Extended Summary

Christina brings Hunter a drink outside the surf club; he is exhausted after their session but she tells him he needs to be able to keep up with the squad and could be running sessions like this himself. She says normally it’s only available to third years but she thought he was ready. Hunter suggests they go to the gym but Christina says she has a faculty meeting and class. Hunter suggests they meet afterwards, saying he can get use of the gym after hours. At the hospital, Ben and Maggie have filled Coco and Ziggy in on the news. Coco is delighted but Ziggy is more cautious, saying it was good news last time as well. Ben says this is a better match and Ziggy agrees that is good news. Maggie wishes she could tell Diana but she’s not accepting her calls. Ben leaves the room and calls Diana, saying Maggie has some good news she wants to share with her.

Willow wakes up in the motel, with Justin sat on the couch. He says it’s nearly midday. Willow is uncomfortable with the situation, saying she got emotional yesterday because of Dean and downplaying her gambling, claiming it’s not a problem. She wants to go but Justin says he’s booked the motel for a few days so she might as well stay. He says he’s going out for coffee and takes her phone. Left alone, Willow tries reading a magazine then turns the radio on and gets racing coverage. She changes it to music and tries reading again, but quickly changes the channel back and starts taking notes.

Ziggy and Coco are reading horoscopes and jokingly claim that Maggie’s means Ben is cheating on her. Diana enters and Ben says he and the girls will get some food. Coco tells Diana it’s good to see her as she passes, and Ben and Diana exchange looks of understanding. Maggie tells Diana about the donor. Diana hasn’t received the letter but thinks Maggie can tell her anything. Maggie says she never wanted for anything growing up (although Diana notes she didn’t let her get a tattoo), but this time she wanted to be the strong one for her family. She says she was wrong, because it was Diana who taught her to be fearless. Later, Ben and Diana talk in the corridor. Ben explains about Maggie catching pneumonia and rejecting the previous stem cells: It could happen again but the donor’s the best match they could have. He notes it’s their last chance.

Willow searches the motel room for money but quickly puts everything straight as Justin comes back. She tells him she wants to go for a walk. Justin insists on going with her, saying the garage and his family can cope without him. As they walk by the beach, Justin suggests he talk to Brody about getting her some work at Salt. Willow says she’s already tried that and she’ll get some bar work in Yabbie Creek. She says she doesn’t want pity but Justin insists it’s care. He says one things he’s learnt is you have to avoid triggers and wonders why her gambling started. Willow denies that it’s an addiction.

Alf runs into Hunter outside the surf club. He says that the gym is his as long as he wants it: John has arranged for Mason to come by and lock up. They run into Christina and she and Alf introduce themselves to each other. Alf sings Hunter’s praises to her before Hunter and Christina go inside. Near the bait shop, Willow asks Justin for her phone in order to call Russell. Dialling a number, she asks to speak to him and plays Justin the on call music over the speaker. Alf comes along and asks Justin to look at an engine. After they’ve moved away, Willow says to let Russell know she called. Checking Justin isn’t looking, she gets out her note.

Diana gets Maggie a drink while Ben looks on. Diana wants to stick around but Ben and Maggie convince her to go home; she says she’s only two hours away if they need anything. Ziggy and Coco return and Ziggy apologises for what she said before. Diana gives her travel vouchers worth $5000 as a late wedding present, having heard the honeymoon was cut short. Ziggy says she wanted her at the wedding but it was a rush. At the gym, Christina lets Hunter take a break. She invites him to watch a lactate threshold test she’s doing and also suggests she could get courtside tickets. Hunter notes he’s surprised she doesn’t quit teaching but Christina says she likes working with students. She gets him to start on squats.

Willow is on the phone to someone, convincing them to give her credit. She starts reading out the race details but Justin snatches the phone off her and says the bet’s off. He wonders if she still says she isn’t addicted. Willow storms back to the motel, nearly slamming the door on Justin, and turns the radio on, listening in frustration as her horse comes in. Justin doesn’t think it matters but Willow says he cost her thousands and she could have paid off the debt. Justin snaps that she was gambling with other people’s money and lost $3000 in one go. Willow realises he’s been talking to Dean, who she suspects passed her on to him when she got too much. She shuts herself in the bathroom.

Ben, Ziggy and Coco are all masked and gowned around Maggie. Ziggy wonders if Diana would have given her the money if she hadn’t apologised. Coco jokingly complains that she’s the one that’s nice to Diana yet Ziggy gets the money, and Ziggy quips Diana might give Coco money if she finds someone desperate enough to marry her. Ben points out Maggie needs rest so the girls go. Maggie thanks Ben for calling Diana. At the gym, Hunter and Christina are now on their own. Hunter lies on his back doing stretches. Christina directs him to bring his leg up and roll over, putting her hand over his to adjust the position. They both look uncomfortable; Hunter says he’s got it and Christina backs off.

Willow remains in the bathroom at the motel with Justin the other side of the door. He tries to get her to let him help but Willow says he can’t because he’s her trigger: Her gambling got out of control when they broke up.
