Extended Summary
Ben and Ziggy walk near the beach, chatting about the poker game. Dean appears and Ziggy greets him with a kiss until Ben reminds them he’s there. Ziggy asks about Karen and Dean asks about the boards. Ziggy suggests Ben owes Maggie for coming up with the factory idea. Ben asks Dean to work a shift. Meanwhile, Justin and Ava come back into the Morgan house. Ava refuses to believe Justin’s claim that she’s important to him and goes to her room. Justin explains to Tori that Ava was rude to Leah and thinks he doesn’t love her. Tori convinces him to give Ava space and check on Leah.
At the Diner, Leah tells Maggie that Ava overreacted. Maggie suggests she talk to Justin, who arrives at that moment. Leah apologises for taking off. Justin thinks this is about more than them. At the surf club, Ziggy again asks Dean how things went with Karen. Dean admits he didn’t tell her about Rick: She’s in a good place and might be discharged soon, and she always got upset when he brought up his father in the past. Ziggy says Willow told her it was tough for him. Dean, annoyed, says to ask him next time and Ziggy says she will. She tries to convince him he can’t ignore Mackenzie and Rick but he refuses to discuss it. Ziggy leaves, passing Maggie. Ben suggests he and Maggie have a picnic on the beach. Maggie has a gym session and work to do but says she’ll meet him afterwards.
Justin tells Leah that Ava thinks he doesn’t love her. Leah thinks it was a mistake to make the trip all about meeting her instead of Ava spending time with Justin. Justin doesn’t know what to do with Ava but doesn’t want to keep Leah away from her since she’s part of his life now. Ava is playing cards with Tori when Justin and Leah arrive back. Justin and Leah apologise to Ava, saying Leah was just excited to meet Ava because of everything Justin’s said about her but they didn’t think about what she wanted. They ask Ava what she wants. Ava just says she wants to go home.
Ziggy follows Dean outside the surf club, saying she only spoke to Willow because she cares about him. She reiterates that he can’t ignore Rick. Dean says Rick keeps messaging him, but after what happened with Mackenzie, he’s not sure who to trust. Later, on the beach, Ziggy says that Rick hasn’t reached out to Dean before and suggests he might have processed things since Dean turned up at his house. Dean thinks Rick doesn’t deserve a chance. Ziggy thinks Dean deserves a chance to have a relationship with him.
Tori wonders if Ava will be joining them for dinner. Justin says he told her food was ready and if she wants to eat, she can come out of her room. Leah, Tori and Justin settle at the table. Ava appears and gets her plate. Justin says if she wants to eat she’ll have to sit with them. Ava does so but doesn’t say anything. Later, however, they are all having a relaxed discussion about ice cream. Tori feels the baby kicking and Ava gets to feel. Justin says the baby will probably be called Apple or Ocean. Ava suggests Alice. Justin recalls how Nina and Brian used to call her Bunny. Ava’s mood darkens again and she says she wants to home and hates him, running to her room.
At the Diner, Alf and Ben chat about another poker night. Ziggy appears and wonders why Ben isn’t doing anything with Maggie. Ben mentions the picnic idea. Ziggy is unimpressed and asks what Maggie’s always wanted. Ben quips that she wanted a son. Ziggy asks what they talked about when she had cancer. At the surf club, Dean gets a text saying “Am I wasting my time? Call me”, and notices an earlier text suggesting doing something at the weekend. He calls Rick, suggesting they meet up for a beer. Rick suggests Dean come out to his boat tomorrow. Dean agrees and says to text him the details. Ziggy hears the end of the conversation and Dean explains.
Maggie meets Ben for the picnic. Ben hands her an envelope, which turns out to contain mock-up boarding passes. Ben reminds her she wanted to visit Tuscany and says they’ve got time during the school holidays for a tour of Italy: The money from the boards should cover it. Later, Ziggy watches on in bewilderment at the Diner as they sort out an itinerary including Rome, Pompeii and Florence. Ben explains Maggie has encyclopaedic knowledge of Italy. Dean appears with the takings and Ziggy explains he won’t be at work tomorrow. They go outside for a chat and agree Ziggy will go with Dean.
Leah and Justin listen at the bathroom door. Justin says Ava was pleased to see him when he turned up and everything seems fine at school; Nina was quiet but always is with him. Ava emerges and Leah goes to bed. Justin suggests he and Ava watch a movie if she can’t sleep. Later, Ava is leaning against him with her eyes closed. Justin asks if she’s being bullied at school. Ava says hearing the name Bunny makes her sad now: Brian and Nina were arguing all the time and now he’s packed all his things and gone.
Next morning, Dean and Ziggy are being taken by dinghy to Rick’s boat. Ziggy tries to reiterate that they can leave if it gets awkward. Dean notes the boat is enormous. Rick waves to them from the deck. Ziggy asks if Dean’s ready and he says not in the slightest.
