Extended Summary

Ziggy watches the cars at the race track for a moment before going back into the party. A guy called Joe introduces himself to her, saying he’s part of Danny’s team and noting this is the only time you get all the crews together before they go back to hating each other. He is surprised there’s another woman on Kurt’s team, saying he has a reputation, but Ziggy says he and Alana have been professional with her. Joe goes to check on his head wrench and Kurt brings Ziggy a tequila. Alana looks unhappy. At the Stewart house, Roo is tutoring Bella, telling her to do the easier questions first. Bella gets a text from Colby saying he can’t pick her up and Roo jokes she can do more essays. Alf enters, noting there’s no news of Leah and he’s going to put up posters. Ryder also comes in and Bella throws a paper ball at him, joking about him leaving school. Ryder says he heard she wasn’t well and asks if she’s better. Bella says she’s still not 100%.

Mackenzie is putting Salt straight while chatting to Ben and Maggie about Dean: The trip didn’t help, since he simply disappeared for two days and came back smelling of a brewery. She says she wouldn’t have called Colby if she knew he’d arrest Dean but Ben and Maggie think he hadn’t much choice. Meanwhile, Colby drags Dean into the police station. Dean is joking, asking if a female officer can strip search him and if Colby’s going to beat him up. Colby takes him into the interview room, saying he knows this is about Ziggy and it’s just them. Dean doesn’t say anything so Colby says he’ll get him a coffee.

Roo and Bella chat about her work and how study is helping. Jade turns up and gives Roo her rent. Bella introduces herself and Ryder introduces Jade as his girlfriend, which she doesn’t look too happy about. She says they should go to work and Bella decides to walk with them. Roo says a pointed goodbye to Jade. Bella tells Ryder that relationships don’t work, pointing to him and Raffy and Coco. At the party, Ziggy is drinking shots with Joe and Kurt. Joe pulls out but Kurt goes to get another bottle. Alana takes Ziggy aside, saying Ziggy might be a nice person but Kurt isn’t and she shouldn’t let herself be used by him. Ziggy says that’s not going to happen. Alana warns her it wouldn’t be good for the team and would end her career before it’s started.

Jade is walking ahead of Ryder and Bella near the beach. Ryder says Jade’s different to other girls he’s dated. Bella notes she’s older. Ryder says they’ve connected and have great sexual chemistry, thinking he’s punching above his weight. They see the Missing poster for Leah. Ryder worries something has happened to her but Bella points out she was missing for years and is mostly all right. At the same time, Ben and Maggie are shocked to see the posters near the Diner and Alf fills them in. He suggests Ben put some posters up at the board shop and Maggie says she’ll make an announcement at school. Ben decides to take Maggie home and then go and check on Dean.

Ryder, Bella and Jade arrive at Salt; Ryder and Jade are now being very physically affectionate, to Bella’s annoyance, and arranging to meet at her van after work. Mackenzie notes it’s been a long time since Bella’s been in there and warns her not to cause trouble before telling Ryder to serve her. Bella rather unspecifically asks for a drink and pizza. At the party, Joe suggests he and Ziggy go for a burger. Ziggy sees Kurt and Alana arguing. Kurt rejoins her with the tequila and they both assert nothing will happen between them, with Kurt saying Alana’s just competitive.

Colby rejoins Dean in the interview room and sees he hasn’t touched the coffee. He suggests Dean could talk to him, saying he’s had two relationships go wrong this year. Dean says if Colby isn’t going to charge him he’s leaving. Colby lets him go, but says if he gets any more calls about Dean, he’ll charge him with being drunk and disorderly. Dean walks straight past a newly arrived Ben. Colby and Ben compare notes and Ben decides to give Dean a lift. At Salt, Ryder remains coupley with Jade behind the bar as Bella calls over about her drink. Ryder gives her a mocktail, which she appreciates despite winding him up about his table service. Mackenzie tells Ryder to clear tables and comments on Bella seeming better. Bella says it’s the love and support she gets from her brother.

Bella beats a surf club patron at pool and chats briefly to Ryder before Colby turns up. He wants to go upstairs to talk to Mackenzie about Dean, but Bella says she’s cold, tired and has a headache. Colby decides to take her home and text Mac. Mackenzie watches from the stairs. Outside, Ben and Dean pull up. Dean is happy to be left there. Ben says he and Maggie are there for him and thinks it’s a shame he split up with Ziggy. Dean thinks he never had a chance with her. Ben says Dean picked Ziggy up after Brody, as well as giving Ben himself a job, and is good enough for anyone. He encourages him to make up with Ziggy. Dean says it’s not that easy.

Ziggy is waiting in her chalet. There’s a knock at the door. She answers it, telling the person there she wasn’t sure if they’d come: It’s Joe. He and Ziggy kiss but Ziggy looks uncertain. Back at Salt, Mackenzie is distracted and tells Ryder she has to go out. Jade asks a customer for $30, then pockets the money. Ryder sees and is shocked, dragging her into the storeroom. He says he thought her rent was sorted. Jade doesn’t think it’s a big deal, saying Mackenzie won’t miss it. Ryder realises it’s not the first time she’s stolen since he caught her. He tries to get her to tell Mackenzie. She refuses so he says if she doesn’t he will.

Mackenzie meets Colby on the wharf; she got his text about Dean but it’s not about that. Colby doesn’t want to leave Bella alone too long. Mackenzie tells him Bella’s faking: She was perfectly fine in Salt but changed when he turned up. Colby is infuriated, saying he and Bella are nothing to do with her anymore so she should leave them alone.
