Mali won’t accept help. Tane shows off Summer Bay’s newest resident. Alf needs Eliza’s help.
Extended Summary
Tane has Archie on the beach, showing him the ocean and saying their home is across it, using the Maori names. Mali comes across them and jokingly suggests Tane sign Archie up for surfing lessons. Tane points out Archie can’t stand up yet. Mali admits he’s flying solo at the board shop and is a bit snowed under. He also tells him Mackenzie’s at home.
At the farm house, Mackenzie gets off a phone call hearing that Theo’s out of the woods. Abigail talks to her about how overrun Mali is at the board shop without Kirby. She suggests Mackenzie give her time off work so she can help him out, since he hasn’t even tried to replace her. Mackenzie points out that makes his staffing problem her staffing problem but agrees, although she warns her Mali might not appreciate the help.
Alf drives Marilyn up at the caravan park house where Roo and Eliza are sat outside. Eliza notes she thought Marilyn liked being where she was. Marilyn mentions Archie being home from the hospital. Alf announces that Eliza’s punishments are over and Eliza thanks him. Roo says they’ll have lunch at the Diner. Eliza goes to finish her question and Alf heads off to the surf club. Roo tells Marilyn it’s good to have her home.
Tane and Mali wheel Archie into the surf club and introduce him to John. Alf also arrives to give Archie a look over. He tells Tane to enjoy this time. Mali suggests Tane shows Archie where he was conceived and Tane says he’ll save that for his 21st. At the Diner, Roo suggests she and Eliza go shopping or see a movie after lunch. John comes in and tells Marilyn about Tane bringing Archie to the surf club. Eliza listens in and tells Roo she’s not hungry, suggesting they get a juice instead.
Down on the beach, Mali is setting up for a class. Abigail turns up and offers help, getting a lukewarm response. Kirby appears with some boards, saying she knew Mali would need them for the class. Abigail agrees that Kirby can help set up while she looks after the shop. Mali says both of them quit (Kirby says technically he fired her) and he can run the place on his own. Even when he realises he’s left his phone at the surf club, he refuses any help.
Alf is telling Tane how Roo wouldn’t sleep. Roo and Eliza arrive and Eliza comes over, saying she wants to hold him. Tane refuses. Eliza shows him the video of Harper giving birth and Tane asks why she has it. Alf takes the phone and ushers Eliza outside. Tane tells Roo to keep her away from his family. Roo says Eliza thought it was a special moment. Tane says he could have lost both Harper and Archie and wonders if Eliza thought she was filming a birth or a death.
Outside, Alf and Roo take Eliza to task. Eliza thinks Tane should have been thankful and asks for her phone to go and show Harper. Roo says Harper isn’t at home so Eliza says she’ll show her later and walks off. Roo tells Alf that Tane doesn’t want Eliza anywhere near Harper or Archie. Alf says he’ll deal with it.
Tane turns up at the farm house with Archie, calling out to Mackenzie and explaining he has the afternoon with him. He hands Archie over to Mackenzie for a hold and says he likes her. At the Lyrik house, Abigail admits that Mackenzie warned her about how Mali was likely to react. Kirby agrees that being stubborn is like him. Abigail says she helped him work out everything but he seems busier than ever. Kirby wonders if she shouldn’t have quit (Abigail reminds her she was fired). They conclude he needs to be shown that he needs help. Kirby gets an idea.
John passes Mali a delivery that has just arrived. Mali refuses to let John help him with it or answer his phone. The call is from Abigail who claims that Kirby is really upset and has locked herself in the bathroom thinking they’re not friends anymore. Mali agrees to come round. When he does, they admit that Kirby isn’t upset but say he needs to accept that he needs help. Mali points out they’ve just dragged him away from work to point out he has too much work. He isn’t keen on a lecture but Kirby tells him he’s spreading himself too thin. Abigail says he has to either let them help or hire somebody.
Alf and Roo stop Eliza as she leaves the house, with Alf saying that he needs some help at the caravan park so will pay her the going rate. He’ll also give her the phone back. Eliza agrees and steps out of sight. Alf says bribery has worked but Roo warns him Eliza’s keen to see Harper. Eliza snorts derisively. Meanwhile, Kirby and Abigail continue trying to convince Mali that he needs help. Mali eventually agrees that Abigail should go and look after the board shop while he and Kirby come up with an advert for a new staffmember.
Alf and Roo look on as Eliza stacks some logs. They hope it will take her mind off Harper. Roo sets off to do some jobs at the surf club. Eliza comments that chores are easier when you get paid for them. Alf tells her to get on with it. Meanwhile, Mackenzie is continuing to fuss over Archie. Tane gets a text from Harper and says he’d better get Archie back, since it was fair of her to let him have him for the afternoon. He takes a photo of Mackenzie and Archie together first and says it’ll be her next.
Eliza is sweeping up outside the bait shop. Alf suggests she clean the windows next. Eliza is annoyed at him giving her endless chores and not giving her her phone back. Alf looks somewhat ill as Eliza insists she’s going to see Harper. Alf says they don’t want her there, before telling her he needs her help. He asks her to get his pills from the top drawer inside. Back at the farm house, Mackenzie takes out a pregnancy test and reads the instructions.
Eliza goes inside the bait shop and finds the pills where Alf said they were. She pockets them, then goes outside and tells Alf she’s looked everywhere but couldn’t find them.
