Extended Summary
Justin and Andrew are walking through a park area near the beach, with Justin trying to guage Andrew’s mood. Leah appears and Andrew bends over to give her a hug. Leah wonders what’s going on and Justin says they’ve got a lot to tell her. At Salt, Cash tells Eden he has to get back to work, which she notes is the most he’s said all meal. Cash says he’ll pay if she doesn’t mind. Eden senses he’s bothered about her refusing the money. Cash says he’s more bothered about her planning to break up with him.
At the beach house, Marilyn is on the phone to one of the Stunning Organics executives. Roo comments to Alf that she hopes Marilyn has more luck than she did with her two. Marilyn finishes the phone call: The executive doesn’t want to talk. Roo suggests she might have signed an NDR. They get a message on the forum from someone who had an anaphylactic shock to one of the face masks, worse than Roo’s. Marilyn wonders how they can beat the company.
At the Morgan house, Justin has shown Leah the missing poster. He suggests Andrew might be more willing to open up at home with Leah there. They call Andrew through and Justin asks him what he remembers about the photo. Andrew can’t remember it being taken. Justin asks if his mum gave him Ted; Andrew thinks so and can remember he couldn’t sleep without him. Justin and Leah convince him this could find his mum.
Eden idly strums the guitar and looks at the song she wrote. At the police station, Cash is on the phone to someone asking for any information on Esther Lawrence, suggesting a marriage or death certificate. Eden turns up, wanting to talk. Cash would rather talk at home but Eden insists on sitting down to wait for him to have a spare moment.
Justin asks Andrew if he remembers where the photo was taken. Andrew says it was in a park. Justin presses for more details, asking where it was, if it was near where he lived and how they got there. Andrew says he’s not allowed to talk about it. Justin says it’s time he did and Andrew rushes from the room. Leah tells Justin to go and get some fresh air.
At the beach house, Marilyn continues to be frustrated at being unable to use the information they’ve got. Alf peels the label off one of the Stunning Organics products and finds another label reading Squeeze under it. Roo guesses that the company has been in trouble before and changed their name as a result.
Cash finally gets tired of Eden hanging around and says he can give her five minutes, leading her into the interview room. Eden says she doesn’t need Cash to fix her problems. Cash says he wasn’t trying to do that, he just wanted to help her. Eden says she just needs him to love her. Justin interrupts them and apologises. Cash says Eden was just going. Justin admits he might have stuffed up with Andrew. Cash says he hasn’t found any trace of Andrew’s mum. Justin wonders why she’d be hard to find if she wants to find Andrew. Cash says she might have changed her name, remarried, gone off the grid…or even be dead. Back at the house, Leah tells Andrew that Justin has gone out and was just trying to find his mum. She suggests they go down the beach.
Justin wonders if he interrupted something and Cash tells him about Eden turning down the money for the album. Justin says he can understand, asking Cash how he’d feel if Eden had offered him a lot of money. Cash admits he’d never thought of that. He gets an e-mail saying there’s no death certificate for Esther but there’s still no leads. Down on the beach, Leah watches as Andrew paddles in the water. He apologises for getting angry before. Leah asks how he found out his mother had died. Andrew says that’s what they told his dad. Leah asks who he means by “they” but Andrew clams up.
That evening, Cash goes round to see Eden and tells her about his chat with Justin. He says the offer’s still there but he respects her decision. Eden says his support means a lot to her and half-seriously suggests they use his money to go to Vegas or a music festival instead. Cash then gets a phone call from Leah. He goes round to see her and Justin; Andrew is out in the back. Leah tells him about Andrew’s reference to “they” and how he reacted. Andrew comes in and reluctantly tells them that other men used to come round to see his dad. Sometimes they’d bring supplies and sometimes they’d talk to his dad in the back yard and on the phone. He says you don’t ask questions and Cash asks too many.
With Alf chipping in, Marilyn dictates an e-mail to Roo saying they have evidence of three employees leaving, a client with anaphylactic shock and fraud, threatening to go Trading Standards and the media if the company don’t release her from her contract and refund the money paid for products. Next morning, Justin and Leah walk on the beach with Andrew walking ahead of them. Justin gets a phone call from Cash saying to come down the station and not bring Andrew. He tells Leah to take Andrew home while he sees what it’s about.
Cash tells Justin that Missing Persons have sent his the full report. The “they” that Andrew mentioned are a cult called Vita Nova. They’re doomsday preppers who have been around for a couple of decades, preparing for the end of the world, hence the locked room of supplies. His mother believed that they’d hidden Andrew at a safe house. Justin asks why they haven’t been charged. Cash says there’s a taskforce looking into it but there’s not enough evidence because everyone’s too scared to talk. He says Andrew needs to see a social worker.
Back at the Morgan house, Leah tries to present the visit as normal to Andrew. Justin comes back and Andrew says he doesn’t want to go. Leah manages to talk him into it. Andrew gives her a hug and says he wishes she was his mum. Justin tells Leah he’ll let her know how they go.
