Extended Summary

Justin and Mali wander up from the beach after a surf, chatting about Justin’s new record label job which Justin admits excites him in a way that the garage doesn’t. John pulls up in his buggy, still speaking in a smattering of French. He tells Justin “Salut” which he says means congratulations. Justin says it meant something else last week. John quickly retreats. Meanwhile, Cash lets himself into the Lyrik house but finds it deserted, even when he checks Eden’s bedroom. He texts her wondering where she is.

David and Jo are having breakfast at Salt. Jo steals some of David’s but he is rather subdued. He still doesn’t agree with her hypnotherapy decision or the fact she’s booked a session for that day. Jo says the alternative was waiting three weeks. David makes a request. Downstairs, Mali watches John trying to use an app to practice asking for a reduction in price in French. Cash turns up looking for Eden and Mali explains she went to the city with Debra and Abigail to look for a wedding dress. Cash decides to let her have the family time and suggests he and John sort out wedding arrangements instead, saying he’s glad to have him back on board as celebrant. John says he’ll just get his folder.

By the coffee cart, Justin is trying to get Leah to accompany him to a gig to scope out a band that he admits is called Death Rattle. Leah says she has to work. Marilyn offers to cover and doesn’t respond to Leah’s claim that she has a “thing” tonight. Leah agrees to think about it. Roo turns up, still unsure about going to see Cohen. Marilyn continues to encourage her to speak to Adrian.

At the Parata house, Cash gets a call from Eden. He pretends not to know about her shopping trip and doesn’t mention being in the Bay, hanging up when John shows up. John comments that not many young men show an interest in planning their wedding. Cash says he wants to give Eden the perfect day.

David and Jo show up at the police station where the hypnotherapist, Amelia, meets them. David has insisted on being present. Amelia notes it’s unorthodox but agrees. David shows them through to an interview room. Amelia doesn’t want to know about the accident so Jo can lead the session. David is sceptical, saying it’s not science and Jo could be traumatised further, but Amelia says Jo will be in control and she’ll stop if it gets hard. She asks David to get the blinds. As she prepares to begin the session, she asks Jo to think of somewhere she felt safe and happy. Jo says the garden of their old house, where she and Lacey used to play and her mother used to push her on the swing. Amelia gets her to picture that.

Cash is somewhat concerned at how little John and Eden have done; Eden hasn’t written her vows and John was waiting for direction to manage his bit. While Eden’s arranged numbers with the venue, John hasn’t had a chance to visit it yet. He also didn’t know Levi was giving her away. Cash eventually says to leave it there for now. After John has gone, he goes to his room and retrieves his own vows from his bag. Shortly after, John runs into Mali near the beach. He is somewhat overwhelmed realising how much he has to do.

Justin is listening to the band’s music on headphones enthusiastically and tries to get Leah to have a listen. He says Remi’s already paying him so he has to do this. Roo reappears, having called Adrian and then gone home to pack since it turns out he knew about it. She’ll see Martha on the way back. Justin insists on checking her car over first. Roo says she loves him and Leah suggests she go see Death Rattle with him.

With Jo relaxed, Amelia gets her to picture being in the car with her mother on the day of the accident. She remembers her mum singing. Amelia gets her to remember Baxter Creek Road where the accident took place. Jo remembers a car coming the other way, swerving and going too fast and ending up coming straight at them. She snaps out of the trance, saying it was a grey Mercedes with the letters C and M on the license plate.

At the surf club, John is having a rather fraught phone conversation with the venue trying to arrange a tour. He tells Mali he’s going to go back in time and stop himself from sacking the previous celebrant. Cash appears and asks if Eden spoke to him about the music for walking down the aisle. John says he’ll add it to his list and it’d be nice to have the bride and groom in the same place.

Jo asks Amelia if they can go again but Amelia says she needs a rest and she’ll call her in a couple of days. David says he’ll arrange for a constable to take Jo home. Jo is relieved it wasn’t her fault. David says she did good but to leave it up to him now.

Leah and Marilyn see Roo off at the Diner with some food for Cohen, with Roo checking Marilyn will be okay on her own. Justin turns up with her car keys and tells Leah that the gig is sold out and has been for three days. Marilyn says at least he knows they are as popular as he thought. Meanwhile, at the surf club, John is struggling to get through his list. Mali rings Abigail and tells her about Cash being back, asking her to get Eden back there as soon as possible.

David tells a constable to do a check on the car details but doesn’t give a reason beyond that he says so. Cash turns up and says he’s free to work the next two weeks if necessary. David says it’s not necessary and snaps at him to get out of his office. Later, he finds Cash checking the roster and invites him back into the office, apologising for snapping. He tells him about Jo remembering the car, saying whoever was driving it was responsible for the death of his wife.
