A surprise offer for Chelsea forces a change of wedding plans. Raffy feels left behind as Ryder and Coco study for their learners driving licence.

Extended Summary

Willow tracks down Dean on the beach, saying he needs to help her with a wedding emergency. She gets a call from Chelsea and drags him along. Up at the flat, Chelsea details Colby and Bella to look at celebrants and cakes. Dean and Willow arrive and are told that the wedding’s been delayed for a couple of months, which Chelsea is taking as an excuse to get things done properly. Dean and Bella try to get out of helping but are ordered to stay.

Ross goes into a flat with his bags. He has a newspaper with his own picture on the cover and a headline about the manhunt continuing. He scans it and looks out the window. At the surf club, Ben comments on Coco hanging around. She asks for a lift home but he has to run the board shop. Bella enters, followed by Ryder and Raffy, who are quite loved up but tone it down when they see Coco. Ryder tries to make small talk about the shop, prompting Bella to dub the situation awkward, which the others deny. Bella points out they’ve got an even number so can play pool and the others agree.

Colby and Dean are down in the Diner picking up food. Dean complains about having to pick flowers but Colby says he should just pick what Chelsea likes. Colby goes over to Maggie and admits Bella didn’t take the news of the catch up well. Maggie agrees to see what she can do. Once they’ve returned to the flat, Chelsea suggests working on the guest list and says she wants the event to be big. Colby suggests to Dean looking at it as a party that he’s paying for.

Ross emerges from the bathroom, having apparently just had a shower. He takes out his phone and looks at photos of Bella. Later, he stands in front of the bathroom mirror, cricking his neck in an odd way. Back at the Diner flat, Colby suggests to Chelsea that now they’ve sorted out friends she should invite her parents, since they might come round in the next two months. Chelsea shuts the idea down and Dean and Willow make a hasty exit. Colby tries to get Chelsea to at least think about it.

Willow and Dean walk near the beach. Willow comments on how in love Colby and Chelsea are and recalls how, when they were young, she was desperate to get Dean to notice her. Dean seems uncomfortable with the conversation and tries to get going but Willow wants him to have a drink with her after she’s checked the gym. At the surf club, the teens’ game continues to be awkward, with Ryder apologising for good shots and being uncomfortable near Coco. Ben tells Coco she can have a lift now and Raffy goes as well. Willow and Dean come in and Dean uses walking Bella home as an excuse to duck out. However, Bella says she can get home on her own so Dean challenges Ryder to a pool game instead.

Colby and Chelsea are bantering outside the Diner flat. Bella comes up the steps. Ross is hiding nearby and quietly calls out to her; Bella seems to hear him but carries on up the stairs. Colby tells her that Maggie has agreed to tutor her over the summer so she can get into Year 11. Bella is pleased; Ross listens in. Next morning, at the surf club, a somewhat zoned out Coco is pricing up the board shop. Ben and Maggie ask her why she’s quiet and she says that everyone else at the camp seemed to be doing something amazing over the summer, like dune rehabiliation and building schools in Sri Lanka. Ben suggests she learns to drive.

At the Diner, John complains to Alf and Marilyn about “ageism”: He was hoping to join the army reserve to support Jett. Ryder delivers Raffy for her first shift back since her accident. Raffy is feeling a bit nervous about both the shift and how things are with Coco. Both Ryder and Marilyn do their best to reassure her. Meanwhile, Maggie meets Colby at Salt and tells him she’s got Bella into a course in the city that starts around the time they move. Colby admits the move’s been delayed. Maggie is slightly frustrated but says she’ll tutor Bella herself.

Outside the Diner, Dean finds Chelsea on the phone. Inside, John seems to have accepted the end of his army reserve plans. He asks Alf if he ever considered it after Vietnam but Alf says he’s spent forty years trying to forget it, which John understands. Chelsea tells Dean she’s been accepted into a detective’s course after someone dropped out. Problem is it starts in two weeks. Up in the flat, Colby tells Chelsea to go for it. Chelsea doesn’t see that she can, since orientation is that afternoon and then in two weeks she’d have to move to the city, meaning she won’t be there for the wedding. Colby doesn’t want her to put her career off.

Ryder finds Coco at the surf club: She is taking the test to get her L plates online. Alf and Ben suggest the two of them take it together, with Alf commenting that he had his own car by the time he was Ryder’s age. Ryder seems interested. He goes to the Diner and tries to get Raffy to join them. Raffy points out she’s too young. Ryder says she can learn and then take her test after her birthday but Raffy says she also can’t do it unless she’s been seizure-free for a year. Marilyn briefly consoles her. Nearby, Maggie gives Bella a pep talk about the catch-up. Raffy comments to Bella that everyone helped her after her accident. Bella agrees that it seems people in the bay do that.

Colby finds Chelsea on the wharf. Chelsea says that she doesn’t want a big do, she just wants to be married to him: She thinks they should have a small wedding straightaway. They meet Dean and Willow at Salt and reveal they want to get married tomorrow. Everyone else will have to sort it out while Chelsea is at the orientation in the city.

Down on the beach, Colby tells Bella the new plan to move to the city in two weeks. Bella is annoyed at yet another change, saying she has friends and people that are going to help her there, and isn’t moved by Coby saying she’ll find new ones in the city. Bella storms off but, once she’s out of sight, Ross grabs her from behind, trying to reassure her that it’s him.
