Extended Summary

The Morgans celebrate Justin’s decision to go with Phoebe to the US for a year, except for Raffy who is upset about saying goodbye to another family member. Justin brings Buddy home from the vet, Raffy’s happy to see him. He’s going to be fine, the vet doesn’t know what he ate though. Justin’s pleased Raffy’s doing better but Phoebe can tell something is wrong. At the diner, Justin tells Raffy to spit out whatever’s bothering her, convinced it’s about him leaving, but she wants to talk about Brody. She’s worried he’ll end up in gaol like Hope. Justin tells her not to worry, Brody looked him in the eye and swore he was off the drugs. Raffy advises him that people lie, even when they love you. Justin thinks he’d know if Brody was lying, but Raffy still doesn’t seem convinced.

Brody meets Zannis, his dealer, and explains Buddy ate the gear Zannis asked him to sell. Zannis won’t give him another hit until he’s paid him the $500 for the gear. Brody explains he can’t until his bank cards come in the mail, but Zannis doesn’t want to hear it. He tells Brody to sell something, steal, do anything, but he wants his money by lunchtime tomorrow. Brody gets the message. In the middle of the night, Brody steals money from Tori’s purse and hiding spots around the house. Raffy catches him unplugging the Xbox, suspecting he’s going to sell it. He lies and denies it, claiming he’s not taking drugs anymore. Raffy remembers how Hope lied too, she’s not buying it. IN the morning, Brody begs Tori for $500, claiming it’s for a seafood delivery when it’s really for Zannis. When Tori can’t hand over the cash on the spot Brody decides to find it somewhere else. As he wanders off he receives a text from Zannis to meet him at the carpark at 12pm. He checks his watch, he’s got an hour and a half to find the money. He learns from Roo that the caravan park is packed with backpackers and immediately heads over. Brody enters an empty van and steals some cash from inside. Suddenly Leah knocks on the door with a kettle for the van and he hurriedly locks the door to prevent her from entering. Leah opens the door with her keys, but Roo distracts her, giving Brody enough time to hide. He sighs with relief when Leah departs. Later, Brody emerges from a tent, he’s stolen more cash. He sees Maz, Leah and Roo on a walk and heads for the farm house. Entering, he begins searching for cash and Roo catches him rifling through drawers. Brody pulls out yet another lie, telling a suspicious Roo that he was looking for a pen to leave a note about a mate needing a van. He apologises for freaking her out. She advises he call next time. Brody’s relived he buys her lie. At midday, Brody gets into Zannis’ car with some of the money he owes. It’s not good enough for Zannis and two thugs enter the car, pulling a hood over Brody’s head. The car takes off, Brody trapped inside.

Marilyn’s thrilled to hear that Roo is six to seven weeks pregnant and promises to be there to help her out since James has left. Roo asks how Marilyn is doing and Marilyn lies, there’s nothing to worry about. Then, when they hug, Marilyn struggles to keep her true feelings in check. A happy John cooks Marilyn a celebratory meal but Marilyn’s very subdued. Being in gaol made John grateful for what he has, he’s not going to waste a single second. Marilyn remains quiet. Maz confesses to Leah and Roo that she feels like she doesn’t know John anymore. John appealing the sentence and not the verdict is getting to her. If there is a bad side to John, then her burns and pain weren’t an accident. The ladies encourage Maz to speak to John about it. The three head out for a walk. John’s back in his lifeguard uniform, happy to be out of the prison greens! He’s looking forward to his community service starting soon too. He’s ready to lend a hand. He notes Marilyn doesn’t share his enthusiasm and promises that he’s going to make up for the damage he’s caused to her and everyone else in town. Marilyn looks like she wants to have the chat Leah and Roo recommended, but when John says he’s going to prove he’s still the good and decent man she married, she puts on a brave smile and pushes down her feelings again, but John can tell there’s still something bothering her.

Tori thinks she sees Nate kayaking when he’s meant to be away on a trip. Later, she’s shocked to see Nate on his motorbike tearing out of the pier carpark. Tori drops by Irene’s, Nate’s helmet is on the table. Nate walks into the room. An awkward reunion. Nate reveals he returned yesterday morning and Tori’s not sure what to do with that information. He’s very vague about where he went and Tori wonders why he’s being so evasive and passive aggressive. He claims he needed the time to think, and he’s decided to give up medicine. Tori’s shocked and asks him to explain. Nate’s had enough of the shift work, the bureaucracy and being on call. Tori doesn’t get it, this is what he always wanted, quitting sounds crazy. She wonders if what happened at the hospital with the cutbacks is the reason for his decision, but he denies it.
