Extended Summary

At the coffee cart, Dana protests to Harper that she’s been at work all week. Harper thinks she’s been thinking about Sonny all week. Dana says they’ve had closure. Irene says that’s one word for it. Dana says Harper wanted her to put the issue to bed. Sonny comes along and Dana tries to strike a casual pose but overbalances. Sonny gets a coffee from Irene and loudly says he’s going to the surf club to play pool.

At the farm house, Mackenzie tries to distract herself making dinner while Levi tries to ask her about calling the fertility clinic. They’re interrupted by the return of Mali. Mackenzie tries to convince him that Abby will still love his painting but Mali says he’s had another idea. A teary Abigail enters, saying she can’t find her present in their room. Mali says it will arrive tomorrow and he’s taking her out for dinner at the seafood joint in Yabbie Creek. After they’ve gone, Levi raises the point again and Mackenzie says she’ll call tomorrow because she doesn’t want to spoil the day if it’s bad news.

At the surf club, John comments on Sonny being there on his own tonight. Sonny says he hoped he wouldn’t be. Dana comes in and makes a point of greeting them both, saying she’s there to check the roster, even though she did that earlier, before telling John he can go. Dana and Sonny address each other as “friend” as they set up the pool table. (Dana breaks, hardly moves any of the balls and pots the white.) They comment that being more than friends would be hot but wrong, and are soon back at his flat, kissing, undressing and going to the bedroom.

Next morning, Abigail approaches Mackenzie while Levi’s still asleep, wondering where Mali is and saying he was off at dinner. Mackenzie says she has to get to work and Abigail says she’ll drive her in. They arrive at the surf club, where there’s still no sign of Mali. Abigail pesters Mackenzie for information until Mackenzie says Mali was going to give her the present yesterday but decided not to. Abigail concludes that if it’s not at the house, it must be there. She looks at the board shop and quickly finds the painting, looking humbled.

Sonny and Dana are in bed with Dana noting that some people spend all night partying but staying up all night talking is her favourite kind of all-nighter. Sonny notes he usually focuses more on the stuff before the talking. Dana thinks she has to go or Harper will know they’re not just friends. Sonny convinces her to stay for five more minutes.

At Salt, Abigail wonders why Mali didn’t give her the present. Mackenzie ignores a call from Levi, before offering that Mali was going to give it to her until they gave her the car and pointing out he’s proud. Mali comes up and tells Abigail her present’s downstairs. They head over to the board shop where Mali gets her to close her eyes and places a small box in her hand, containing a bracelet with a heart shape. She looks slightly disappointed and Mali says he’s got the receipt if she wants to exchange it. Abigail asks if she can exchange it for what he was going to give her.

At the coffee cart, Alf tells Irene and John that Martha sends her love and says Roo’s getting better. John suggests buying her a car to cheer her up and wonders what’s wrong with normal presents like a book or socks. Irene says he wonders why he’s still single and John says he doesn’t. Harper turns up with Archie and Irene coos over him. Harper wonders where Dana is, since Tane’s picking up Archie and she was going to spend time with her. Irene suggests she might be coming off a graveyard shift. Harper doesn’t look convinced.

Dana and Sonny haven’t moved, despite Dana saying it’s been more than five minutes. There is a banging on the door as Harper calls out asking if Dana’s there. Sonny calls out that she’s not before quietly telling Dana she’s busted. They hide under the covers with Dana insisting she’s adopted. Harper calls out that she’s not and opens the door, telling Dana to get dressed and come with her. Sonny suggests this is an overreaction and Harper says she’s not talking to him.

At the coffee cart, Marilyn tells Irene and John about hearing from Martha and Roo doing better. Irene acts as though this is news to her and John says Alf said it earlier, also noticing Irene’s wearing her watch again. Harper and Dana approach, arguing, with Dana saying Harper broke into Sonny’s flat, kicked the bedroom door down and yelled at her. Harper says Dana is always making bad choices that she has to fix, including making her upend her whole life to move there. Irene steps in and Dana leaves. John thinks Sonny is a good guy, which Marilyn says isn’t helpful. Irene points out the River Boy stuff is over. Harper doesn’t think that makes Sonny a good guy but Irene disagrees.

Mali and Abigail sit looking at the painting. Abigail loves it. Mali comments on the car and Abigail says Levi only bought it so she’d stopped borrowing his. Mackenzie comes up behind them unnoticed as Abigail tells Mali to never think he’s not enough. Mackenzie goes home and admits to Levi that she’s been avoiding both him and calling the clinic. She’s ready to get the results now.

Dana has returned to the flat to complain to Sonny. He suggests they get breakfast and she points out it’s almost lunch. She decides to have a shower first and invites him to join her. Sonny is about to follow her to the bathroom when there’s a knock at the door: Harper coming back to ask Sonny his intentions. Sonny says he’s had fathers, brothers and a cousin ask that but never a sister. Dana appears clad in a towel and is annoyed to see Harper there. She tells Sonny he doesn’t have to answer. Harper says she’ll wait for her outside and they storm off in opposite directions, leaving Sonny behind.

Mackenzie and Levi make a speaker phone call to a Dr Ogilvy to get the test results. She tells them that everything’s good: Antral follicle count perfect for the age group, AMH level in good range and FHS normal. Mackenzie looks dumbfounded and Levi ends the call. He says this is good news but Mackenzie doesn’t understand why they’re not pregnant.

Harper and Dana argue as they walk through a park area. Harper says she was trying to protect Dana, who will always be her little sister. Dana says she’s an adult who makes her own choices. Harper says she makes bad ones but Dana says Harper is the only one who’s made bad choices lately and she’s done with her, telling her to focus on her own life and stay out of hers.
