Extended Summary
Bree is having a shower near the surf club. Sonny brings her some coffee, checking she has caffeine after midday, and they discuss how things are between him and Dana after him thinking she wanted to move in. Justin comes along and tells them Irene’s farewell has been moved forward to tomorrow. Bree says she’s working and Sonny says he’ll party for both of them. He gets a phone call from Eden and says he’ll sort it.
At the beach house, Irene produces a box which she says is the last thing before wondering what to do with the trip map. Dana asks to have it so she can see where she is. Irene agrees but thinks it’ll be out of sight and out of mind. Dana sincerely says she’ll never forget her. Irene recalls hearing Harper has moved in with Tane. Dana thinks it’ll be fine but admits she pushed it. Irene notes she’s the one that’s meant to be losing her marbles.
Harper comes back from putting Archie down. Tane offers to make her something to eat as Harper stresses she’ll be moving out as soon as she can. They make slightly awkward small talk with Harper wondering if he has plans. Tane says he’s all hers and struggles to explain the comment. They hear Archie crying and Harper hurries off to see to him.
Sonny arrives at the Lyrik house having brought Remi’s bike back. Remi isn’t happy that Eden’s telling people and demands the keys. Sonny wonders if he should leave or stay for the scintillating conversation and Remi says he isn’t bothered. Remi blames Eden for driving him away and sending Cash after him. Sonny sarcastically says it’s Eden’s fault he cheated on Bree, drunk drove and get arrested. Remi says he now wants Sonny to leave. Sonny does without argument but says to call him if he needs him.
At the Diner, Leah is making last plans for Irene’s farewell, Marilyn is able to sort out catering, Leah will get the cake and Alf and Justin will set up. Marilyn suggests getting Remi and Eden to play. Justin says Remi isn’t in the right head space so Leah suggests he and Theo do a duet. Alf says Roo will try to be there but thinks the short notice will mean a lot of people miss it. Leah is upset but Alf says all her closest friends will be there. Back at the beach house, Irene starts writing a letter to Leah.
Sonny and Dana have met up at Salt. Dana insists that she hasn’t been ignoring him since their row, saying she’s been helping Irene with packing and house hunting. She evasively says there’s been some progress on the latter. She comments the train wreck has entered the station as Remi goes to the bar and gets a large whiskey. Sonny takes it before he can have any and leads Remi out.
Outside, Remi insists he’ll go somewhere else for a drink. Tane thinks Remi should listen to Sonny. Remi says it’s none of his business and Tane points out Remi trashed his house. Remi gives in. Sonny looks up at Dana, who has been watching from the balcony, and mouths “Sorry” as he follows Remi. Some time later, Dana finds Bree at the bar and comments on them both drinking alone. Bree says she’s waiting for a pizza and offers to share it, asking about Sonny. Dana says he went off with “drink driving idiot” Remi. Bree picks up on the reference and Dana tries to backtrack before saying she’s just the messenger.
Irene now has letters addressed to Harper, Dana, John, Marilyn, Roo and Leah, addressing the last one to Alf. She puts them in her bag as Leah comes to the door and sees the nearly empty house for the first time. Irene comments on an entire lifetime being gone. Leah suggests one last meal together while going over the holiday plans, handing over a file with the details and saying Justin will pick her up in the morning for the farewell brunch. They comment on how much they’ve been through together, including all the husbands. Leah says it feels like the end and Irene says it is before asking about the brunch.
Remi is back home, getting more drink as Sonny watches over him. Bree turns up, berating Remi for drink driving. Sonny says he didn’t tell her and goes to wait outside. Remi asks Bree what she wants him to say, saying she dumped him and doesn’t care about him anymore, so he’ll say it and she can leave. Leaving, Bree says if he wanted a reaction from her, he got one, but it’ll be the last one.
Next morning, Leah, Marilyn and Justin arrive at the Diner, running through the last arrangements for the party. Leah wonders about John and if he got the message to pick up the ice. Justin tries to calm her. Dana chimes in that the utensils are done. Leah says they need someone to pick up the food from Salt and Dana says she’ll message Sonny.
Sonny arrives at the Lyrik house with bacons, eggs and coffee, as he gets Dana’s message. Remi appears with a bag, more calm and sober. He’s going to stay at his parents’ holiday house and assures Sonny he won’t do anything stupid. Sonny offers to come but Remi assures him he doesn’t want a babysitter. His lift arrives and he apologises for yesterday.
Alf, Leah and Marilyn are looking over the breakfast buffet as Dana greets Harper nearby. Justin draws up with Irene, who greets everyone and is overawed. She wonders where John is and Leah says he’s getting ice and will be there soon. Alf adds that Roo’s on her way but was busy with Cohen. Dana drags Harper to get stuff from Salt as Marilyn sits Irene down, determined to give her a last reading, and Leah gets her a mocktail.
Harper and Dana arrive at the surf club. Harper complains about her first 24 hours with Tane and tells Dana not to throw her under the bus like that again. Dana says she should be grateful for not being homeless. She passes Sonny on the stairs. Harper takes Sonny’s box off him and tells him to go and help Dana, and also with not being homeless. Sonny joins Dana upstairs and tries to subtly asks her about the house hunting. Dana admits that Harper’s already gone and they abandoned their plan to stick together, quickly leaving and telling him to bring more soft drinks.
Irene looks over her cards: The Fool, which means new beginnings, the Magician which means manifestation, and Death, which means big change, Marilyn draws the fourth card, The World (or “sheila wrapped in snake” as Alf puts it). Marilyn says it means harmony and completion, the end of an important chapter. Irene says it’s better than some of the reading she’s had and insists Alf and Justin have readings too. As Alf steps up, Leah and Justin quietly wonder what’s happened to John, with Leah looking on worriedly.
