The Fowler family face a decision. John fumbles a friendly chat. Mackenzie gets her IVF update.

Extended Summary

Justin and David wander up from the beach. Justin wonders if David has ever considered counselling. David notes Jo has often tried to get him to have some. Justin says it does work, then suggests David could just carry on listening to him give not good advice. Nearby, Mali is on the phone to Abigail and cheerily notes that she’s ditched him for wedding stuff.

At the Lyrik house, John tells Eden that he didn’t expect it to be a difficult question. He suggests she doesn’t need someone to give her away but Eden says she wants the big traditional reveal of the bride. John cautiously says it’s normally the father but he’s heard she’s not on good terms with hers but he’s on the guest list. Eden says that’s a big deal in itself. Abigail turns up and is surprised to learn John’s back on board. John leaves, telling Eden to let him know when she’s made a decision. Abigail asks what about.

Levi and Mackenzie arrive home. Mackenzie suggests her mum was sadder to see Levi go but Levi thinks it’s only if he gives her grandchildren. Mackenzie notes her mum has been through IVF, which is why she was good at looking after her. Levi checks that Mackenzie’s okay with the ultrasound this afternoon. Mackenzie says the only risk is disappointment.

Abigail is surprised that Eden is having such a traditional service. Eden ponders if she should get their mum to give her away (Abigail says she’d try and take over) or just do it herself. Abigail points out that traditionally she should ask their dad, saying it’d be great to have them all together. Eden concedes it’d make him happy and Abigail says to call him.

Levi asks Mackenzie if she’s hungry…and it’s a good thing she isn’t, because Abigail and Mali have cleaned them out. He gets a call from Eden wanting to meet straightaway. Mackenzie tells him to go, since they’ve got time before the appointment and he can bring them back food. On the balcony at Salt, Justin says he don’t know how he’d cope if something happened to Leah, especially if he didn’t know what happened. David wonders if that’s what happens when a loved one dies. John sits with them and wonders if they can have another poker game some time. He starts talking about being Cash and Eden’s celebrant again, saying he married Justin and Leah and offering David his card for if he ever gets hitched again. He then uses random French words while ordering coffee and says he’s going on his trip straight after the wedding. Justin and David only give muted answers.

Levi meets Eden by the beach, wondering what the emergency is. Eden says she just needed to talk to him and explains John has made her realise there are things she hasn’t thought about. Levi initially thinks she wants money. Eden says he asked who’s walking her down the aisle and wonders if Levi would do it. Levi is surprised and touched but also cautious, worrying about how Jimmy will feel about it. He encourages her to ask him. He admits he and Mackenzie have an ultrasound and Eden tells him to go.

John continues to chat to Justin and David about the situation, suggesting both of them would be upset if their daughter didn’t want them to give them away. David excuses himself and Justin tells John he’s got a lot going on with his family right now. John says it must be hard being in a new town without support. Downstairs, David stops to ask Mali about Lacey and learns she isn’t working. Abigail turns up and tells him Eden’s going to ask Jimmy to give her away and she’s looking forward to having all the family in one place.

Levi arrives home having forgotten the food. He tells Mackenzie about Eden asking him to walk her down the aisle but, although pleased, he explains he hasn’t said yes until she talks to Jimmy. Mackenzie gets an alert that they need to go and admits she’s trying not to get her hopes up. Meanwhile, Eden makes the call to Jimmy, saying she has something to tell him and hopes she’s got his blessing.

Levi and Mackenzie arrive home, both rather subdued. Levi has brought some food. They reflect on the fact they had good news last time and are trying to be realistic about it. Levi gets a call and notes the clinic would call Mackenzie. Instead, it’s Jimmy, who’s spoken to Eden. At the beach house, David is looking through the file, looking depressed. John and Justin arrive with beer and pizza, saying in Summer Bay they come round and cheer someone up, whether they want it or not. John comments that he’s never had a beer there before because it’s always been a dry house. Justin says he’s being weird again.

Levi arrives at the Lyrik house; Eden asks about the ultrasound and he says they’re waiting on the results. He also says Jimmy called and was disappointed but understands. He notes once Eden wouldn’t have cared how Jimmy felt before saying he’d be honoured to walk her down the aisle. Later, Abigail has heard the news at the farm house and is tearing a strip off Levi, despite him saying Mackenzie’s trying to sleep. Abigail rants about how Eden can’t let go of the past, how Jimmy is going to be embarrassed to be there and not give her away, and how Eden shouldn’t ask Levi when she didn’t speak to him for a decade. She runs out as Mackenzie emerges and checks on Levi.

At the surf club, Abigail ends a phone call with Jimmy. She tells Mali he said all the right things but she thinks he’s devastated and now the wedding’s going to be weird and uncomfortable and Eden and Levi should get over themselves. At the farm house, Mackenzie tells Levi it wouldn’t be a Fowler wedding without some tension and Abigail can do what she likes at her own wedding. She gets a call from the clinic and tells Levi they’ve got nine follicles, more than last time. Despite this being good news, she breaks into tears.
