Extended Summary

Ziggy and Dean are sharing a kiss outside the surf club while an instructor takes a class on the beach. Ziggy declines to help Dean supervise, since she has to get to work. After Ziggy’s gone, Bella appears and tells Dean the new instructor is nothing on him. Dean protests that she’s never surfed but Bella retorts that she doesn’t need to play a sport to see if someone’s good at it. She is on her way to Salt for another shift and notes she’s pleased not to be broke and the job will grow on her. At the Morgan house, Justin and Ziggy try to work out a schedule. Ziggy offers to come in early and confirms to Justin that things are going well with Dean, almost giving too much information. She thinks it’s too soon for him to be surfing again though.

Marilyn storms into the Diner with Logan in tow and accuses Irene of sending him to spy on her. She says she was looking forward to her first reading and Irene took it away from her. After she’s gone, Logan ponders if he’ll get his $60 back and Mackenzie shushes him. Later, Logan tells Irene and Mackenzie that Marilyn’s hands were steady and she was smiling: Her hand-eye co-ordination and short term memory are fine. He wonders if her problem is psychological. Irene says she’s seen Marilyn stressed before and it’s not like this. Logan says if Marilyn was concerned, she could come to him, but otherwise there’s nothing he can do.

At home, Marilyn is on the phone to someone and says she appreciates them helping her. She turns over a tarot card, the Ten of Swords, and notes it symbolises betrayal. At the surf club, Logan comments to Mackenzie that approaching Marilyn the way he did was not the best way to handle things. Mackenzie says he did the neuro assessment. Logan worries Marilyn will cast a curse on him. Dean greets Mackenzie and says she’s brave to let Bella work unsupervised. Mackenzie admits she’d forgotten that. Dean says Bella gave him a roll even though he hadn’t ordered anything and it wasn’t what she said.

Mackenzie goes upstairs and is shocked to find Bella pouring a drink without her RSA. Bella says the bartender didn’t turn up and she’s enrolled, she just needs to pay for it. Mackenzie tells her if an inspector catches them, Bella would be fined $2000 and Mackenzie would be fined $25,000. Logan comes in and tells Mackenzie there’s been a complaint made against him, by Marilyn. Back at the Stewart house, Ryder arrives home. He goes to answer a call from Leah on Marilyn’s phone and Marilyn tells him not to, saying Irene has probably put her up to checking on her. She mentions Logan checking up and the fact that she’s made a complaint, which shocks Ryder.

At Salt, Logan tells Mackenzie that Marilyn is alleging that he discharged her too early. Mackenzie says Marilyn wasn’t showing any symptoms then. Bella chimes in that it’s not a good look. Mackenzie tells her not to eavesdrop on customers. Bella manages to drop some plates and Mackenzie wonders if there’s a board to report her to. At the Diner, Leah and Irene comment that Marilyn’s being irrational and looking for someone to blame. Justin thinks that they should back off from her, recalling when he had his painkiller addiction people having a go just made him dig his heels in. Leah points out how that ended but Justin says Marilyn isn’t being dangerous, just blunt. Irene admits Logan said much the same thing.

At the surf club, Ziggy tells Dean that Justin’s looking at second hand cars for him. Mackenzie appears and asks Dean to go and have lunch, again, so he can make sure Bella doesn’t break anything or offend anyone. She goes round to see Marilyn, who is hoping to have company for dinner. Mackenzie explains she’s there to talk about the complaint, saying Logan saved Dean and other people’s lives. Marilyn says he put hers at risk and she should have been kept under observation. She accuses Mackenzie of having her judgement clouded by what’s going on in the bedroom.

Customers in Salt try to attract Bella’s attention without success. Dean and Ziggy wonder if Bella’s deliberately ignoring them or actually that bad. Bella appears with their meals but manages to spill Ziggy’s pasta in her lap. She suggests just eating what’s left before Dean convinces her to go and get a replacement. Downstairs, Mackenzie meets up with Logan, who says the board have procedures to follow unless Marilyn withdraws the complaint. Mackenzie mentions going to see her. Logan isn’t happy, since it would look bad to find out his girlfriend is interfering with the complainant, and worries he could be in real trouble.

Up in Salt, Bella tells Dean and Ziggy she’s having an off day. Dean quips that it’s only her second shift. Mackenzie comes up and asks Dean and Ziggy how it went. Dean says the replacement meal was wrong and cold. Mackenzie says Bella’s her worst waiter ever but she’s her flatmate and used to hate her. Dean offers to fire her, thinking it’ll be a relief to her since she doesn’t like the job. Mackenzie agrees. Meanwhile, Justin arrives home. Leah tells him they have the place to themselves since Theo’s gone out. Justin suggests they work up an appetite and they head to the bedroom.

Marilyn is sat at home alone. She pours herself a glass of wine, then tips it away and goes out. Leah and Justin are in bed together. Leah thinks she’s heard someone knocking and then the front door going, wondering if it’s Theo. Justin tries to convince her otherwise, then Marilyn just walks into the bedroom, saying she still has a key from when she babysat Grace and wondering if it’s a good time.

Dean and Ziggy are at the farm house, having invited Bella back with them. Dean tells her that Mackenzie wants to give her the boot but is too nice to do it. Bella is shocked to realise she’s fired. Dean cheerily tells her she’s got her freedom back. Bella bursts into tears and throws herself onto the sofa, wailing that she doesn’t fit in anywhere.
