Ruby’s crush is beginning to get out of hand. Bartlett oversteps the mark with Kirsty. Melody returns to the Bay.

Extended Summary

In his quest to impress Kirsty, Bartlett has bought himself a motorbike. But he’s barely ridden it into school when it keels over on him, humiliating him in front of students and giving him a nasty knock to the head. He insists he’s fine, but after a dizzy spell Kirsty takes him to hospital. When the doctor insists he spend the rest of the day resting Kirsty is put on the spot, and agrees to look after him. When she sees his house, sparse and mismatched furnishing, a freezer full of TV dinners, she can only feel sorry for Bartlett and the lonely life he obviously leads…until he asks her to move in with him.

Geoff’s doing his best to pretend Nicole doesn’t exist, and she’s running out of patience. But when she finally goes to confront him, they’re interrupted by a very surprising visitor; Melody Jones. She’s run away from the clinic after constant harassment from her mother, and she needs Geoff’s help. Nicole thinks he should go straight to the police, or the clinic, but Geoff only sees a girl in need, and won’t betray her. Then Nicole overhears a conversation between Melody’s father and Charlie, about the search for Melody, and discovers that Melody’s mother, Christine is actually in New Zealand. Taken aback by how delusional Melody is, she goes straight to Geoff to tell him. But when the pair arrive back at his house, Melody is nowhere to be found.

Ruby’s crush on Miles is getting stronger, and Annie is getting worried for her friend, especially since Ruby honestly seems to think something could come of she and Miles. For his part, Miles is totally oblivious, seeing only a nice young girl and an attentive student. When a group of students vandalise Mr. Bartlett’s new motorcycle, Ruby steps forward to take the blame, seeing a chance to spend the afternoon with Miles, even if it’s for detention. But the afternoon doesn’t quite turn out to be what she’d hoped, and when Kirsty arrives, Miles lets her go home early. Moments later, Annie arrives to tell Miles that Ruby’s innocent, only to see him kissing Kirsty. But with Miles in the way, she can’t see Kirsty, and assumes, to her horror, that Miles is kissing Ruby.
