Extended Summary

Jasmine attempts to revive Dean, who quickly comes round but is a bit groggy. She asks what he was taking. Colby says they were sleeping pills but not from a pharmacist and he flushed them. Jasmine realises Dean is dehydrated and wants to call an ambulance but Dean refuses to go to hospital. Jasmine decides to bring the hospital to him and tells Colby to keep an eye on him while she gets some things. At the surf club, Willow finds Ben trying to placate a board shop customer while sorting out a delivery at the juice bar. He explains that he’s covering with Alf and John away and could use Dean’s help. Willow says he has the flu but dissuades Ben from going to see him, instead offering to stack the delivery while Ben deals with the customer.

Willow finds Jasmine outside the Diner; she has been getting some clothes for Dean and quickly realises that Willow is in on what he and Colby are doing. Willow offers to help; Jasmine tells her to get in the car because they need to make another stop. The pair return to the motel where Jasmine gets Colby to make up a drink for Dean and also sets up a drip, telling Colby not to ask where she got it from. She manages to cannulate Dean and get some fluids into him, convincing Colby to go and get some fresh air and a coffee.

Colby and Willow head to the Diner. They run into Irene outside and Colby asks her for some sports drinks, explaining Dean’s not well. Irene offers to get chicken soup from the freezer, adding that she’ll offer any help necessary. Colby tells Willow that she’s the only one Dean listens to and agrees that he’ll take Dean to hospital if Jasmine can’t help. Soon after though, Dean is more his old self, sitting chatting to Willow. Jasmine asks Colby what caused it. Colby can’t tell her but Jasmine says whatever issue Dean has could resurface and put him right back where he was. Dean wants to go back to his van and is reluctant to go to Colby’s flat. Willow tells Colby to go on and they’ll join him later. Colby returns to the flat where he slumps in a chair, Dean’s words from earlier repeating in his ears.

Colby heads downstairs when Willow and Jasmine arrive, supporting Dean between them. Dean insists he can walk by himself. However, after taking a few steps using the railings to keep himself upright, he seems to realise the stairs are too much for him and asks for help. They get him upstairs and tell him to get some rest. Jasmine goes to get a blanket; while she’s out of the room, Dean tries to talk to Colby but Colby doesn’t seem keen. Jasmine and Colby decide to go and ask Irene if she can look after Bella.

Irene is somewhat bemused by the explanation that Dean is contagious but agrees to look after Bella, saying she’ll meet her after school and jokingly suggesting Colby get her out of a parking ticket in exchange. After Colby has gone, she comments to Jasmine that she suspects there’s more to it. Colby heads back upstairs, on the phone to Bella explaining. Willow gives him an overnight bag she’s packed. Dean again tries to talk to Colby but he says he can’t stop. Dean explains to Willow that he gave Colby a serve last night.

A short time later, Colby is outside the surf club looking indecisive. Ben approaches and, after jokingly suggesting he goes for a surf, asks about Dean and notes he could use him. Colby says Dean’s a top bloke and loyal. Ben agrees, saying that’s the only reason he hasn’t fired him. After he’s gone, Colby calls Chelsea’s number and gets through to her voicemail. He says that he understands why she doesn’t want to talk to him and why she left: He let her down and wishes he could have been the person she deserves. Back at the flat, Willow tells Dean that he shouldn’t try and take back what he said to Colby, since bottling things up has caused his problems. Dean thinks his only options are the pills or the nightmares but Willow convinces him to rest.

Colby meets up with Jasmine near the beach; she asks about Dean and he asks about Bella. He thanks her for her help and asks if she’s heard from Robbo. Jasmine says she’s trying to move on and not care. Colby tells her not to give up unless she’s absolutely certain it’s over. He heads back to the flat where Dean is asleep and hands Willow, who is sat next to him, a blanket and a cushion. Down on the beach, Jasmine looks at a photo of herself and Robbo on her phone.

Willow leaves Dean sleeping and joins Colby sitting on the balcony. She says she knows about what Dean said. Colby says Dean’s a good friend who always put them over his own wellbeing, not telling him he was struggling because he didn’t want to make things worse. He says he thought he could put what happened with Ross in the past but it’s a ticking time bomb and he has to stop them suffering because of it. Nearby, Jasmine leaves a phone message for Robbo saying she loves and misses him.

Colby offers to let Willow go but she insists on staying with Dean. Colby says he’s going to take responsibility and turn himself in: It’s the only way Bella will ever stop being scared of Ross coming back. Willow tries to talk him out of it but Colby is adamant, saying he just has to work out a way to tell her.
