Extended Summary

Olivia and Jasmine are walking near the Diner. Olivia is still encouraging Jasmine to go after Colby. Jasmine says it’s not the right time and goes for a run. Irene is standing nearby and notes no good ever comes of the look Olivia’s giving. They head into the Diner where Olivia asks if she’s being crazy. Irene wonders what the polite way of saying yes is and says she needs to stay out of it. Nearby, Ben asks Maggie if he can take her home but she wants to get out of the house. He heads off to work and Roo arrives with the very large pile of notes Maggie gave her on that day’s school. Maggie wonders if she could text or Skype them.

Justin leaves a phone message for Ash, saying he needs to talk to him about the garage. He runs into Mason and tells him about the garage being shut down and the brake line being frayed. He is very agitated, thinking the garage might be closed for good. Mason reminds him that he trusts Ziggy, so there must be another explanation. At the Diner, Irene provides Marilyn and Raffy with food for the new foster kid, Ty. Raffy detaches herself to chat to Mason when he comes in, noting that she doesn’t know much about Ty and he might be a weirdo. Mason jokes that he’ll fit in with her. Raffy recalls having trouble adjusting after it was just her and Hope for so long.

John welcomes Ty and his social worker Catherine to the house, with Marilyn and Raffy also coming over to greet him. The table is laid out with a large amount of food but Ty says they’ve already eaten. John notes that there’s probably some paperwork to do and he and Marilyn follow Catherine outside, telling Raffy to show Ty around. However, despite her trying to make conversation, Ty merely asks for directions to his room and goes there. At the Diner, Justin asks Colby if there’s any news on the garage and Colby says he’ll have to talk to Fair Trading. Justin asks him about the kidnapping, wondering if anyone’s even looking for Hazel. Colby insists they’ve got a whole team after her. He also says he knows Justin left Ziggy to look after the car. However, when he refers to Ebony as a victim, Justin suggests he look at Ava: Unable to go to school or be left alone because she’s too scared. He asks if Colby knows what it was like realising she was gone. Colby snaps that Justin got her back.

Olivia meets up with Colby near the surf club and reminds him she’s Jasmine’s housemate. She says a bunch of people are coming round theirs that afternoon and invites him but he says he has to work. Mason comes along and accuses Olivia of a lame pick-up attempt. Olivia says she was doing it for Jasmine, then recalls Mason likes her. Mason’s fine with it but tells her not to make them her project. Olivia goes home and admits to Jasmine that she invited Colby over but it’s okay because he said no. Jasmine decides to text Colby to sort things out and Olivia excitedly offers to leave them alone. Jasmine decides to forget it and goes in the shower. Olivia sends the text she wrote.

John and Marilyn come back in and Raffy explains Ty’s in his room. She is disappointed the food went to waste but Marilyn says they can have it another time. As they’re debating whether to approach Ty, he emerges and says he’s going for a walk. John suggests a coach tour and Marilyn suggests a walk on the beach but they back off when it’s clear Ty wants to go alone. John tells him they eat at 6.30 and describes him as independent. Raffy thinks he’s rude. At the Diner, Maggie texts Roo just as she comes in. Roo doesn’t really have anything to report but offers to go over the year coordinators’ meeting. Raffy comes in and tells Irene that Ty didn’t eat any of the food. Irene points out he doesn’t know the trouble they went to and advises her to give him a chance but Raffy isn’t impressed.

Mason finds Justin at Salt. He admits his talk with Colby didn’t go well and he could be charged with negligence: He let himself get distracted by Raffy and Willow and talked round by Dean. Mason insists the crash was an accident but Justin says Ebony could have been killed. Meanwhile, Colby turns up at the beach house just as Jasmine is coming out of the shower, dressed only in a towel. He says he got her text and Jasmine says she didn’t send it. When Olivia cautiously arrives home later, Jasmine blasts her, saying just because Olivia regrets what happened with Hunter doesn’t mean she’s the same and Olivia doesn’t know what’s happened between her and Colby. Olivia is apologetic but thinks Jasmine shouldn’t give up.

John is tunelessly playing Ty’s guitar and Marilyn warns him not to let Ty see him touching it. Ty comes home and John tries to ask him about his walk and his music but Ty only gives perfunctory answers. Marilyn is worried but John thinks they should give him time. Meanwhile, Ben comes home to get his yellow shirt and tells Maggie they’ve finished the Saxon Avenue job so will be at the school the next day. Maggie is going to see John and Marilyn about Ty. Colby and Jasmine meet up on the beach. Jasmine notes that neither of them’s ready for a relationship so suggests a friends-with-benefits arrangement. Colby is apparently up for it, since next time we see them they’re entering his flat in a passionate embrace and diving onto the sofa.

Meanwhile, at the Palmer house, Maggie has enrolled Ty but he shows little interest. Marilyn says Maggie can look out for him and Maggie admits she’s not sure she’ll be there but says Roo and Raffy will show him the ropes. John and Marilyn walk Maggie out while Raffy tells Ty it’s not smart to be rude to the principal. Ty says he won’t be there long: He turns sixteen in a few weeks at which point he’s going back home. Raffy is incensed, saying John and Marilyn have rearranged their lives for him and he should just go, since no-one wants him there. John and Marilyn come back in time to hear the tail end and are shocked.
