Extended Summary
Sonny and Lacey are walking near the beach. Lacey has explained about Theo’s death not being an accident and says it’s her fault for dragging him into trouble when she knew Wendell was dangerous. Sonny can understand why Leah feels that way but tells Lacey she’s not responsible. Lacey says she should have known the arrest wouldn’t change anything. Sonny thinks Leah will come round.
Leah is complaining about Lacey coming to the house. Remi says she was just trying to keep her in the loop. Leah asks if she should just forget it was all her fault. Justin suggests the arrest is a good thing. Leah asks why he’s defending her and, when Justin says she loved him too, yells at him to shut up and tells everyone to go, heading back to her room. Remi apologises for saying the wrong thing. Alf tells Justin and Remi to leave him alone with Leah.
David rejoins Wendell in the interview room. Wendell tries to get him to let him go. David tells him they found his car. Wendell tries to deny knowledge of it. David says the car’s registered to him and was found in a storage unit he paid for, and they’ll soon link it to Theo’s injuries.Wendell tries to claim his absences were mental health days and he was putting flowers on a friend’s grave, although he can’t say which friend. He also claims he ran because they were harassing him. David says he has a witness and Wendell says “that girl” is lying. David asks what girl and adds that she was Lacey Miller, his and Kristina’s daughter. Wendell asks for a lawyer. At the surf club, Lacey has filled in Jo but says Cash didn’t give her any details. Jo decides to go to the station, to see David and to look “that monster” in the eye. Lacey isn’t sure what she’ll do if she sees him again but Jo encourages her to come.
David is on the phone to someone while Wendell is chatting with lawyer Kim Knight. He isn’t keen on the idea of him getting away with what he did to his wife. David and the officer re-enter the interview room. Kim tries to protest but David tells him the DPP have authorised him to charge Wendell over Theo, given they have forensic evidence and an eyewitness. Kim whispers to Wendell, who admits he hit him.
Later, Wendell makes a statement on record that he panicked and also admits he caused the accident that killed David’s wife. He says he was distracted changing the music on his phone and drifted over to the wrong side of the road: They both swerved and the other car crashed into a tree. He checked on them but then he panicked and fled. David charges him with the murder of Theo, the attempted murder of Lacey and dangerous driving causing Kristina’s death. Lacey and Jo have just arrived at the station as Wendell is being taken to the cells. He tells them he’s sorry. David tells them he’s confessed to everything. He says it’s thanks to Lacey but she doesn’t want to hear that.
Outside the surf club, Justin has filled Remi in. Remi wonders if Justin blames Lacey. Justin says she was reckless and he understands why Leah does. Remi thinks the get-together made Leah smile for a while. Meanwhile, Alf has taken Leah for a walk in the park. He says he understands her being angry with Cassandra and Lacey but not why she had a go at Justin. Leah says she’s angry at everything at the moment. Alf tells her not to push Justin away.
David, Jo and Lacey arrive back at the beach house. David says that, with the confession, the court hearing is just a formality and then it’ll be sentencing. He tells him there’s no more anger or guilt now. Lacey asks if she can move in and David says of course. Meanwhile, at Salt, Remi shows Justin photos of the studio space he rented. Sonny joins them and he and Remi try to interest Justin in getting it up and running. However, Justin says he’s not got the energy for it at the moment. He gets a text from Leah and leaves. He meets with Leah down on the beach. She apologises and they hug.
David gives Lacey a key to the house to make it official. Lacey says she can’t face going back to the flat to get her things, knowing all Theo’s stuff will be there. Jo joins them and offers to go with her. David suggests they all go together. They head to the flat but Lacey nearly leaves on seeing Theo’s guitar. David stops her and tells her to write a note for her flatmates while he and Jo get her stuff. Lacey writes a note to Bree, Sonny and Dana, telling them she’s sorry but she can’t live there without Theo. She pauses for a moment, remembering Theo telling her everything was going to be all right. David and Jo return and they leave.
Sonny approaches Remi on the balcony and tries to talk to him about the studio. Remi admits that he feels like Justin, that his heart isn’t in it anymore. He says he’s done. Meanwhile, David is sat drinking outside the house. Jo joins him and they note it’s going to be a long time before Lacey’s okay. Lacey comes out as well and David suggests they have a barbie and raise a glass to Kristina and Theo.
