Extended Summary

Amanda remains unconscious at the wheel as he calls emergency. Despite their r’ship breakdown, it’s clear that he’s shocked and deeply caring for her welfare. Emergency doors fly open as she’s wheeled in on a trolley. At Amanda’s, a worried Belle finishes a call to Tommy’s mum – Ryan’s still there and no sign of Amanda. A knock at the door – it’s Leah, there’s been an accident. It’s serious. Kelli tries to disguise her glee as they move off to the hospital. Peter’s still pacing about as they arrive – she’s barely conscious. Peter opens up to Dan about how the accident occurred. He believes it was his fault, blinding her with his high beams – why else would she go off the road like that? Kelli doesn’t mention Amanda’s drinking…yet. Peter continues to beat himself up, revealing to Dan the last thing he said to her was that she didn’t exist to him anymore. Dr Young arrives to report Amanda has a burst eardrum, other than that she’s pretty damn lucky. Peter asks to see her and is lead in by a nurse. He sits with her quietly, holding her hand and despite all that’s happened, he’s just glad that she’s alive. Amanda begins to stir, remembering what happened. There’s a connection between Peter & Amanda as he looks fondly at her… This is shattered with Dr Young’s revelation about her blood tests. Amanda was heavily intoxicated. She’s mortified and Peter is furious – he thought the accident was his fault! He lets it rip – what if she’d picked Ryan up already? They could’ve been killed! He strides out. It isn’t long before he returns with Jack, in uniform and formally arrests her for DUI and negligent driving. She’s devastated.

When Drew learns of Amanda’s next stupid act, he heads to Belle’s place – please tell me you’re not backing your mother on this as well? Belle is tired of him bagging her mum when he’s hardly a saint himself. She hits a raw nerve, telling Drew she thinks secretly he can’t stand that Amanda rejected him, so this is his excuse for taking it out on her! He thinks that’s bull. Belle doesn’t care – we’re over. She walks away leaving a stunned and fuming Drew.

Meanwhile, Sally, Brad, Ric and Pippa enjoy a family dinner at the Diner. Jack joins them – and there’s talk of Alf’s return from Nigeria. Conversation stalls as Martha emerges from upstairs. She’s aware of their stares and moves off without acknowledging them. Sally is really concerned – we can’t risk alienating Martha any further. The gang return home and are surprised to see suitcases at the doorway – then Alf appears, he’s home! He catches up on the latest and asks after Martha – he can’t believe she’s moved out and quit her surf club bar job! Rick grimly points out that’s just the start of it. Nervous looks are swapped all round as they fill Alf in on what Martha’s been up to. He’s shocked – he had no idea things were so bad. Alf moves off with purpose! He heads to the Diner Apartment and doesn’t give Martha a chance to speak, instead he lets her know she’s going back to Sal’s, she can’t stay here anymore and keep running off the rails. Martha protests trying to defend her new job – she refuses to budge. Fine. You’re evicted. Pack your things and get out! Alf heads home to Sally, who wishes he’d spoken to her first. They can’t alienate Martha any further – she needs to find her own path and to realise the choices she’s making aren’t good for her. Alf worries – what if she doesn’t? Then that’s a risk they’ll have to take…

Taking Sal’s wisdom on board, Alf returns to Martha’s to apolgise. He still wants her to quit the job and move back with Sal though. Cam appears. Who’s this? Cam paints on the charm for ‘Grandad’, but it’s pretty clear that Alf can see right through it. Alf pulls him aside – Martha was vulnerable after all she’d been through and Cam’s manipulation was bound to work on her. Alf makes it blatantly clear that if he hurts even a hair on Martha’s head, he won’t know what hit him. Cam’s left wondering what happened to Martha… Alf checks in with Jack – he wants him to keep an eye on Cam and the Club. No worries – Jack is doing just that…
