Extended Summary
Lacey and Mali are clearing up after a class on the beach. Lacey suggests John take the boards back to the surf club in the buggy but he argues that someone could drown while he’s doing it. Tane offers to help out. John says he’s going to do important surf club business which Lacey thinks means sampling gelato. Tane quizzes Lacey about Jo and Eddie. Lacey says if he wants to know whether he’s in with a shot, he should ask Jo, not her. She tells a bemused Mali she’s taking an early dart.
At the beach house, Eddie and Jo are in bed together which they describe as surprising. Eddie gets a text from Remi wondering how long he’ll be and says he’ll call her after. He gets dressed and exits, passing Lacey as he does so. Lacey heads into the bedroom where Jo is putting on a robe and tells her she’s been sprung.
Mali and Tane have finished work outside the surf club. Tane suggests a meal later but Mali says he has a board to finish up. After Tane’s left, John comes over and asks Mali how important the board is. Mali says it’s for Mack. John explains that Harper’s moved out and thinks Tane could do with a friend. Up in Salt, Remi shows the video of Eddie’s performance to an impressed Justin. They discuss having a single recorded and ready to stream to coincide with the festival. Eddie turns up and Remi introduces Justin as their artists manager. Eddie is bemused that he hasn’t met him before. Justin says he’s been on a break.
Lacey teases Jo about a random arvo hook-up with her ex. Jo says it wasn’t planned but does admit they kissed after the barbecue. Lacey thinks this means she’s made her choice. They are interrupted by David’s arrival with him noting neither of them did a grocery shop. Lacey says she’s been working and teasingly wonders what Jo’s been doing. David decides they should eat out.
Justin tells Eddie and Remi there’s two scenarios: Eddie gets the festival and they launch the single off the back of it, or he doesn’t get it and they have a bit more time to work on a song. Remi gets a phone call from Sonny and learns he’s got the festival. He says to send the contract through. Justin notes it’s Plan A and they reflect on their lives changing.
Tane is taking a class near the beach and sees Lacey, Jo and David approaching. Jo says she’s really hungry and Lacey wonders why that would be and if she worked out today. Jo says she didn’t, she just lay around. David can sense there’s something they’re not telling him but doesn’t have a clue what. Jo breaks off as she and Tane stare at each other for a moment, before saying she doesn’t know what David means. Lacey looks a bit concerned.
At the studio, Justin is looking up the details and Remi says that while the gig’s at Broken Hill, the acts are being picked up from all over the country and their stop is in Yabbie Creek. He says it’ll be the three of them and Sonny. Justin adds that they get complimentary tickets for family and friends. He thinks they’re good to go but Eddie wants to check with Jo first, explaining they’re back together.
Mali is closing up the board shop and suggests to Tane that they hang out tomorrow, grab a meal and watch a movie. Tane says he was after a pizza, not a date, and is confused by Mali saying he’s there for him. Mali explains he knows about Harper and Archie moving out from John. Tane tells them both to stay out of it.
Up in Salt, David goes to the bar for another round of drinks as Tane comes in and he and Jo lock eyes again. David asks Tane if he’s staying out of trouble. Lacey asks Jo about that and Jo admits that Tane thinks they’re still on pause. Lacey says she could tell him about Eddie now if she wants. Eddie turns up as David rejoins them. Eddie tells them about the music festival and checks Jo’s okay with him going before asking her to come too which she agrees to. Tane listens in, looking unhappy.
Justin is playing the guitar outside the studio. He and Remi have had confirmation from Eddie. Remi says he needs to call it a night soon. Justin asks to around for a bit, since he’s still trying to give Leah space. Remi says he can stay there if he wants and Justin says he’s drunk too much to drive home anyway. Remi goes to get more drinks.
David, Lacey and Jo arrive back at the beach house. David immediately goes to bed, saying he’s pleased for Eddie. Lacey comments that Jo is back with Eddie but stringing Tane along. Jo says she’s really into both of them then realises that sounds bad. Lacey says she’s always like Eddie but wonders if it’s a backward step. Jo says she sometimes wonders if they’d still be together if the accident didn’t happen. Lacey says it did and they’re not and they’re different people, wondering if Eddie’s the safe option.
Next morning, Tane is setting up for a class. Jo appears and suggests they go for that coffee now. Tane refuses to play the game and suggests they go back to being friends, saying she looks happy with Eddie and he’s got stuff going on with Harper so there’s no point him getting in the way. Jo heads home where David is just heading off to work. He notices the girls used to be better at lying and Lacey says that’s a compliment. After David’s gone, Jo admits she asked Tane out and he dumped her. Lacey comments that that’s ironic given she’s with another man. Jo insists she’s happy.
Remi checks that Leah was okay with Justin staying there. Justin says he sent her a message saying he was busy at the studio. Eddie turns up and they prepare to meet Sonny and the organisers to sign the festival contract, then get on with the recording. Meanwhile, Tane arrives at the surf club and John hands him an official-looking letter that went to Tane’s first and which he had to sign for. He apologises for interfering. Tane says it’s from Harper’s solicitor and she’s declared war.
John runs into Mali outside as he arrives with the board. John tells him about the letter and that Tane’s gone upstairs looking for Mackenzie. Tane comes down, leaving an irate message for Harper. He tells Mali that Harper wants full custody and child maintenance and is saying he can only have Archie every second weekend. Mali tries to calm him down but he walks away.
