Extended Summary

Dean and Mackenzie walk near the beach, discussing how her surfing lessons are coming on. Mackenzie heads to work. Willow, who is setting up a class nearby, jokingly invites Dean to join in the kickboxing and comments on how things are going well with Mackenzie. She says that she might come by Salt later to annoy him. At Salt, Colby gets a text from Bella saying she’s having dinner with Irene. Mackenzie comes in and offers him one of the new IPA beers she’s got in. Colby sees Dean has entered and says another time. Dean tries to get him to stay and make use of his staff discount, saying he doesn’t have to go, but Colby says he does.

Jasmine is treating Robbo’s injuries and thinks he should be in hospital but Scott wants to check it with Lance. Robbo comes round and tells them not to call an ambulance, claiming it’s just cuts and bruises. Jasmine says it’s cracked ribs at least, maybe internal bleeding. She sends Scott to get medical supplies. Robbo insists he’s fine so Jasmine challenges him to stand up. He very slowly sits up, then asks if she’s satisfied. Meanwhile, Colby helps Willow clear up after the class. He explains about Bella being out and that he’s just been to Salt. Willow guesses that he’s avoiding Dean and Mackenzie so ends up arranging to join him at the flat. She says she’ll pick up the pizzas…but not pay for them.

Maggie arrives home, surprising Ben who didn’t realise how late it was. He says he sat down to watch television and just stayed there. Maggie notes he hasn’t showered and asks if he’s contacted the real estate agent. He says he left a message so she tells him to call again. At the motel, Jasmine helps Robbo to sit as Scott returns. Robbo insists on giving an account, telling him about the men, including the one with the tattoo, and how he was taken to an oyster place on the river. He then reveals they want Dylan Carter; he and Robbo explain to Jasmine how everyone thought Dylan was dead. Scott goes to run a check and Jasmine insists Robbo tells her everything.

Willow arrives at Salt and asks Mackenzie for the pizza order. Dean suggests they have dinner later but Willow says she has plans with Colby, adding that it’s Dean’s fault Colby’s on his own. Dean initially tries to deny it before admitting there’s some truth in that. Willow leaves with the order. Dean asks Mackenzie what her and Colby were talking about. Mackenzie says nothing much, adding that it’s the first time they’ve talked since the break-up. Back at the flat, Willow checks the television and finds The Avengers on but Colby isn’t paying attention so she turns it off. She suspects he’s thinking of Mackenzie, since he took off his wedding ring for her. Colby reminds her she told him to stay away. Willow thinks it’s different now Mackenzie and Dean are getting on but Colby says it’s too complicated. He turns the television back on and is surprised that The Avengers is on.

Ben and Maggie are picking at dinner. Ben asks where Ziggy is and Maggie says she’s out with friends from Tafe, which Ben knew but had forgotten. He gets an e-mail from the estate agent saying there’s been no interest so far. Maggie presents him with a legal bill; Ben doesn’t know how they’ll pay it but Maggie says the due date is a way off and they’ll probably get an offer before then. Despite barely having eaten anything, Ben decides to do the dishes. At the motel, Robbo tells Jasmine he doesn’t remember what happened on the boat: The police think Dylan is dead but the new guys don’t. They must think he knows where Dylan is or helped him. Jasmine wonders why he’d help someone he thinks was involved in his family’s murders. She asks how much danger they’re in.

Next morning, Dean and Mackenzie finish off a surf. Mackenzie notes she thought she was going to die but also gives a quote from Point Break about the ultimate reward. Colby approaches and compliments her but things soon get awkward and Mackenzie heads off to work. Dean asks Colby what he talked about to Willow. Colby says it was just about Bella and the Avengers, before heading out to surf. At the motel, Robbo and Scott discuss the fact there’s no match for the tattoo, so either the man doesn’t have a criminal record or it’s new. There’s also no way to track the phone number on the note. Jasmine isn’t keen on Robbo going out and Scott agrees, wanting him to work with a sketch artist.

Alf is untangling a net outside the bait shop. Maggie approaches and offers to help. She notes she’s trying to give Ben some space. As they talk, Ben makes himself a drink (there is a note saying “I love you” on top of one of the tubs which he throws away) and settles down on the sofa. Back at the motel, Scott arrives with evidence boxes. He says the stuff on the corruption case and Robbo’s family’s murders are at the station but what Robbo is focusing on now is Dylan.

Dean approaches Colby where he’s having a shower and insists they clear the air. Colby isn’t in the mood however and they argue about Dean’s role in Colby and Mackenzie’s break-up with Dean saying he was worried Colby would mess things up. Both Willow and Mackenzie approach during the argument. Mackenzie asks for an explanation but ends up storming off without waiting for one. Willow follows Colby back to his flat, commenting that sometimes she doesn’t know why she’s friends with him and Dean. Colby says he’s trying to get over Mackenzie but Willow thinks it’s too late and he can’t turn his feelings off.

Dean approaches Mackenzie at Salt but she refuses his offer of help. Dean insists he didn’t tell Colby to break up with her, but admits he did say he was going to step away from them, which Mackenzie calls emotional blackmail. Dean admits he was worried he’d have to choose between them. Mackenzie tells him to leave, saying his shift is cancelled.
