Extended Summary

Kat is taking Luc for a paddle in the sea while Ash surfs nearby. Eventually, he joins them. Kat says she has to go and get the DNA results for the man from the cove, who she refers to as John Doe. Ash thinks he’ll probably turn out to be a criminal. Since he’s taking Luc to the hospital for a check-up, they arrange to meet there. Meanwhile, John is trying to talk to Marilyn about his suggestion they have a baby but she stonewalls him, saying it’s just ridiculous and she’s going for a walk. John follows her.

At the hospital, Doctor Simms gives Tori an update on Mason; the swelling has gone down so they’ll try to take him off the ventilator later. Tori runs into Kat, Ash and Luc and passes the news on to them, adding that they don’t know what spinal damage there’ll be. Since Justin can’t be there, Tori asks if they’d stay with her; Kat can’t but it’s agreed that Ash will. Kat says she’s there to see the John Doe, who Tori says the nursing staff have named Robbo, after Robinson Crusoe. Ash reminds her Luc’s meant to have a check-up. Kat goes to see Robbo and tells him they’re not going to go ahead with the assault and robbery charges given his head injury. She tells him there was no match in the DNA database, which at least means he hasn’t been in trouble with the police, and gives him some clothes from lost property. They’re going to check out his tattoos next but in the meantime they need to find him somewhere to stay.

Scarlett runs into Alf and Roo outside the surf club and asks about Alf’s head injury. He reflects that he doesn’t heal as quickly as he used to. John and Marilyn approach with Marilyn still refusing to engage in conversation. John is having trouble keeping up so says he’ll meet her later, which she doesn’t seem keen to agree to. Alf asks John what he’s done now. As the two of them walk through the caravan park, Alf criticises John, reminding him what Marilyn went through with Byron. John says they discussed it before but it was quite a while ago. He tells Alf about them being rejected for fostering and is upset that Marilyn won’t talk to him.

Tori assures Ash that Luc is perfectly healthy after the check-up. They run into Kat and Robbo and the two men are introduced to each other. Tori asks Kat what’s happening with Zannis and Kat says it’s being looked into. She doesn’t seem too happy when Ash suggests she check in Mangrove River and has to be reminded that he’s staying with Tori. Later, Ash and Tori look on as Simms and Sarah run checks on Mason. They disconnect the ventilator but after a few wheezy breaths he goes into respiratory arrest and has to be re-intubated; Ash comforts Tori. Later, Simms tells Tori that Mason’s still in spinal shock and they’ll try again. Tori isn’t convinced and turns down Ash’s offer to call Justin and Raffy.

Alf and John arrive at the Diner to find Marilyn has agreed to work an extra shift; she once again ignores John’s attempts to talk to her. Kat turns up with Robbo, who she sits at a table. Alf is annoyed when Kat tells him Robbo won’t be charged but Kat points out his behaviour was caused by a head injury and ceased as soon as he received medical treatment. Marilyn goes and introduces herself to Robbo, telling him about her own memory problems and offering him a meal on the house. Since he doesn’t remember what he likes, she offers him a selection. Alf asks Kat where he’ll be staying. Cut to Alf and Scarlett watching Kat and Robbo pull up at the caravan park. Alf explains that the salvos in Mangrove River is full. Robbo comes over and apologises to them both; although Alf says there’s no point dwelling on it, neither seem entirely mollified. Kat then gets a call from Murray about Zannis.

Up on the headland, Ash is reassuring Tori who feels she’s been given the same standard reassurances that doctors always give. Kat comes up and tells them that Zannis didn’t show up for his bail hearing. Tori is furious that the police don’t know where he is and blames her. Ash follows Kat to the surf club, defending Tori’s outburst. Kat protests that she isn’t even on the case since she’s dealing with Robbo. Ash says he knows someone through someone he knew in prison who might know something. Kat tells him to give her the details but Ash says the guy won’t talk to the police. Kat tells him to stay out of it but after she’s gone Ash rings someone called Jimmy and says he needs help.

Marilyn arrives home to find John putting dinner out. They exchange apologies. Marilyn says she thought they’d resolved the issue of having children. John tells her she’d be a great mother. Marilyn asks if he thinks that’s a good reason to have a baby. John does, and when she asks if he really wants to be a father, he confirms that as well, saying he was disappointed when it didn’t happen before. Next morning, Robbo greets Alf at the caravan park, thanking him for letting him stay. Alf says it’s down to Kat, and while he says everyone deserves a second chance it’s clear he doesn’t want to talk to Robbo, saying if there’s any trouble he’ll be out. Robbo says he’ll keep to himself.

Tori is sitting by Mason’s bed when Kat joins her. Tori apologises for what she said. Kat says that while she’s not on the case, they’re drafting in more officers to look for Zannis. She adds that CCTV footage has put Zannis at a service station near where the crash happened half an hour before, meaning it seems likely Brody was right. The rehab clinic where Brody’s staying have been informed and they think he’ll be safest there. Later, Tori is reminiscing to the unconscious Mason about a time when he wanted a family dinner but Justin wanted to go on a date so Mason hid all his clothes. Mason suddenly starts to come round; Tori tries to keep him calm while calling for help.

Ash goes to a warehouse and meets Jimmy’s friend Norris, who gives him the address in exchange for money. Ash says it’d better be right but as he makes to leave, Zannis comes down the stairs behind Norris. He knows that Ash is Kat’s boyfriend and wants payback. He is also interested to know that Ash knows Brody and is uncaring when Ash tells him about Mason being in hospital. Ash goes to leave but Zannis whistles and two thugs enter brandishing weapons…
