Extended Summary

Leah chases after VJ trying to explain why she kept such a big secret from him. All this time VJ thought his father was dead and now he finds out he was alive. VJ is beyond upset as Leah tells him she had no choice, both she and Vinnie had to keep it a secret. for his own protection. But VJ says if they really loved him, they wouldn’t have lied to him. Later that evening, Charlie offers to explain to VJ about witness protection, but Leah states that she’s the one that has all the explaining to do. VJ soon starts to accept what she’s saying and announces that he wants to speak to Elijah about his dad’s last moments. When VJ goes to bed, it suddenly hits Leah that Vinnie will never be coming back. During their discussion, Elijah explains to VJ, among other things, that his dad thought about him all the time, and regretted not being able to spend his life with him. Elijah tells VJ that Vinnie will always be there for him, watching from heaven, and all he has to do is talk to him. This brings small relief to a tearful VJ.

Although Elijah and Leah are still as strong as ever, Elijah feels like he’s let her down and he shouldn’t have carried the secret around for so long. With that, Elijah decides to spend some time away from Leah, much to her disappointment. But he can barely stay away as he rushes to the diner that evening and straight into her arms.

Xavier is working out a way of getting the box of money back from Martha’s house and he’s enlisted Ruby’s help. Ruby also suggests getting some details from Colleen about good hiding spots in the bay once they have the money back. When they arrive for dinner at Martha’s place, Ruby gets to work distracting Martha while Xavier moves into the hallway where the manhole and the money are. When Xavier comes back into the room, the colour has drained from his face – the money’s gone.

Ruby and Xavier are desperately trying to work out whether Martha knows about the missing money and it’s clear she does when she approaches Xavier with the box, asking if this is what he’s looking for. Martha is well aware of what’s inside as Xavier explains that it was an inheritance left by Hugo. Xavier explains further that Hugo asked him to do something good with the money. Now knowing the money belonged to Hugo, Martha promises not to reveal anything to Gina.

Colleen gives Ruby a book on Summer Bay’s history, which includes a map to a secret hiding place that she knows of, an old WW2 bunker. Xavier notes that he’s seen the book before, and finds one at home on the bookshelf. Colleen had given it to Hugo. They head out to the bunker and Xavier is shocked to discover that in a hiding spot is a picture of him and Hugo, along with a new loaf of bread. Xavier tries to piece everything together realising that someone has stayed there recently, someone who has possession of this photo?
