Sonny tries to patch things up. Lacey pushes for an update. Jo searches for answers.
Extended Summary
Jo and Lacey run into each other near the surf club. Jo has just finished a shift. She notes she hasn’t heard from Lacey in a few days. Lacey admits she’s out of practice with being a sister. She presses Jo on whether David has shared any information with her about the case. Jo reminds her they said to leave it to him.
At the Diner flat, Dana is on the phone to Harper, saying she’ll pick her up from hospital. Sonny suggests they wouldn’t be letting her go if she wasn’t better. Dana worries there might be nothing more they can do. Theo comes home and Dana fills him in. Sonny quips that Harper won’t be celebrating with a glass of champagne and gets some stoney looks. Theo tells Dana to let them know if they can do anything. Dana leaves and Sonny berates himself.
At the beach house, David is on the phone to Wendell’s assistant at the time, wondering why he wanted to sell the car, but the assistant doesn’t seem to know so he says to call him on that number if they remember anything else. Jo returns home and wonders why he’s not at work and why he’s got work with him. David says he’s taken a sick day and is doing some admin, before quickly changing the subject to sharing her lunch.
Theo convinces Sonny to go easy on himself but also lay off the jokes. Lacey comes in and Theo convinces her to come and have a coffee with him, saying he has exciting news for her. Bree comes back as they’re leaving. Sonny asks her about Harper and if it’s possible she might lose the sight in the eye. Bree acknowledges it is possible but hopes the treatment will work.
At the Parata house, Dana listens on the baby monitor as Harper tries to settle Archie, who is scared of her eye patch. She comes back out, noting she can’t drive or work. Dana suggests Tane would help. Harper isn’t keen on the idea of living with him forever if it’s permanent. Sonny turns up but Dana isn’t welcoming and Harper goes to check on Archie again. Dana explains and Sonny says he’ll be right back.
At the Diner, Marilyn chats to Theo at the counter about the romantic trip he’s planning. Alf turns up; Marilyn wasn’t expecting him back and asks about Roo and Martha. Theo goes back to sit with Lacey and starts to tell her about his plan to pack their bags and go on a plane after the wedding. However, Lacey gets a text from Jo and rushes off.
Harper suggests Dana has a life of her own but Dana says she’s going to take a couple of days off work and look after her while Tane’s doing the best man bit. Harper thinks she’s not up to going to the wedding. Sonny turns up and says he has a present for Harper and Archie. He produces a teddy bear with an eyepatch. Dana stops Harper seeing it and tells her to go and lie down because she needs to have a fight with Sonny.
Lacey meets up with Jo outside the surf club. Jo says there’s no news on the investigation but she’s worried about David, explaining about him taking a sick day, which he never does, and worrying that gong into it all again is making him ill. Lacey encourages her to ask him about the investigation and the man she saw, suggesting that might explain what’s wrong with him.
Dana berates Sonny for bringing the teddy, calling it in insensitve. Sonny says he was hoping it would help Archie. Harper comes out and asks them to keep it down. Sonny leaves and Harper asks to see the present. She calls it cute and names him Patch. Later, at the flat, Theo tries to give Sonny some reassurance, then leaves as Dana arrives home. Dana admits to Sonny that both Harper and Archie love the teddy. She apologises for how she reacted. Sonny suggests this makes him a genius.
Jo arrives home and asks David about the investigation and the man she saw at the station, saying he seemed to recognise her and wondering if he’s a suspect. David says he thought the man owned the Mercedes but it was a dead end. Later, Jo meets with Lacey on the balcony at Salt and tells her what David said. Lacey insists he is the owner of the Mercedes, saying she saw David’s evidence board at the station and reminding Jo she wanted to stay out of it. She says his name’s Craig Wendell. Jo thinks she knows the name from somewhere. Lacey says he’s a local councillor and shows her his online details. Jo confirms he’s the man she saw.
Lacey meets up with Theo at the Diner. He tells her about his plan for them to go Tasmania, saying he’s hired a car and they can explore the wilderness together. Lacey is delighted. Meanwhile, Jo arrives home and says a brief good night to David. She goes to her room, takes out a box from under the bed and finds a condolence book.
Next morning, Dana has slept on the sofa at Harper’s. Harper can’t make the wedding so Dana says she’ll tell Cash that neither of them can go. She’s also convinced that when Sonny hears he’ll want to stay with her. Later, Sonny is showing off his suit to Theo and Bree at the Diner flat. Dana turns up and tells Sonny that she won’t be able to go with him. Bree says she’s not going either. Sonny says he’ll bring two slices of cakes back for them, leaving Dana deflated.
On the balcony at Salt, Lacey leaves another message for Wendell threatening to go to the media. Jo appears and shows her the condolence book from their mum’s funeral; Wendell has signed it, meaning he was at the funeral. The two sisters go back to the beach house and confront David, saying they know about Wendell. Jo shows him the condolence book. Lacey thinks it proves he did it.
