Cash learns who he’s just arrested. Avalon and Kirby fight over Remi. Alf and John pull Mali up.

Extended Summary

Justin and Kirby walk up from the beach. Kirby wonders if Justin has noticed anything about Remi, saying she kept having to say things to him twice, plus they’re behind because he changed the schedule. She then gets a text saying he’s cancelled a meeting to go through the track order. Justin offers to do it with her but Kirby says she needs Remi’s ear. Justin says he’ll try and get him there. Nearby, Alf asks John if he’s seen Mali, with them both worried that he hasn’t opened up the board shop in days. John asks if Alf has heard about Cash arresting two women for having a blue.

Cash escorts Lacey and Jo into the police station, wanting to know what the fight was about and wondering if it was to do with the River Boys. Jo doesn’t know what that is. David emerges from his office and Cash reminds him he told him to do things by the book. David asks if that’s why he’s arrested both his daughters. Lacey and Jo start arguing and David barks at them to stop.

Remi meets Justin at the surf club, saying he couldn’t get away from Avalon. Justin reminds him he told him that he could handle both Kirby and Avalon. It takes a moment for the sleep-deprived Remi to register what he’s saying, then he insists he’ll have a swim and get back to her. Alf and John enter, with Alf not bothered about the fight if it wasn’t in the surf club. John asks about Mali, saying his customers are upset that there’s no regular business hours. Alf insists that he’ll sort it and John doesn’t have to do anything. At the farm house, Mali plays a voicemail from Alf saying he hasn’t heard from him in a while and to give him a call.

At the Lyrik house, Justin listens to one of the tracks on headphones. Kirby asks his opinion and he suggests it should go midpoint to lift the energy…or earlier…or at the end to go out on a high. Kirby points out he’s basically saying it could go anywhere. Remi turns up and Justin goes to get food. Kirby says they haven’t got anything done since they needed Remi’s input. Remi takes the laptop into his room to listen to things.

David agrees Cash did the right thing and calls Lacey to join them in the interview room where Jo is already waiting. David says, since it was a minor offence with no injuries, it only needs a warning. Jo says he doesn’t need to do that and Lacey snipes that he loves protecting her. David tells Cash to go and write up his report, which Cash says isn’t exactly by the book. David tries to usher him out the room as Lacey says there should be consequences but he’d never allow that. She tells Jo to own up to what she did or she’s dead to her, walking out.

Kirby is standing on the beach when Avalon suddenly appears and joins her, saying Remi’s been talking it up. Kirby is confused that she’s been talking to Remi and Avalon says they’ve been working on her album together. At the surf club, John chats to Justin about the album. Kirby appears and tells Justin that Remi’s been lying and working on Avalon’s album. She realises he knew and John retreats. Mali passes a fleeing Kirby and asks Alf about wanting to see him. John comes to Alf’s side, insisting something is wrong.

Cash drops Lacey off in town. He tells her that his mother died when he was a kid. Lacey says her mother died two years ago: She wasn’t a kid and neither was Jo. She asks about his mum and Cash says she got cancer. Lacey says you can’t blame someone for cancer. Back at the station, Jo tells David he was right that she shouldn’t have approached Lacey like that. David says Lacey has not dealt with her grief. Jo laments why she got in her car that day or let her mum come with her. She asks if David pulled strings to make it go away. He insists it was an accident.

Kirby arrives back at the Lyrik house with Justin in tow and finds Remi, saying she just found out about him working on Avalon’s album from her. Their argument is interrupted by Avalon arriving. At the coffee cart, Lacey tells Cash that Jo claims not to remember the accident. Cash says that’s not unusual. He asks if David would really cover up something like this and if Lacey’s got any evidence. Lacey says it doesn’t make sense: Jo had no drugs or alcohol in her system and wasn’t speeding, she just ran into a tree. Cash suggests a mechanical fault or the weather. Lacey says there were no skid marks.

Jo is alone in the office and looks at the family photo. She starts having flashbacks to waking up lying over the steering wheel with blood on her forehead, seeing her mother prone in the seat next to her as emergency workers try to help her. She starts panicking and David comes in and comforts her. Back at the Lyrik house, Justin tries to get Avalon to leave but she doesn’t think it’s any of Kirby’s business. Avalon leaves and moments later Remi does too.

David notes it’s been a long time since Jo’s had a panic attack like that. He tries to reassure her and Cash watches them suspiciously. At the surf club, Mali tells Alf and John he’ll stick to his business hours. Alf tries to be more conciliatory but John warns Mali he’s running his business into the ground. Alf sends John away and apologises for the pile-on, before Mali tells him he doesn’t want to spend the rest of his life behind a desk and is happier with his board shaping.

Justin approaches Remi in Salt and queries him walking out, saying it looked like he’d chosen Avalon. Remi says he’ll talk to Kirby later. He takes some drinks over to Avalon and says he needs to apologise to Kirby later. Avalon disagrees however, calling Kirby possessive. Outside, John asks Alf if things are sorted with Mali. However, Alf isn’t certain that Mali will keep the board shop. They both think it would be a shame given how much work he’s put into it.

Inside, Remi and Avalon run into Kirby, who asks to talk to Remi alone. Avalon says she’ll stay to protect him. Remi thinks Kirby’s not being fair and says he wants to play again with Avalon and doesn’t need her permission. Kirby walks away and Avalon comments that Remi has a backbone after all.
