Eden makes bad matters worse. Dana and Harper lock horns. Cash is caught in an impossible bind.
Extended Summary
Cash and Eden are walking along the beach. Cash reveals Wendell has been denied bail as a flight risk. Eden comments on him fleeing the scene of the crime and disappearing for two weeks. They run into Mali, who is overseeing a surf lesson. Eden asks about Mackenzie and how she’s handling morning sickness; she has told Cash about the pregnancy now he’s her husband. Mali gives evasive answers. After Cash and Eden have gone, he calls Levi and tells him Eden’s planning to come round. Levi says he’ll handle it. Abigail sees Levi on the phone and hopes it’s Mack. He explains what Mali said. Abigail offers to tell Eden but Levi promises he’ll handle it.
At Salt, Tane tries to get details from Harper about her parents. Harper largely just says that she and Dana haven’t had any contact with them since they left home but she’s thinking they might have changed plus people can be better grandparents than parents. Tane is cautious but not wholly against the idea. They head downstairs carrying Archie’s pram. Dana appears and asks to talk to Harper, promising to hear her out. Tane goes to organise a class and Dana comments that Tane and Harper have given Archie the stable life that their parents didn’t give them. Tane watches the sisters as they leave.
Cash and Eden are in bed. Eden is slightly preoccupied by how Mali was behaving and thinks something else is going on. She wants to shower and then check in on Mackenzie and Levi. Cash says he’ll go and tell Tane he’s moved out, although he’s also keen on never leaving the house. He goes to the surf club, where Tane has just finished briefing the staffmember taking the class. Cash tells him about Remi moving out and paying a year’s rent. Tane asks if he knows about Harper’s parents and they go upstairs for a drink. Mali and Abigail come in. Mali is fretting about Eden questioning him. Abigail promises him Levi is going to tell her.
Eden calls round the farm house with a bottle of champagne, telling Levi it’s partly to thank him for what he did at the wedding and partly to congratulate them on the baby. Levi tells her that Mackenzie’s in Queensland and they lost the baby the day before the wedding, keeping quiet because of not wanting to ruin her day. He says Mackenzie needed some space and admits she’s not talking to him. Up in Salt, Cash recalls to Tane that he and Harper spoke about her parents once when they were in court for a domestic violence case and he knows they were into drugs and alcohol.
At the Diner, Harper tells Dana that everyone deserves a second chance. Dana says their parents have already had several chances. Harper says people can change. Dana agrees as a recovering addict but says their parents never wanted to change. Harper thinks she needs to see if there’s a chance they can be good grandparents to Archie but Dana thinks it’s too big a risk and won’t give her blessing.
Back at the farm house, Eden suggests that Levi fly up and see Mackenzie. Levi says he wants to but is worried it will make things worse, although he also admits he hates that she won’t talk to him. Eden wishes he’d told her beforehand. Levi says their parents know and so do Mali and Abigail. Eden offers to call Mackenzie but Levi asks her to drop it.
At Salt, Abigail tells Cash and Eden that she didn’t know at the time of the wedding and points out the wedding was perfect. She has tried calling Mackenzie but she won’t answer. Eden heads downstairs and talks to Mali, saying she knows about Mackenzie and the miscarriage. She wants him to call Mackenzie, since he’s the only one she’d answer to. Mali is reluctant to get involved but Eden presses that he’s the only one that can save their relationship.
Mali exits the surf club with Eden in tow, making the call. As soon as Mackenzie answers, Eden grabs the phone and starts asking her when she’s going to come home and to call Levi. Cash appears alongside Mali as Eden fails to make headway and eventually reports Mackenzie has hung up. Back at the Diner, Harper and Dana are both still holding the same positions. Tane arrives and says he agrees with Dana now he’s spoken to Cash. Harper gets frustrated and leaves with Archie. Tane worries she’ll contact her parents anyway. Dana doesn’t think Harper will go behind her back.
At the farm house, Levi calls Mackenzie’s voicemail, saying he wanted to hear her voice before going on to say that he loves her and wants to know she’s okay. Meanwhile, Cash and Eden arrive back at the new Newman house. Eden complains about Mackenzie cutting out Levi. Cash says they might have to give her the space she needs and Eden realises she might have made things worse. Harper turns up to see Cash and Eden leaves them to it. Harper isn’t happy Cash spoke to Tane but says there’s a way to find out if they should be worried: Cash can look up her parents in the police database. Cash protests, especially about the trouble he’d get into. Harper offers him a piece of paper with their names, dates of birth and last known location.
Eden arrives back at the farm house and tells Levi she stuffed up and spoke to Mackenzie. Levi asks what she said and Eden admits she yelled that she needed space. She apologises if she’s made things worse. Levi thinks they can’t get any worse. Meanwhile, Cash turns up at the station in uniform. Constable Hendricks tell him Sarge has gone home for the night. Cash takes out the piece of paper, types the name Kerrie Matheson into the database and hovers over the search button.
