Extended Summary

Mackenzie is sat outside the farm house, trying to meditate. Levi joins her, somewhat confused. She says she’s trying to feel every part of her body to see if she’s pregnant, even though she knows it’s too early to have symptoms. Levi joins her. At the police station, David is looking at a series of photos of Wendell on the computer. As he does so, he calls Wendell asking if he’s had time to check the dates they discussed and asks him to get back to him today.

At the Diner flat, Lacey is convincing Jo to get David out of the police station so she can sneak in and have a look in his office again. Theo comes in unexpectedly, having finished at the garage. Lacey quickly says she and Jo are going for a walk. Theo is pleased to see them together. Meanwhile, David pins up a photo of Wendell on a board in his office along with notes saying he was opening Baxter Creek library that afternoon, 20 minutes drive away from where the crash was. Jo and Lacey phone him saying Jo’s having a panic attack. David tells Lacey to stay with her and he’s on his way, telling Constable Bowman to let him know if Wendell calls.

At the Diner, Leah is debating what dress to wear to the wedding. Justin isn’t really listening. Theo joins them and Justin chats to him about budgeting for Remi’s label. He suggests Theo and Lacey come to a gig with him tomorrow night. Leah is keen, since it means she doesn’t have to. She notes Marilyn said Lacey and Jo were in together earlier, then asks Theo to help her set up the coffee cart.

At the beach house, David arrives back and Jo tells him she was thinking about the accident and it got on top of her, suggesting the hypnotherapy has brought stuff up. David wonders where Lacey is and Jo says she had to go. David wonders what was so important.

At the police station, Lacey acts surprised when Bowman tells her David isn’t there. She says she’s lost her house key and needs to get the spare from his office, because she’s not going to be home until late and doesn’t want to wake everyone. Bowman is initially reluctant, but when she offers to call David, he lets her through. After briefly searching the office, she sees the white board with Wendell’s photo and details and takes several pictures of it with her phone. At the coffee cart, Theo asks Leah to go with him to pick out an outfit for the wedding. He also notes he’s hoping to go away with Lacey afterwards. Leah comments that he really loves her.

David asks if Jo has remembered anything else and Jo asks David if there’s been any progress; he says there hasn’t. Jo gets a text from Lacey and tells David that she had to get away to work. David is pleased that the two of them are spending time together. Jo notes that she’s scared of saying the wrong thing and setting her off again. She convinces him to go to work, then texts Lacey back saying they need to speak.

At the farm house, Mackenzie tries to get Levi to decide what to wear for the wedding, noting last time she saw him in a suit was at Salt at the Sea, where they had their first kiss. She gets teary as she talks about how Cash and Eden have to be happy. Levi wonders if the tears are actually about them and Mackenzie suggests it could be pregnancy hormones.

David has returned to his office. He gets a call from a man who introduces himself as Kim Knight, Wendell’s lawyer. He says a partial numberplate is not enough to place him at the scene and accuses David of targeting him, saying any future communication is to come through him. Meanwhile, Lacey and Jo are walking by the beach. Jo feels guilty about lying to David and doesn’t want to do it again, saying she thinks they should both back off and leave it up to him. Lacey agrees, and claims she didn’t find anything in his office.

Levi finds Mackenzie checking to see if she’s bloated and she admits she’s tired and nauseous. He suggests they just get a pregnancy test to put her mind at ease. Mackenzie realises he wants to know too. Meanwhile, David arrives home just as Jo turns up. Jo notes she told Lacey how she feels and thinks she listened. She goes to get ready for work. David gets a call from Superintendent Willis wondering why he’s investigating a closed case.

At the Diner flat, Lacey is looking up details of Wendell on the computer and takes a photo of him off the screen. Theo comes home and she closes the laptop, saying she was just doing clothes shopping. They again discuss her getting on with Lacey now. Meanwhile, Justin turns up at Salt to collect an order and finds David at the counter. He offers to let David join him and Leah for dinner. David tells him that he thinks he’s found the person that caused the crash that killed his wife but he’s been told to drop it because of a conflict of interest and no-one else will investigate without evidence.

David arrives home and looks at a photo of Kristina, saying he doesn’t want to let her or the girls down. Meanwhile, Levi is trying to convince Mackenzie that it doesn’t matter if the test is negative. However, when Mackenzie comes back in, she says the test is positive. They are both delighted.
