Extended Summary

Ben and Ziggy walk up from the beach after a surf. Ziggy comments on Ben having recovered well after his drinking session. She takes the credit for him and Marco making up. Ben tells her about Marco wanting him to invest in the business, saying he considered it for one drunken second until Maggie shut it down. Although he’s pleased to have been asked, Ben agrees that he shouldn’t be making a big decision for sentimental reasons. Back at the farm house, Marco asks Maggie where everyone else is and she explains about Ben and Ziggy going for a surf. She asks why he wants the money and if he’s in trouble, also wondering if his parents know. Marco says he runs the business now and he just wants to reunite the family. Maggie asks why he’s blackmailing her in that case, telling him about Ben’s depression and medication. Marco simply says that he’d better not find out about them then.

Irene and Jasmine arrive at the Diner. Jasmine is excited about being pregnant. Irene asks if she’s sure and Jasmine says it explains everything: Missing her period, nausea, tiredness, lack of appetite. Irene thinks she should get a pregnancy test anyway and wonders how they’re going to tell people. Jasmine says she wants to tell Tori first, after which Irene can tell anyone. At the Morgan house, Tori is looking after Grace as Leah comments on Justin doing scrambled eggs wrong and he notes she’s back to normal. Tori asks about her going back to work. Justin thinks it’s too soon but quickly defers to Leah, who says she’s thinking of doing two or three shifts. She wants to go to the Diner to talk to Irene about it. Justin says he’ll go with her, then checks that’s okay. Leah says it is and goes to get dressed.

Ben and Ziggy are setting up the board shop; Ziggy has a meeting at work later but offers to help out until then. Maggie turns up. Ben tells her he agrees with her about not investing but Maggie says she’s slept on it and thinks they should give it some thought. Ziggy offers to look after the board shop while they go and talk it over. Down on the beach, Leah and Justin are approaching the Diner. Justin says he has an outboard to look at for Alf, after which he’s meant to be meeting Ziggy to discuss her apprenticeship. He stops at the bait shop, somewhat reluctantly letting Leah go on alone.

Inside, Irene notes Jasmine has got her appetite back and Jasmine asks for some muffins. Leah comes in and Irene jokingly asks where her bodyguard is, with Leah explaining he’s outside. Jasmine checks that Tori’s at home alone and asks for the muffins to take away. Leah tells Irene she’s thinking of coming back to work. Irene is pleased and points out that it’s Leah’s business too. Meanwhile, Jasmine arrives at the Morgan house in a jovial mood, saying she has morning tea, but quickly takes in Tori sat on the sofa, Grace on her lap, staring at a box in shock. Tori explains that it’s Mason’s ashes.

Ben and Maggie are walking along the beach. Ben says he is fine with rejecting Marco’s offer and just said as much to Ziggy. Maggie however says they should accept it. At the surf club, Marco turns up and Ziggy tells him about Ben and Maggie going for a walk to discuss his offer. She notes it’s a big deal for them, saying Ben nearly lost the business and it left him with more than stress. Marco says Maggie told him and the deal will benefit them. Ziggy reflects that Maggie always wants to know all the details. Marco offers to help out until they get back.

Jasmine comes back from putting Grace down in the bedroom and offers to get Tori something. Tori reflects that they were just beginning to move on and be happy again, and now this has put them right back. Leah and Justin come home in an initially cheery mood. Seeing the box and realising what it is, Justin sinks down, leaning on the sofa. Later, Leah, Justin, Leah and Tori are sat around. Justin complains that they should have been given some notice to prepare but Leah thinks you can’t prepare. He wonders how Mason’s life has been reduced to a box full of ashes. Leah doesn’t think that’s the case: He was their brother, her friend and Grace’s uncle, and lives on in their memories.

Ben is confused about how Maggie has switched from being dead against the idea. Maggie says she just didn’t like being cornered over drinks. Ben is worried about the risk but Maggie says they might be able to afford to retire early or take that trip to Italy. At the surf club, Marco sells some wax to a customer. Ben and Maggie arrive and Ben tells Marco they’re willing to revisit the idea. They suggest they go somewhere and talk about it; Ziggy says Justin cancelled the meeting, so she can look after the board shop. Ben tells her to take some money from the till and go get some lunch.

Tori wonders what they’re going to do with the ashes: Keep them in the box or an urn or scatter them in the back garden? Justin isn’t keen on discussing it. Leah asks if Mason ever let his wishes be known and Justin points out he was their baby brother. Tori recalls his pet rabbit Ginger dying when he was five or six. She and Justin remember that he would only go to bed if he could sleep between their parents in their bed, saying that must be what heaven was like, never being alone. At the Diner, Jasmine explains to Irene that it wasn’t the right time. Ziggy hears a snatch of the conversation and they tell her about Mason’s ashes arriving; Ziggy realises that was why Justin cancelled the meeting. Jasmine gets a call from Tori.

Soon after, Tori is giving Jasmine instructions on looking after Grace. Justin returns from making a phone call outside and says Brody and Raffy are fine with it. Leah asks to go with them and they agree. Some time later, the three of them walk across a bridge: Tori carrying the ashes, Leah some flowers and Justin a plain white cross. They reach two more plain crosses and Justin explains it’s their parents. Tori says they’ll look after him now.

Ben is somewhat confused by the accounting software and Marco says he’ll get an IT person to look it over. He pours champagne for himself and Ben, but Maggie declines, saying someone should keep a clear head. Ben asks about logistics, saying he doesn’t want to give up the board shop. Marco says he’ll still handle the day-to-day running; Ben and Maggie would be silent partners with quarterly meetings, reviews and a return. Ben says they agree in theory. Later, Ben chats to Marco about their dad, who Marco says puts his head in every now and then but usually has other things to occupy him. Ben gets a call from Ziggy and goes to the shed to look for stock. Maggie asks Marco why he hasn’t left now he’s got the money. Marco bitterly says Maggie knew how he felt about her, yet used him for a one-night stand and then dumped him. Maggie protests that she was nineteen, stupid and heartbroken. Marco makes it clear he isn’t going anywhere.
