Levi is concerned for Mackenzie. Marilyn’s fears escalate. Are Mali and Abigail ready for the next big step?
Extended Summary
Mackenzie and Levi have arrived back outside the surf club. Levi wants to go home and unpack but Mackenzie wants to check on Salt, having heard about the brawl. Tane appears and asks them about the holiday. Mackenzie tries to gloss over the subject, asking Tane about the wedding catering and claiming Dean loves Levi. Levi isn’t convinced, saying he won Dean over by lying to the police.
At the caravan park house, Marilyn and Eliza are having an awkward breakfast together. Marilyn reaches for the teapot but Eliza offers to pour for her, saying she doesn’t want to burn herself. Roo comes down and Marilyn admits she didn’t sleep very well before heading off to work. Roo sits with Eliza and says she only spoke to her foster family because she’s trying to find ways to help her. Eliza says to ask her if she wants to know something.
At Salt, Levi and Mackenzie have filled Tane in but Mackenzie insists she’s fine and just wants to leave it in the past, trying to ask him about the wedding. Tane excuses himself and Mackenzie tells Levi she doesn’t want to talk about what happened again. At the farm house, Mali has made coffee for Abigail and gives her a twirl. Mackenzie and Levi arrive, with Mackenzie quietly reiterating not to mention what happened. They say a brief hello before Abigail heads off to work and Mackenzie starts showing Mali photos of Izzy.
Marilyn arrives at the Diner and apologises to Irene for being late, explaining about her restless night. Irene says she didn’t get much sleep either thanks to Dana coming home and banging about. Marilyn offers to swap housemates, saying things are getting worse with Eliza. Later, Marilyn has filled Irene in on the latest developments and the fact Roo doesn’t believe it. Irene says Eliza sounds like a nasty piece of work. She suggests Marilyn come and stay with her but Marilyn doesn’t want to leave Roo alone with Eliza.
Mali cuts the baby photos short to ask what Levi and Mackenzie got up to. Levi says they went on a trip. Mali says he should be heading back to the caravan park but Mackenzie suggests he moves back in permanently. Neither Levi nor Mali seems sure and Mackenzie snaps that it’s his home. She gets some puzzled looks and heads off to unpack. Levi dismisses it as her being tired.
Later, Levi again dodges questions, saying things were a bit rocky between him and Dean to start with but got better. He also says that, despite Mackenzie’s delivery, he’s fine with Mali moving back in if that’s what he and Abigail decide. Mali goes to talk to her, passing Mackenzie. She admits she should have spoken to Levi before inviting Mali to move back in. Levi says Mali’s gone to speak to Abby anyway. Mackenzie asks him what he thought of Izzy but Levi just thinks she’s avoiding talking about things. Mackenzie insists she just wants to forget about it. Levi decides to head into town.
At Salt, Abigail brings Dana a large burger as a hangover cure, saying it involves hash browns and hot sauce. Dana says Abigail will be her new best friend if it works and adds that she enjoyed hanging out with her last night. Mali turns up and says that this is why he doesn’t drink, before taking Abigail aside and telling her what Levi and Mackenzie said about moving back in.
Roo looks over a history essay of Eliza’s and is impressed. Eliza says she’s interested in the feudal system, how the serfs were controlled by fear and the lords punished them in public. She goes to get some chocolate cake as Marilyn arrives back. Roo heads out to check some guests into a caravan. Eliza asks Marilyn about her sleepless night, saying it must be hard to be constantly on edge, not knowing what’s going to happen.
Levi meets Tane at the surf club and tells him he’s worried about Mackenzie. He says she and Ziggy were alone with those prisoners and he’s worried something happened to them that he doesn’t know about. He says Mackenzie won’t open up to him but might talk to a friend and trusts Tane. Near the beach, Mali and Abigail discuss the fact they were meant to be giving each other space. Abigail says they don’t work together now but Mali points out Salt is just upstairs. However, they both acknowledge that they’ve enjoyed living together. They go over to Levi and tell him they’ve decided Mali should move in.
Roo arrives home to find Marilyn with her cases. Marilyn says Eliza has gone out and she wants to be gone before she gets back. Roo tells her Eliza deserves a chance but Marilyn says Eliza has been making veiled threats and she doesn’t feel safe there. Meanwhile, Dana turns up at the Diner and apologises to Irene for being insensitive. Irene says she’s the one with the alcohol problem and the rest of the world can drink so long as they don’t do it in her house. Marilyn turns up and asks Irene if the offer is still open. Irene says she can stay as long as she wants and tells Dana they’ve got a new house guest.
Mackenzie pins a child’s drawing up on the fridge. Tane turns up and Mackenzie quickly realise that Levi sent him. She insists she doesn’t need to talk. Tane asks if the guys did something to her and Mackenzie says it’s not that but admits there is something she’s not saying. At the caravan park house, Roo goes up to Eliza’s room with a book. Her foot brushes against the music box. She opens it up and, with growing concern, looks at the feather, the family photo with the parents’ face scratched out, the money, the lock of hair, the lighter and Alf’s knife.
Mackenzie tells Tane that Dean, Ziggy and Izzy came across like the perfect family and Ziggy’s pregnant again. She says it made her realise that she really wants a baby.
