Dean’s worst fears are met. Tensions rise in the Stewart house. Christian and Tori draw closer.
Extended Summary
Dean hurries out of the surf club with Willow trying to calm him down and pointing out that Amber and Jai are long gone. She tries to stop Dean calling Amber, saying yelling at her won’t help. John has observed the conversation and asks what’s going on. The three of them head back inside. Dean tries to call Amber but gets voicemail and doesn’t fancy leaving a message telling her to bring his kid back.
Roo is now calmer and tells Alf it was nothing. Martha comes in, wanting Alf to help with the unpacking, and Alf tells her he found Roo upset. Roo refuses to answer questions and leaves. At the Morgan house, Justin has left most of his meal, saying he felt nauseous. Leah offers to make him some ginger tea but he thinks he’ll be starving in a few hours, and if he’s not, they can call Tori.
Tori is doing yoga on the beach when Christian approaches and notes he’s never sure if you’re allowed to flirt with a woman doing that. She offers to teach him and he takes her up on it, putting his towel down on the sand. He copies her position and she tells him it’s mostly about the breathing. Meanwhile, Alf and Martha arrive at the Diner to be greeted by Irene and Marilyn. Irene asks how long Martha’s there for this time and Martha says she likes to keep people guessing. Alf asks Marilyn if she knows why Roo’s upset, sparking an argument between him and Martha over whether or not he should interfere. When she can get a word in, Marilyn says she doesn’t know but thinks it’s to do with Owen. Alf decides to call him.
Dean and Willow have retired to Salt. Willow encourages Dean to just leave Amber a message and wait for her to call back but Dean refuses to sit around and leaves. Tori and Christian come in, bantering about flirting with women doing yoga. Dean goes to Amber’s place but finds the house deserted and near empty. He leaves Amber a phone message saying Jai’s all he got. He finds several of Jai’s drawings in the bin; one of them seems to be the one Jai did of them on their road trip.
Dean returns to Willow at the flat and tells her that Amber’s gone. He thinks he’s never going to see Jai again. Later, Amber is unloading Jai’s bike from a car when she gets another phone call from Dean and this time answers. After initially trying to play innocent, she says she and Jai are staying with a friend but won’t tell him where, saying she can’t trust him or Francesca and he had his goodbye with Jai this morning. She unconvincingly suggests Jai could look him up when he’s older. Dean tells her to let Jai know that he’s a great kid and Dean will always be thinking of him. Amber agrees, but in a rather curt manner, and hangs up.
Alf and Martha are bickering about his short phone conversation with Owen. Alf thinks Owen wanted rid of him, while Martha thinks Alf is blowing it out of proportion and it’s none of their business. Roo returns and is unhappy that Alf spoke to Owen. Later, Alf, Marilyn, Roo and Martha have dinner together but things are tense and awkward, with Roo picking at her food and glaring at Alf. Marilyn offers to get dessert. Roo notes Alf thinks he knows what’s best for her and heads up to bed. Martha says Alf shouldn’t have made the call.
Leah and Justin are looking after Grace when Christian and Tori arrive. Justin asks about house calls and Tori says Christian’s not there for him. She invites Christian to stay for dinner. Justin quietly reminds Leah that Tori can’t cook. Leah calls over that she has some leftover lasagne that can be heated but Tori insists on cooking from scratch. Justin and Leah watch her antics, which culminate in her burning her hand and Christian having to run it under a tap. Having concluded Tori doesn’t do much cooking, Christian takes over, saying his sisters made him pull his weight, and pours them both some wine.
Some time later, Justin is taking his painkillers. Leah returns from putting Grace down and she and Justin head off to bed. Christian prepares to do the washing up but Tori says she’ll do it in the morning and gets him to join her for a drink. At the Diner flat, Dean notes that when he lost Ziggy he thought at least he had Jai. Willow suggests Jai will have good memories of him but Dean says Jai will remember him as a deadbeat dad who disappeared. He says he forgot they don’t get to be happy.
Next morning, Justin wakes up and can hear Tori talking in the front room. He asks Leah if she’s awake (she says she isn’t) and says he thinks Christian stayed over, asking her to check there’s nothing going on that would scar him. Tori and Christian have sat up talking and are looking up medical techniques. What Leah can see and hear could be misinterpreted, but Justin has a clear path to the bathroom. However, when he gets up, his legs give way. Leah runs to tell Christian and Tori that he’s collapsed. Meanwhile, Marilyn is taking Roo to a spa, with the therapist under strict instructions not to talk to her, especially about boyfriends. They suggest Alf and Martha talk about whatever’s going on between them. Once they’re alone, Alf asks Martha whether she’s selling her place in Merimbula or not.
Leah gets Justin some painkillers as Christian encourages him to come to hospital for a scan. Justin is reluctant so Christian says they could wait, but it might result in him ending up in a wheelchair with loss of sensation. Justin gives in. Tori says she’ll arrange care for Grace and join them, as Christian helps Justin to the car.
