John supports Irene in her hour of need. Cash hits a new lead. The River Boys call in a favour from Mali.

Extended Summary

Mali and Kirby have just finished a class on the beach and see Rory using his new board. Kirby heads up to the board shop. Mali approaches Rory, who is pleased with the board, and says they’ll arrange payment at mates rates. Rory replies that “mates rates” means free. Meanwhile, Irene tries to clean up the broken bottle. She cuts herself and John tries to step in. Irene ends up rushing off to get a band aid.

Joanna finishes a phone call at the police station and tells Cash that Dingo’s car is being impounded for forensics. Cash has noticed that the driver in the camera footage has a Blood and Sand tattoo. Joanna notes they have a record of Dingo’s tattoos from his last arrest and brings up one that matches. Cash says to bring him in for questioning.

Rory and Felicity come into the surf club. Rory declines Felicity’s suggestion of going back to her place, saying he doesn’t want to wind up Cash. Kirby tries to get Rory to pay for the board but he says it’s sorted and Mali agrees. Mali tells Kirby he’s cutting his losses and moving forwards. Meanwhile, Irene finds John is cooking. She doesn’t know when Harper and Dana will be back so he says he’ll just cook for two. Irene initially insists she doesn’t need him but when John is equally insistent that he’s not going anywhere she gives in and asks him if he put salt in it.

Up in Salt, Kirby collects a pizza from Felicity, who has Rory waiting for her at a nearby table. Kirby tells her about Rory not paying Mali for the board but Felicity doesn’t want to get involved. Dingo comes in and approaches Rory, saying the police impounded his car and are looking for him. He assures him he cleaned the car. Rory says to keep his head down until they know more. Dingo suggests Felicity might know something. Rory suggests to Felicity that they go back to hers after all, saying it has a bedroom and no Dingo.

Cash is on the phone to someone saying to let him know if they find Dingo. Felicity and Rory come home. Felicity is going in the shower and suggests Rory wait in her room but he instead stays to have a beer with Cash. He mentions Cash impounding Dingo’s car and Cash says it was a highlight. Rory claims he doesn’t know where Dingo is. Cash comments on Rory’s loyalty and wonders if it’s ever been tested. Next morning, Dingo is on the beach. He leaves Rory a message saying he can’t keep hiding forever.

Rory is in bed with Felicity as the message comes in. She says she hasn’t felt this way in a long time and goes to get breakfast while he listens to the message. Felicity ends up chatting to Cash, who says he has an early start. Rory joins them as Cash says he’s had a big breakthrough with a case. Meanwhile, Irene tells John he scared Harper to death last night and says it wasn’t her idea for him to sleep on the couch. John insists he was ex-navy and can sleep standing up. He offers to stick around but she says it was a one-off.

Felicity is serving Rory at Salt while Mali is sat at a nearby table. Dingo comes in and Rory reminds him he was meant to lay low. Rory tells Dingo what Cash said but thinks the police have nothing on him so suggests they deal with it head on. Mali watches their conversation before going to pay. Felicity asks about what Kirby said and Mali says it’s nothing. Dingo stops Mali and says he was at the fight as well so Mali has to give him a board too. Rory says goodbye to Felicity.

At the police station, Cash is telling Joanna they don’t have enough evidence for an arrest warrant when Dingo and Rory turn up. Cash invites Dingo through and refuses to let Rory join him as a support person because he’s involved as well. Cash comments on Dingo’s tattoo. Later, he and Joanna show him the photos of his car and tattoo. Dingo says lots of people have those tattoos and he lends his car out, before saying he was going fishing and evading the question of whether Rory was with him. Cash suggests they could search his house or the River Boys’ hangout. Dingo leaves.

Irene is working at the coffee cart and John turns up to check on her. Some customers have left the day’s paper and Irene is reluctant to look at it. John offers to do it for her. He looks inside the front cover and doesn’t look too happy. Later, at the beach house, Irene comments on how the article acts as though Bronte didn’t exist and paints her as a monster, and doesn’t show Leah in a good light either. She admits she actually said all those things. John wants to call Leah but Irene refuses to involve her. She does reluctantly agree to go to an AA meeting.

At the surf club, Mali chides Kirby for talking to Felicity. Rory and Dingo arrive. Mali approaches them and says he isn’t going to make Dingo a board but they have other things on their mind and head up to Salt, where Felicity greets them. Rory and Dingo sit at a table and Rory quietly points out the photos don’t actually show the body in the back seat. Dingo reluctantly admits he has a bag of McGrath’s badge and some other “souvenirs”. Rory is furious and says to get rid of it.

Mali is at home when Dingo turns up and hands him a bag, telling him to look after it for him. Mali tries to hand it back to him but Dingo drops it on the floor and says Mali owes them, walking out. Mali notices the bag is padlocked.
