Extended Summary

At Salt, Ryder and Jasmine watch Tori and Christian from a distance. Jasmine wonders how it’s going. Ryder’s only just arrived but notes that they’re smiling and gives an 88.5% chance of success. At the table, Tori asks Christian how he’s single when he’s a good-looking and charming doctor. Christian interprets that as asking what’s wrong with him and suggests he simply hasn’t met the right person. Back at the Morgan house, Leah and Justin are debating the merits of his treatments. Justin is leaning towards radiotherapy and Leah suggests a pros and cons list. A pro is that it shrinks the tumour, a con is that he might still need an operation, although Leah points out it would be easier if the tumour’s shrunk. Another con is that it would make him unable to help out at the garage; Leah says that would mean more family time and thinks Ziggy can handle things. Justin says he’s lucky to have Leah in his life.

At the garage, Ziggy is aghast to learn from Tane that there’s a stolen van full of stolen goods in the garage and his friend has been picked up by the police. She tells him to get rid of it but Tane says if that was an option he’d already have done it: The police are looking out for the van. Ziggy is angry that he did all this when she trusted him but reluctantly agrees to him storing the van at the garage overnight. However, she refuses to let him go home, saying she’s going to keep an eye on him. Back at the farm house, Tane rings round but is unable to find anyone willing to help him. Ziggy comments on there being no loyalty among thieves. Tane says he’s done this before and is convinced he can sort it out. Ziggy continues to feel betrayed.

Tori admits she hasn’t been on a date since well before Grace was born. She asks Christian and, after joking about the number of dates he’s had that month, he says he hasn’t had one in a while either. Ryder comes over and asks if they want anything else. Christian says to just get the bill but Tori says to get it for her, since she’s a feminist and so he shouldn’t pay for her even though that would be romantic but then again she asked him out… Ryder says he’ll get the bill. Later, Christian and Tori walk by the beach, discussing becoming doctors. Christian says he spent six months with Doctors Without Borders when he started out. He met his ex-wife, another doctor, there and explains they married young and wanted different things and he’s still friends with her and her new husband. He asks about Grace and Tori notes she didn’t think she was capable of loving someone that much. Back at the Morgan house, Leah and Justin hear the pair arriving back. Leah convinces Justin they should give them some space, but Christian and Tori enter before they can leave the room, so they freeze out of view. Christian and Tori say good night and Christian leaves. Justin goes to bed as Leah quizzes Tori, who starts off saying the date went really well, then panics on realising they didn’t arrange another date or kiss and thinks she put him off by talking about Grace.

Next morning, Tane admits to Ziggy that he’s rung everyone he can think of and no-one will help. Ziggy is unhappy and insists Tane sort it out. They drive to the garage and start to panic when they seem someone’s there already. It’s Justin, who asks to speak to Ziggy in private. He tells her his symptoms have returned and he’s going to have to take more time off than planned. He suggests keeping Tane on if she’s happy with him.

At the Diner, Tori tells Irene, Leah and Jasmine her dilemma, although none of them think it’s a big deal than a good date didn’t end in a kiss or plans to see each other again. Christian comes in but just makes polite chit-chat about work before leaving. Jasmine admits that was weird. Tori leaves Grace with her and chases after Christian. She asks him what’s going on. Christian points out she could have kissed him and says he was being discreet at the Diner.

Justin approaches Tane and asks him about staying on. Tane says they’ll see how his first week goes but Justin says Ziggy’s been singing his praises. Tane says he’ll go with whatever Ziggy wants. Justin notices the van and Ziggy tells Tane to take it back to the customer, quietly telling him to take it to her place. After he’s gone, Justin compliments Ziggy on her running of the place and says you find out who your friends are. Shortly after, Ziggy heads to the farm and Tane says he hid the van in the shed. He wants to dump it somewhere deserted but Ziggy thinks if he’s caught he’ll be linked to the garage.

On the pier, Jasmine advises Tori not to make assumptions about Christian and says he’d be lucky to have her. Tori asks that they always be friends. She heads home and is shocked to find Christian there, talking with Leah and Justin. Justin says he’s decided to have radiotherapy. Tori asks if he’s thought of the side effects. Justin looks uncertain but Christian tells him he’s made an informed decision and ushers Tori out, saying they’ll go for a walk. Leah tells Justin to trust his instincts. Meanwhile, Tane tells Ziggy he’ll go to the city at the weekend to sort things. Ziggy doesn’t want to wait that long however and tells him to go now. She adds that she needs him to be honest with her.

Christian tells Tori that it’s Justin’s choice and he’s made the right one. Grace is unsettled and Christian goes to see to her. Jasmine, who is exercising nearby, has been looking pleased to see them together but her face falls when she sees Christian holding Grace. Shortly after, she is at the Diner. Irene asks her what the problem is and she notes it was hard seeing Christian playing dad with Robbo’s daughter. Irene thinks she’s jumping the gun but Jasmine notes that even if it’s not Christian, sooner or later Tori will be with someone that Grace calls Dad.

Tori and Christian are at Salt with Grace. Tori accepts Christian was right that she could have kissed him. Christian says a perfect date doesn’t need a kiss. He notes that he has to go to Reefton Lakes and the city to see patients, but afterwards they can sort it by spending the night together. He kisses her and leaves.
