Extended Summary

Dean and Mackenzie emerge from the water after a surf. Dean complains that Mackenzie dropped in on him but Mackenzie isn’t keen on being told what to do and walks off as Ari approaches. Ari asks if there’s anything he can do but Dean says it’s not his problem. Meanwhile, Ryder and Chloe are curled up in bed. Ryder notes he could stay there all day, but they have to get up in order to run their business. Chloe complains that she has a hangover after tasting Ryder’s cocktails and chooses an extra five minutes in bed over joining him in the shower.

John shows Leah and Stephen the spot he’s chosen. It is close to a road but has places where people can hide nearby. Leah and Stephen disappear behind a bush, saying they’ll call the police as soon as Susie arrives. However, some time later, they emerge again: Susie hasn’t shown up and they want to abandon the stakeout. John insists he’s going to stay, since this might be a test, saying they can go if they want. Leah points out that confronting Susie alone didn’t go well for Irene and they agree to stay.

Dean returns to the flat on the phone to Amber, agreeing to have Jai for a few days. Mackenzie emerges from her room and Dean explains Amber’s going on a course. After checking she won’t have to give up her room for Jai, Mackenzie says it’s nothing to do with her. A random guy emerges from her room and drags her back in, leaving Dean frustrated. Meanwhile, Chloe knocks on the bathroom door and asks Ryder to get her some pills. Ryder searches under the sink and finds a pregnancy test. He goes back to the bedroom with Chloe’s headache pills and suggests maybe she should take the day off after all if she’s not feeling well. Chloe wonders if this is reverse psychology and decides it’s not fair to let him do all the work.

Leah and Stephen comment that Susie’s an hour late. John comes over and says he’s calling it: Susie’s not turning up. He wonders why she arranged to meet in the first place and Leah suggests maybe she got spooked or was testing them as John said. Meanwhile, Dean is hanging around near the bottom of the flat stairs, getting a curious response from Marilyn as she comes past. Finally, Mackenzie’s hook-up leaves and Dean tells him not to come there again. Up in the flat, Mackenzie complains about Dean scaring off everyone she likes. Dean says he can’t have Jai there with her bringing randoms home all the time but Mackenzie retorts that that’s his problem.

Justin arrives at the Diner and is greeted by Marilyn, noticing John, Leah and Stephen sat nearby. Stephen now wants John to call the police but John says it’s up to him and refuses point blank. Stephen leaves and Leah goes to explain to Justin. John gets another text saying it was supposed to be just the two of them. He texts back asking for another chance. Later, Justin is working in the garage but looks woozy. He goes to the cupboard and takes some pills.

Chloe is doing the chopping in the food van but Ryder has to take over. Dean and Mackenzie approach, arguing, and Mackenzie’s mood isn’t improved by the sight of the van. Ryder and Chloe try to ignore her but Mackenzie calls out that there’s free tacos for the next hour, provoking a hoard of customers. Ari appears but Mackenzie refuses to talk to him. Dean calls Amber, arranging to look after Jai at her place. Going up to Salt, he fills in Mackenzie, who says there’s no problem then. Dean retorts that the fact she thinks there’s no problem is the problem and he’s done. Mackenzie looks concerned.

Dean goes to see Ari at the Parata house and explains what’s going on, asking him to keep an eye on Mackenzie while he’s away. Ari recalls seeing Mackenzie with Emmett but Dean says it’s nothing to do with him. Ari says he’ll call Dean if anything happens. At the Diner, Leah is ordering a takeaway lunch for Justin. She says goodbye to John, who Marilyn checks on, wondering if he’s disappointed. John says he shouldn’t have got his hopes up but then sends another text to Susie begging her to answer.

Ari comes into Salt and tells Mackenzie that Dean’s worried about her and he’s there if she needs a mate or a punching bag. Mackenzie retorts that she doesn’t need a shoulder to cry on. Downstairs, Ryder and Chloe complain about their lack of profit after having to stick to Mackenzie’s offer. Ryder says they couldn’t let down the customers but Chloe thinks they were just taking advantage. Ryder tries to look after her and Ari comes downstairs just in time to hear him saying he thinks she’s pregnant. Chloe says she isn’t and the test wasn’t hers. Ari goes into the gym looking for Mia, then leaves her a phone message.

Leah turns up at the garage, calling out to Justin, but finds him lying on the floor. She frantically calls for an ambulance.
