Extended Summary

Heath, Bianca and Darcy walk near the surf club; Darcy is happy about the pregnancy, saying they’re going to be a proper family. Bianca says they already are but Heath says he knows what she means. Down on the beach, Mason is putting flags up. Olivia arrives and comments on him working again; Mason says he’s helping out John and comments on people in Summer Bay helping each other. Olivia wants to stay and keep him company during the shift and, although bemused, Mason agrees.

Nate is checking on Marilyn, who is feeling anxious. He assures her she only needs one operation, to do a skin graft on her torso and a skin flap on her hand. Marilyn asks him about the burns. Nate says the one on her face will heal but is less adamant about the others. He chats to Alf in the corridor before finding Kat collecting the injuries list. Ash turns up. Kat is surprised he’s back and congratulates him on becoming Uncle Marty. Ash notes it’s the only good thing to happen lately.

Heath and Harley are making a sandcastle while Olivia is sunbathing near where Mason is working. She assures him she’s having a good time. Heath brings Harley over, saying he cut his finger on a broken shell. Mason puts a plaster on him; Olivia looks at Mason fondly. At the hospital, Alf and Marilyn discuss the baby being named Luc. Marilyn asks about her burns and Alf says it’s early days. He says the positive thing is that she’s alive and everyone is going to be okay. Marilyn says she knows looks don’t matter but she’s worried she won’t be her anymore.

Bianca and Darcy eat at the Diner; Darcy comments on Bianca eating for two before accepting she has to keep it quiet. She leaves as Nate turns up. Bianca asks for his advice on something. At the police station, Kat is on the phone saying she wants regular updates from Irene’s place and Mick’s photograph circulated. McCarthy asks for a report on the fire and wishes Kat would concentrate on that and leave Mick to Stevenson. Kat reminds him she was the first to say there was a serial arsonist. Ash turns up and asks if Kat can take a break. Kat says she’s swamped so he leaves.

Bianca and Nate chat near the surf club. Bianca says after what happened when she had Rocco she’d resigned to never having another baby. Nate says there’s no reason to assume it would happen again and they can monitor her. At the hospital, Marilyn is about to be taken into surgery and tells a reluctant Alf to let John know she loves him. Nate and Bianca arrive; Bianca has flowers from herself and Irene. Alf chats to Nate in private about what Marilyn was saying.

Ash and Kat meet at the Diner. Ash guesses that Kat’s looking into the bushfire and she thinks all the fires are connected. Kat asks if something happened while he was away but Ash brushes it aside, saying he wants her back. They walk nearby; Kat is exasperated that not too long ago she said the same thing to him. Ash refuses to be drawn, just saying he misses her and has learned life is short. Kat gets a phone call from the station. Ash asks her to think about what he said.

Mason is scanning the waves when Olivia puts her hands over his eyes playfully. She accepts he’s working but says he’s hers in half an hour. Mason muses that her behaviour’s strange and Olivia says she’s trying to show him she’s over Hunter. Mason says she shouldn’t put on an act. Olivia is annoyed and leaves. Later, he tracks her down at the Diner and remarks that he’s probably not her favourite person. Olivia says it feels like she can’t win and assures him what they have is real, especially after she saw him with Harley. Mason asks if he’s too dorky. Olivia says he is but she likes it.

Marilyn comes round from the operation with Alf by her side. Alf calls out for Nate. Marilyn says she feels awful and has a pain in her leg. Nate says that’s where they took the skin from and it’s normal. He tells her to buzz the nurse if she needs more pain relief. Alf tries to calm her but she asks him to go and get the nurse. Later, Marilyn feels her bandaged facial scar and looks at herself in her compact mirror before bursting into tears.

Heath, Darcy and Harley are playing when Bianca arrives home. She notices Harley’s plaster and gets Darcy to take him in the bath. Privately, she admits that telling Darcy about the pregnancy made it real. Heath says he’ll be there if things go wrong again and they’re having a baby of their own. Bianca says they already did. At the police station, McCarthy tells Kat to take charge of the arson investigation and adds that there have been no arsons in nearby areas for six months. Kat concludes the arsonist must be in the town and adds that it’s not just arson but attempted murder.

Bianca comes down from checking on Harley and tells Heath she’s happy with the children they have. Heath asks if she wants to live in fear. Bianca claims she’s just being practical, listing the problems of having another child, before saying she can’t have the baby.
