Extended Summary

Justin and Ben run into each other on the beach; Justin notes he tried to attract Ben’s attention while they were surfing. He congratulates him on the charges being dropped and getting the board shop back. Ben asks about Tori. Justin hasn’t spoken to the hospital this morning but assumes there’s no change. Ben says to let them know if there’s anything they can do. Up in the Diner flat, Robbo is on the phone to Lance while trying to settle Grace in a cot, saying he’ll look at his statement soon. He goes over to his laptop but Grace starts crying. After briefly trying to work, he goes back and settles her.

John walks Marilyn into the Diner but she says he doesn’t have to, dismissing yesterday as a wobble and telling him to get off to the surf club. He says to call if she needs anything. Irene quizzes Marilyn who says she had a moment while thinking about the Morgans. Irene suggests Marilyn’s missing Raffy. Marilyn says she’s happy that Raffy’s happy, but once alone in the kitchen she looks teary. At the surf club, Maggie watches as Ben finishes setting up. She asks if he’s spoken to Alex about getting back on medication. He hasn’t, but has made an appointment for the afternoon. John comes in and notes it’s good to have Ben back. Ben notes he’s changed his tune and John pretends not to know what he’s talking about.

Justin arrives outside the Morgan house and sees Ava playing with Buddy in the garden. Leah emerges and he tells her about running into Ben and that he’s planning to call the hospital after having a shower. He says he’s doing better but, stopping to watch Ava for a minute, admits he’s not sure how he’d cope without her around. Meanwhile, Robbo takes Grace into the Diner, to Marilyn’s delight, and asks Irene for a takeaway coffee, since Grace doesn’t like sitting still. Marilyn suggests he’s out of practise and he admits he spent a lot of time at work when his other kids were born so Lauren did most of it. Marilyn says he’s got Jasmine to help and Robbo explains she’s back at work. Irene asks if that was her idea. Robbo says he thought it was best to get everything back to normal.

Justin is getting dressed when Leah comes into his room. His phone rings and he wonders if it’s the hospital; Leah says it’s Brody so he lets it go to voicemail. He says it’s difficult keeping everyone in the loop with the family so scattered and decides to call the hospital. Later, he joins Leah outside and tells her the hospital are taking Tori for a scan, hopefully to rule out another bleed on the brain. He hasn’t told Brody, Raffy or Mason yet. Leah offers to do it but Justin says it’s down to him. Leah suggests they take Ava for a walk and play football afterwards. Justin goes back inside and Ava comes over, asking if he’s all right. Leah says he’s just got a lot on his mind and tells her about the plan.

Ben watches as a pair of surfers store their boards and wander off without looking at him. John comes over and Ben says he hasn’t sold anything yet. He worries that people won’t come back after seeing the federal notice and that he made a mistake starting up again with the same name and location. John tries to convince him to give it time. Meanwhile, Leah, Justin and Ava are walking along the headland. They run into Robbo and all crowd round to look at Grace while Justin gives him a brief update on Tori. Grace starts crying and Leah makes various suggestions but Robbo says it’s simply because she doesn’t like staying still. He walks off and Leah comments on him being sleep-deprived while Justin plays with Ava.

Marilyn serves Maggie at the Diner and Maggie notes Raffy’s new school in Victoria contacted her for her academic record and coping strategies. Marilyn didn’t know she’d enrolled anywhere but agrees it makes sense and covers her confusion as not knowing much about the VCE. Maggie gets a call from John which leaves her worried. She finds John watching Ben, who is on the path down to the beach, from near the surf club. She joins Ben, who is in a panic fearing the board shop is going to fail again. Maggie tries to lead him in breathing techniques but it doesn’t work, so she decides to take him to Alex straightaway. John offers to look after the board shop.

Marilyn is sat outside the Diner; Grace’s crying can be heard from the flat. Irene joins her, joking that she thought Marilyn had walked off the job. Marilyn says she just wanted some peace and quiet. Irene comments on the irony. Marilyn notes that everyone’s focusing on Tori and the Morgans but Robbo’s life has been turned upside down as well. Irene says it’s the same for Jasmine. Marilyn heads back inside but Irene makes for the flat. Robbo is trying to rock Grace while making some milk formula. Irene says he’s not fooling anyone. She takes Grace who soon settles. Robbo asks how she did it and Irene says babies can smell fear.

Justin, Leah and Ava arrive home, with the girls teasing Justin about losing. Justin gives Ava a bone to give to Buddy. Leah thinks Justin needs support so suggests he goes to see Brody and Raffy, taking Mason and Ava with him, so they can all deal with things together: She can stay there and let them know if anything happens with Tori. Justin agrees it’s a great idea. At the surf club, John greets Ben and Maggie on their return, eventually getting the hint and leaving them alone. Ben has accepted he needs to let the medication build up in his system and thinks he knows what to expect with the side effects. Maggie leaves him alone to deal with his first customer.

At the Diner, John tries to talk to Marilyn but she’s clearly preoccupied. She tells him about Raffy going back to school and how she didn’t tell them. John thinks she has other things on her mind but Marilyn sees it as a sign they’re no longer part of her life. She wonders what their life is like without Jett and Raffy. Upstairs, Irene is bottle feeding Grace and tells Robbo everyone can see he’s struggling and he can’t be everything to her. Robbo thinks it’s all on his shoulders but Irene thinks everyone needs help. Later, Irene is looking after Grace alone and warning her that Robbo’s always grumpy. Robbo emerges: He’s too wound up to sleep so is going for a run, although he has trouble finding his running shoes. He goes outside and runs on the beach but his mind is still full of thoughts of Jasmine saying she doesn’t want children, him saying Grace is his responsibility and Irene warning he can’t do everything.
