Extended Summary

Brody has been badly beaten by Zannis and his thugs and is dumped at the side of a bush road. After trudging home, Mason realises he’s hurt and takes him to hospital. There, Brody claims the bruising to his ribs and chest was caused by a fall down the stairs at Salt. Tori and Mason give him the benefit of the doubt initially, but Brody is agitated when Tori orders routine blood tests. After Roo spills that she saw Brody at the caravan park this morning, Tori realises Brody was lying about being at work and falling down the stairs. Mason and Tori confront Brody who is seemingly affronted by their lack of trust. Tori demands he take the blood tests to prove he’s not still doing drugs. Then she’ll be able to trust him again. Brody agrees but is secretly worried the test will come back positive and his lies will come undone. When Tori finally arrives home with the results of the drug test it seems the game is up for Brody – but the test has come back negative (because Tori only tested for cocaine). She’s convinced he’s still on the wagon, and apologises profusely for not trusting him. Brody confesses he did lie about falling down the stairs and tells Tori he was bashed by his old dealer for owing him cash – a half truth. Brody guilt-trips Tori into handing over six hundred dollars to ‘get rid’ of the drug gang, but when he later pays Zannis five hundred dollars to clear his debt, he uses the remaining hundred to buy more drugs. Later, Brody arrives home in a much better mood and is glad to hear Tori and Mason don’t feel the need to tell Justin what’s happened.

Zac arrives at Nate’s with a welcome home six-pack of beer, but it’s soon clear Zac’s on a mission to drown his sorrows over Leah. Drunk Zac decides to head over to Leah’s to give her a piece of his mind – he doesn’t want a divorce. Arriving home after her confrontation with Irene, Roo and Leah discover Zac on the roof, trying to climb through a window. He needed to talk to Leah, and the door was locked, so this seemed like a good idea at the time. Leah and Roo realise he’s drunk and demand he comes down, but he refuses – determined to get something off his chest. For a moment we think he’s going to give Leah a piece of his mind, but instead he just pours out his heart. He still loves her! It’s a drunken but heartfelt declaration, and Leah’s clearly moved, but then Zac suddenly slips and plummets to the ground. Horrified, Leah and Roo rush over and find him motionless and bleeding. Will Zac survive?

At the Diner, Leah is still bitter over the custody battle and is giving Irene the cold shoulder – much to Marilyn’s chagrin. She’s uncomfortable with all the tension but choosing to stay out of it. On her break, Irene goes home and interrupts Zac’s drinking session with Nate. Nate accidentally breaks news of Leah and Zac’s divorce to Irene, who feels awful for not knowing and for putting more pressure on Leah with the custody battle. Reluctantly, he weighs in with some tough love – apologise to Leah. Irene heads back to the diner and grudgingly tries to bridge the gap with Leah but gets short shrift. Irene begs Leah to talk things out, but Leah stalks out. Irene gives chase and again tries to apologise but Leah doesn’t buy it, accusing Irene of throwing VJ and herself under the bus at the mediation. Irene argues she’s just trying to do what’s best for Luc. As their pent-up resentment pours out, a snipe about Zac cuts Leah to the core – and she slaps Irene hard across the face. Leah storms home, leaving Irene in tears and Roo and Marilyn shell-shocked. At home, Irene breaks down in Nate’s arms.
