Marilyn’s vulnerability increases. Dean’s worst fears are realised. Logan tries to get through to Marilyn.
Extended Summary
Mackenzie and Logan run into each other on the beach. Mackenzie mentions Dean sacking Bella and that she’s fine with it. Logan is preoccupied with the hospital complaint. Mackenzie suggests a swim to take his mind off it, and manages to convince him by discarding her towel to reveal her bikini. At the Morgan house, Justin has retreated to the bedroom to phone Leah and asks if she’s forgotten to mention something. To underline his point, Marilyn calls out asking where to put her toiletries. Justin eventually tells Leah that he’ll handle it and to just concentrate on VJ. He rejoins Marilyn who offers him lunch or a cup of tea. He says he has to get to the garage, even though it’s his day off, to fix a car. Marilyn checks it’s all right for her to be there. Justin says it is but she still looks uncomfortable as he leaves.
Justin’s arrival at the garage is greeted with bemusement by Ziggy, who reminds him it’s his day off. He claims he’s there to do paperwork. Ziggy asks for his advice on a second hand car for Dean and he quickly rejects one of the options. He mentions talking to Dean about not rushing going back into surfing. Ziggy thinks Dean will be fine. Back at the farm house, Dean is sat on the sofa in some pain. Ziggy arrives home and he tells her about his attempt to try surfing again, saying it’s hopeless.
Marilyn is sat alone at the Morgan house, finishing off a cup of tea. She takes it to the sink and sniffles, telling herself not to cry. At the Diner, Irene chats to Logan and Mackenzie. Logan is still preoccupied by thoughts of Marilyn. Marilyn comes in and dismisses Logan’s attempt to talk to her. She asks Irene if she’s heard about Leah going away, ignores her attempts to plead Logan’s case, then explains that she’s staying with Justin and wants to sort out a dessert for him, asking for some chocolate cake.
Dean has explained the situation to Ziggy. She thinks he made a mistake trying to jump onto the board on land, since they’re designed to be used on water and that would be easier. She claims that’s how hydrotherapy works, so they should go down to the beach and have him try actual surfing. She thinks it’ll work because that’s where he belongs. Dean accompanies her to the beach and straps himself to the board. However, when Ziggy runs towards the surf, he remains still and says no.
Back home, Dean tells Ziggy he couldn’t do it. She suggests it might be different tomorrow but Dean isn’t convinced. He thinks there must be something wrong for him not to be better by now. She suggests he at least get medical advice. At the Diner flat, Logan tells Mackenzie that he understands Marilyn wanting someone to blame and maybe he should have kept her in longer. Mackenzie advises him to leave her alone and let the tribunal handle it. She suggests he goes and get takeaway.
At the Diner, Irene and Justin briefly discuss Marilyn staying with him. Justin suggests he and Marilyn go. Logan comes in and Marilyn comments on being left dying on the floor. Irene tries to get Marilyn to talk to Logan. Marilyn says she’s made a complaint and it should be dealt with. Irene protests that Logan saved their lives. Marilyn retorts that Martha’s on dialysis and she nearly died. She says all Irene’s interested in is telling her what to do. She and Justin head back to the Morgan house. Marilyn asks if he really wants her there. Justin admits he was hesitant, saying everyone’s walking on eggshells around her and it’s exhausting to have that in your own home. Marilyn says she’ll go back to Ryder but Justin stops her, saying they just want her to be happy and well.
Logan has filled Mackenzie in on what happened. Mackenzie is frustrated that he ignored the idea of leaving it to the tribunal and says Marilyn isn’t one of his patients anymore. She reminds him he had a go at her for talking to Marilyn and they’re supposed to be in a relationship. Logan apologises. Mackenzie cheerily notes that they just had their first fight. Next morning, Justin brings Marilyn breakfast as she notes the nightcap helped her to sleep. He suggests she goes and sorts things out with Irene, reminding her how long they’ve known each other and that Irene always wants the best for her.
Dean and Ziggy are walking by the beach, with him commenting that he can handle that. Logan and Mackenzie approach and Ziggy convinces Dean to talk to Logan. He explains it was too painful to get on the board. Logan suggests he come in for some scans to see if he’s done any damage. At the Diner, Marilyn tells Irene they’ve both said things lately. She understands Irene’s coming from a good place but asks her to keep out of it, especially where Logan’s concerned. Irene gets annoyed but Marilyn suddenly grabs hold of her and says she can’t feel her legs.
At the hospital, Logan examines Dean’s scan and says he’s healing nicely. Dean wonders why he’s not able to surf in that case. Logan says it’s a marathon, not a sprint. Dean asks if he’ll be able to surf again and Logan admits he can’t guarantee it.
