of the crash but insists he had nothing to do with it. Tori feels guilty as she realises that there is a possibility that Brody was telling the truth. Tori is interrupted by a phone call from Ash, he tells her that Luc has started to crawl. Kat listens on awkwardly, silently fuming because Ash hasn’t called to tell her the news instead. When Tori asks for more information re: Zannis Kat curtly tells Tori that at this stage it is just Brody’s word against Zannis’s. Kat goes to see Ash and finds him at the diner where he is feeding Luc. Ash tells Kat that Luc has crawled and offers to take Luc upstairs to show her. Kat bitterly remarks that she knows and that he could’ve called and told her. Ash is oblivious to Kat’s dismay and her subtle hints. She leaves in a huff and Alf, watching on, tells Ash that he is an idiot. Ash’s ear pain intensifies and when he goes to the hospital Tori diagnoses him with an ear infection. Ash notices that Tori doesn’t seem to be her happy self and that she has been struggling with everything that’s going on lately and invites her over for dinner. Ash cooks his spaghetti for Tori but she is too distracted and upset to eat. She shares her fears about Mason with Ash, her emotions boiling over as she considers the possibility that he may never walk again. Ash consoles her as she lets it all out, she was probably too hard on Brody as well and didn’t even say goodbye to him. She feels as though she’s failed her siblings, she was supposed to protect them and she let this happen. Ash comforts Tori and tells her to have a lie down on the couch while he makes them some coffee. But when Ash turns back a minute later he discovers that Tori has fallen asleep so he covers her with a blanket and leaves her be. Kat sees Scarlett on the beach the next morning and asks whether her problem with Justin has been sorted out. Scarlett asks if Kat has sorted her Morgan issue out (alluding to Kat’s unhappiness about Tori) but Kat has realised that her beef is with Ash rather than Tori and that she needs to talk to him in order to sort their issues out. Kat farewells Scarlett and heads up to the pier to see Ash but is stopped in her tracks. From afar Kat sees Tori leaving Ash’s apartment wearing her dress from the day before. Ash farewells Tori topless and wearing a towel. Kat stands aghast, obviously coming to the conclusion that Ash and Tori have slept together.
