Angelo and Colby have a tense standoff. Dean’s family is beginning to mend. Roo avoids discussing her trip.
Extended Summary
Willow runs into Dean, who has just finished a surf lesson. Neither of them have heard from Amber lately; Willow suggests giving her time but Dean thinks he’ll never see Jai again. He says he should have ignored Colby and headed north with him, but Willow says that would have just landed him in jail for kidnapping. Dean insists on blaming Colby. At the police station, Angelo tells Colby that the motel staff were very helpful and mocks him for booking in under a false name and then using his own credit card. Colby accuses him of enjoying spying on them. Angelo says they’re just getting started.
Roo emerges from the gym and runs into John, telling him she just got back. John notes she doesn’t have her partner with her. Roo snaps that she and Owen don’t do everything together and John says he meant Leah, who she normally goes to the gym with. Amber and Jai appear and Roo takes the opportunity to slip away. Amber says she’s there to talk to Dean; John calls him a man-child and Jai queries the term. Dean and Willow then appear and John and Willow take Jai for a smoothie (which John is told to pay for) while Dean and Amber go to talk. At the Diner, Taylor is sending Colby multiple messages about Angelo not turning up, while Leah and Marilyn chat about Roo being mysterious. Taylor cancels her order, saying she’s been stood up. At Salt, Roo ignores a call from Owen and pushes her plate away from her, looking upset.
Angelo accuses Colby of opportunism, taking advantage of Taylor being vulnerable. Colby says she was beautiful and being neglected by her husband. Angelo thinks he was using her for intel after being shut out of the investigation. Colby leaves, saying Angelo can tell everyone about the affair but that’s all he’s got on him. Angelo calls Taylor, who was in the main area, into the office. She says she was lonely as he accuses her of throwing the marriage away. Seeing Colby watching them, he closes the blinds. He tells her Colby was using her and went after her as soon as he was cut out of the case. Taylor insists otherwise but is given pause when Angelo asks if Colby ever quizzed her about the case. She says she wanted to be acknowledged and Angelo says she’s sleeping with a murderer. He walks out. Colby comes in and leads Taylor away.
Dean and Amber walk by the beach. He explains he freaked out when he saw the envelope. Amber says that’s no excuse for abducting Jai. Dean points out he found Jai alone but accepts she’s a good mum. Amber apologises for what Francesca did and for having a go at him in front of Jai. She says they’re going to move on but don’t sound very warm. Inside, Willow is watching Jai draw him and Dean on their trip. Dean and Amber come back in and Amber invites Willow to stay with them. Dean and Jai joke about getting burger or pizza but Willow notices Amber’s expression remains hard.
Marilyn comes home to find Roo has baked several trays of cookies, supposedly for a school fundraiser. She says she found it therapeutic but dodges Marilyn’s questions again and heads up to bed, saying she’ll clear up later. Marilyn rings Leah and says they have a problem. Meanwhile, Dean, Willow, Amber and Jai exit the surf club. Dean tries to be responsible and tell Jai not to run around but ends up joining him. Willow tells Amber that Dean would never hurt Jai but Amber isn’t sure they can come back from Dean going off with him.
Colby and Taylor are on the balcony outside the Diner flat. They guess Angelo must have been watching them for a couple of weeks. Taylor wonders why he didn’t just confront her and Colby says they don’t have to hide now. Dean and Willow approach cheerily discussing Amber and Jai, only to pull up short when they see Taylor. Colby saying Angelo knows doesn’t help things. Taylor says she’ll go to a motel, noting she needs to be alone. Colby walks back into the flat and Dean notes that’s another life ruined. Next morning, Leah joins Marilyn at the caravan park house. Roo enters and Leah says Marilyn invited her over for morning tea with them both. She tells Roo about Justin’s tumour growing back and him wanting her to get on with her life. She and Marilyn try asking Roo about Owen but Roo says she’s made it clear she doesn’t want to talk about that and walks out.
Dean is finishing off another class near the beach when Amber and Jai appear. Jai gives Dean a drawing of the three of them. Dean invites them to the Diner but Amber says Jai has to get to school and tells him to say goodbye to Dean. Willow looks worried as she watches them walk away. Meanwhile, Colby and Taylor meet on the pier. Taylor has been thinking about what Angelo said, while Colby has been wondering why Angelo knew he’d be in the office, saying it’s as though he heard their conversations. (Angelo listens from the station.) Colby notices the necklace, which Taylor says Angelo gave her two weeks ago. Taylor realises Angelo was right and accuses Colby of using her and killing Ross. Without saying anything, Colby rips the necklace off her and throws it in the sea. Angelo pulls out his earpiece in frustration. Angry, Taylor runs away.
Roo is boxing up the cookies but starting to realise how ridiculous it is. Alf enters and starts complaining about the traffic. Roo runs to him and, somewhat confused, he comforts her. At the surf club, Dean tells Willow that Amber bringing Jai must be a good sign. Willow is suspicious though, thinking Amber hasn’t really forgiven him, and points out Jai was meant to be going to school but wasn’t in uniform.
