Extended Summary

Tane finishes off a class on the beach. Cash comes along and Tane comments on it being quiet at his place now. Cash tries to defend helping Harper move out but Tane doesn’t mind. He notes he hasn’t heard much from Jo lately either. Cash tells him about it being Wendell’s sentencing yesterday. At the beach house, Jo tells David that Lacey has gone into work despite being hungover. David asks if she’s told Eddie about the sentencing and encourages her to do it now, pushing the phone towards her. Jo says she’s not going to do it in front of him and heads into her room. She brings up Eddie’s details but before she can call she gets a text from Tane saying he heard about the sentencing and is happy for her.

Sonny brings Leah a drink and she says she’s grateful he’s there. Sonny wonders why she thinks Justin doesn’t care about Theo, saying they were close. Leah says they grew closer but Justin didn’t want Theo there at the start. Justin turns up and asks what’s going on, clearly annoyed that Sonny’s there.  Sonny leaves.

At the studio, Remi is showing Eddie around. Eddie has got a few days off, which the principal wasn’t happy about. Remi says they’ve got to record a single to keep momentum going after his gig. Sonny turns up for a drink, while Eddie gets a text from Jo asking to meet and excuses himself. Remi asks Sonny what’s going on.

Justin is trying to get Leah to have breakfast but she’s not hungry. Justin asks why Sonny was there and if there’s something he should be worried about. Leah says her nephew died and her world’s falling apart and Sonny understands while Justin wants her to forget Theo. Justin asks if she’s serious. Leah gets her bag and leaves, saying they’re just going round in circles and upsetting each other. Justin calls Sonny, saying Sonny’s with his wife every time he looks and it stops now.

Remi and Sonny have listened to the voicemail and Remi says it’s not Sonny’s fault. Sonny says someone needs to be there for Leah and Justin’s pressuring her to move on. Remi insists that Leah’s wrong about Justin, saying he was Theo’s biggest supporter: He gave him a job, mentored him through his apprenticeship and encouraged his music, with Theo’s plaque being Justin’s words next to the guitar he gave him.

Tane runs into Jo outside the surf club. She says she got his text. Tane says they could get a coffee but at that point Eddie arrives and Jo says she was about to fill him in. Eddie asks if Tane’s okay and Tane says he’s good, without really looking at him. Eddie and Jo go inside. Back at the studio, Sonny is ditstractedly playing darts as Remi says a promoter saw the video of Eddie’s gigs and wants to work with them. Remi advises Sonny to stay away from Leah and Justin and says he’ll talk to Justin about what went on. Sonny agrees to talk to the promoter.

Up in Salt, Jo has told Eddie about Wendell getting a life sentence. She apologises for how she treated him after the accident, pushing him away when he was trying to be there. Eddie says she doesn’t need to apologise: He knows it was a hard time and she needed to heal and suggests fate has intervened to bring them back together.

At the police station, Tane turns up asking to see Cash. He asks what he knows about Eddie and the deal with him and Jo. Cash asks why he thinks he knows. Tane thinks David might have said something. Cash says they don’t discuss his daughter’s love life and suggests he goes to Jo. Tane says Eddie’s always there and wants Cash to talk to David. Cash says he can’t do that.

Justin is sat at home when Remi turns up and says he heard Justin’s message. Justin wonders why Remi’s there and not Sonny. Remi tells him what Leah told Sonny about Justin not caring about Theo and not supporting her. At the Diner, Marilyn serves David, who checks with a distracted Leah that Lacey told her about the sentencing. He thinks that it’s the best result but Leah says she’s glad if he and the girls can take comfort from it but she can’t. Marilyn asks if she wants to take a break and she snaps that she wants to work. Justin appears and takes Leah aside, asking if she really thinks he doesn’t care about Theo. He says he’s given up everything to be there for her. Leah snaps that he can’t help her and walks away.

Remi joins Sonny at the Diner flat and tells him Justin was gutted by what Leah said. He says he trusts Justin and the way Leah has latched onto Sonny isn’t healthy. Sonny has been in touch with the promoter who pointed him towards Off the Rails, a three day music event where all the artists are brought in from around the country by a party train. It’s next week but Sonny has an appointment with the organisers to see if there’s still slots to be filled.

At Salt, Remi and Sonny fill in Eddie and Jo. Jo wonders how long it would take to put a festival set together. Sonny points out that Remi mixed Kirby’s album in a week although Remi says it’s not an experience he wants to repeat. Eddie agrees and Sonny goes to contact the organisers. He passes Justin who says his message was out of line; they shake hands. Eddie goes to walk Jo home. Justin tells Remi he’s giving Leah space and asks to rejoin the label, which Remi agrees to.

Cash comments on David being at the station on his day off and notes he saw Jo with Eddie. David says he knows fathers are meant to disapprove of their daughters’ boyfriends but he and Kristina had an idea of the sort of person they wanted the girls to marry and Eddie ticks all the boxes. He’s glad her life’s back where it was before the accident. Cash goes to see Tane at the surf club, saying he risked his life by asking David about Eddie, and David said more about him than he’s ever said about anything. He thinks Tane has missed the boat.

Jo and Eddie are sat at the beach house, looking up the details of Off the Rails. Eddie says he’d better get back to Remi and kisses her goodbye. Jo stops him and asks him to stay, kissing him again.
