Extended Summary
Nate & Matt are organising dinner for the family after Leah being found when they run into Kat. She asks Nate for a swim, then asks Matt how he’s handling everything. Matt knows she’s referring to his upcoming trial over the ATM theft but he brushes off her concern. He also neglects to tell Leah his trial is tomorrow. After Nate & Kat’s swim, she asks how Nate’s been going. He admits he’s tired after everything that happened with Leah but he’s glad she’s agreed to do the surgery. Kat asks after Matt as well, especially considering his court case is tomorrow. Kat realises Nate didn’t know a thing about it. They see Matt as they leave the beach and Nate asks why he didn’t tell anyone about court tomorrow? Matt knows everyone has enough on their plate at the moment. Nate & Kat insist that they come with him, not for supervision but just support. Matt reluctantly agrees. Later that evening they all have dinner together and Kat hands Matt a letter. She says she’s forwarded it to his lawyer and is happy to read it out at trial – it’s a character reference from Kat stating how well regarded he is in the community. Matt is flawed and thankful.
Meanwhile, Zac & Leah are still discussing her request for her life support to be turned off if worse comes to worse. Zac insists that he won’t agree to her wishes unless VJ knows about it. They sit down to tell VJ what Leah’s wishes are but as soon as VJ hears them he blows up in anger. He can’t believe what Leah’s asking! He won’t agree to this. Leah tells Zac she knew VJ couldn’t handle this but Zac reminds her it’s upsetting to hear this stuff. They only just got Leah back and now they’re taking about how they are supposed to let her go again. He can’t imagine giving up on her like last time. VJ has retreated to the diner and Irene clocks his solemn mood. He reveals what Leah has asked of him and Irene tries to help VJ see Leah’s point of view.
At the farm house, Andy & Hannah are back on track, smitten in love. Hannah has her interview at the hospital this afternoon to see if she’s able to come back to work & Phoebe has agreed to take her. The interview goes well and Hannah is able to start back at work tomorrow. Phoebe’s so happy for her; with Andy & work, Hannah finally feels like her life is back on track. Andy is smiling widely at the gym when Billie asks what’s he so happy about? Andy shares the good news about Hannah going back to work. Billie asks how then even got together; they’re so different! Andy, smiling as he reminisces, says it took a little while to wear her down but she came around eventually.
The following morning Leah apologises to VJ, she didn’t mean to upset him. VJ understands now that it makes sense to be practical but he can’t agree to what she wants right now. Leah suggests that Zac & VJ come with her to the hospital and they talk to the neurosurgeon about the surgery. VJ asks the surgeon a lot of questions. When it comes to talking about bad outcomes, the surgeon congratulates them for talking about the hard issues beforehand. VJ is shocked but the surgeon assures him that without these conversations, families can be lost when it comes to making decisions about their loved ones’ quality of life. As they exit the surgeon’s office, VJ tells Leah he’s decided to respect her wishes. She can rely on him & Zac to do what needs to be done if it comes to that. First day back at work, Hannah sees Leah, VJ & Zac leave the hospital and then sees the neurosurgeon – she recognises him and hides. Later he catches sight of her and says hi. Hannah smiles awkwardly…what’s the history between these two?
Walking along after just being to Court, Matt is looking very relieved – he has received a good behaviour bond. Matt tells Nate & Kat how sincerely grateful he is for their support, especially thankful for what Kat said about him. Kat just asks that Matt prove her right and show his full potential. Matt later gives Leah the good news, then tells her he’s decided to move out. She insists he doesn’t have to but Matt is happy to give everyone a bit of space for a while.
