When Leah revealed she was experiencing severe headaches following her coma, she was referred to Sean, a city doctor who organised her an MRI and subsequently diagnosed her aneurysm. She reluctantly decided to have surgery and Sean was called to Summer Bay to conduct it.

It soon emerged that Sean and Hannah were engaged and that they broke up two years earlier on bad terms – Hannah’s sister was dying and Sean wanted to move overseas. Oscar was elated to see Sean, who was determined to put down roots in Australia. The pair struggled to navigate working together after Sean admitted he still had feelings for a taken Hannah, but the frostiness soon thawed between them. After Hannah began to dream about Sean and admitting his lingering feelings for her, Sean kissed her and the pair slept together. Hannah grappled with her infidelity, contemplating returning to Sean, but his chances of their reconciliation were dashed when he revealed that he was married. Sean assured Hannah their marriage was over.

He was avoided by Hannah, until she and Andy ran into him in the diner, where was spending time with his wife, Emma. Hannah confronted Sean who tried to deflect, noting that Emma knows about their one-night stand. He later informed her that Emma was going to tell Andy the truth. Meanwhile, Sean and Emma’s tensions rose, with Emma slapping him during an argument about his affairs, which was caught on camera by Josh. As he reviewed footage, he found a video of Sean and Hannah discussing their one-night stand, and ultimately revealed the truth to Andy.

Some days later, Sean turned up on Hannah’s doorstep and informed her that he had left Emma. He propositioned her into starting their life together again. Andy overheard this and was upset, which caused Hannah to order Sean out of her house and her life.
