Extended Summary

Ziggy continues to fret to Ben about Simone. Brody comes in, saying he thought he and Ziggy were meeting at home. Ziggy says she got tired waiting. Ben tells Brody about Simone getting a job at the school and Brody feigns surprise. He and Ziggy leave. At the Diner, Simone is sitting on her own. Leah comes over and says they’re closing. Simone leaves, seeming close to tears.

Alf and Martha are sitting in silence, her reading and him doing the crossword, until he complains the clues don’t make sense. He asks Martha where she wants their next trip in the Blaxland to be to, adding it had better be a fishing spot. Leah comes home and Martha offers her a cuppa. Leah comments to Alf that it’s good to see them spending the evening together. Next morning, Ziggy and Justin run into each other on the beach. He asks her about the previous night and she says they went out drinking after the movie. Ben comes over and Ziggy comments on the bad start to the night. Ben tells Justin about Simone working at the school. Justin is surprised but Ben doesn’t think it’s anything to worry about, especially since it means Simone’s not working with Brody.

Alf is heading out to work, running late. After he’s gone, Martha comes into the house and tells Leah she’s done a painting of Alf and is hoping to get it framed and hanged there. Leah admires it and Martha says it’s easy with the ones you love. Alf has just returned to get his phone. He first tells Martha he didn’t hear anything, then cuts her off when she tries to explain, snapping at her, and hurries out. At Salt, Brody leaves a message on Simone’s voicemail asking to meet. Justin comes in and asks about Simone’s job. Brody says it wasn’t his idea. Justin asks what the plan is and Brody admits it’s messy and will end badly. Justin urges him to end the affair. Brody gets a text from Simone agreeing to meet.

Outside the bait shop, John is talking to Alf about getting a carpenter for the surf club. Alf notes he normally tunes out what John’s saying. Marilyn brings Alf a cup of tea and tells him Martha’s said he’s not to have a biscuit. John leaves as Marilyn presses with Alf, who eventually admits what he heard Martha say. Marilyn thinks it’s delightful but Alf says it’s too much too soon. Marilyn says he and Martha were deeply in love once and it wouldn’t be a surprise if they still felt that way, adding that love is scary but rewarding. Back at the caravan park house, Leah is about to leave for work but finds Martha close to tears. Martha explains about Alf overhearing and thinks she’s stayed too long. She tells Leah she’ll miss her.

Brody and Simone meet up in a bushy area near the beach. She isn’t too keen on hearing about his night out with Ziggy and is disappointed he still hasn’t made a decision. Brody assures her he still wants a relationship with her and kisses her. Simone say it’s hard waiting around. Brody says he doesn’t want to lose her. At the Diner, Ziggy teases Ben about working on Bella’s bedroom. Simone comes in and Ziggy notes it’s the end of her good mood. Ben leaves and Ziggy goes to the counter, ordering a coffee from Leah, then asking Simone about doing unpaid work for both Maggie and Brody, saying some people, not her, might think she has an agenda. Simone says they’d be wrong.

Marilyn joins Alf outside the bait shop. Leah arrives, wanting to talk about Martha. Alf initially tries to avoid the subject, until Leah tells him Martha’s about to leave. With some encouragement from Martha, Alf hurries off. At the house, Martha has left the painting with a note saying “How I’ll always remember you.” She takes one last look around and goes to leave, at which point Alf bursts in, saying he’s not going to let her walk away again.

Justin comes into the Diner and Leah tells him about the tension between Ziggy and Simone. Justin comments that sometimes you just have to let people make their own mistakes and notes he can’t talk about it. At Salt, Ziggy comes up behind Brody. She suggests they have lunch but Brody says he’s already eaten. Ziggy suggests going for a walk and Brody calls her needy. Ziggy looks hurt and he apologises.

Ziggy goes to see Ben, who is working at the Diner flat, and insists Simone has an agenda. Ben thinks it’s as simple as Simone overhearing Maggie talking about the job. Ziggy worries that Brody’s right and she’s the problem. Meanwhile, Simone meets up with Brody again and tells him about Ziggy asking questions. She notes both she and Ziggy are sure of what they want, so Brody’s the one leaving them in limbo. She tells him not to call her again until he’s made a decision.

Martha thinks she upset Alf and has ruined things between them but Alf eventually says he was shocked because he wasn’t ready to admit his own feelings. He suggests they go on as they have been and see where things go. Martha agrees and they link hands. Later, at the Diner, Leah and Marilyn express relief at the pair sorting things out, as Alf chats to John about Martha’s painting. Jett suddenly comes in to surprise them and John and Marilyn happily greet him.
