Extended Summary
Justin asks Dean if this is a lovers’ tiff and Dean replies that he wouldn’t go to Justin about that. He says Willow’s in trouble and in debt. Thinking he wants money, Justin starts to walk away. Dean stops him by saying that Willow’s gambling and it’s serious. At the Diner, Raffy, Ryder and Ty banter as they eat together. John and Marilyn ask if they should be getting back to school. Raffy and Ryder leave but Ty stays to finish an English assignment. John and Marilyn sidle over and ask him about his first day back at school and if anyone’s picking on him. John says Ty’s still himself and Ty says he wants to go back to school after lunch. Marilyn tells him not to dawdle and John says they’re proud of him.
Justin brings Dean a beer from the house. Dean says Willow’s got so bad that she lost $3000 that wasn’t hers (although he doesn’t say where the money came from) and nearly sold the Triumph. Justin realises this is why she was sacked from the gym and asks how much she owes but Dean says he’s got that handled: He wants Justin to help Willow. Justin doesn’t think she’d appreciate a knight in shining armour and Dean agrees she wouldn’t tell him straightaway but thinks she trusts Justin and listens to him. He didn’t realise there was a problem until it was too late so he’s not the person to help her. He adds that Justin being Willow’s friend doesn’t mean they have to be mates. He walks away, taking out his phone. At the flat, Willow grabs her phone and starts to use the app. She’s interrupted by a text from Dean asking to meet.
At school, a new girl, Abbie, approaches Raffy in the corridor and asks about her boyfriend, mocking the fact that she had to date someone she already lived with. Abbie wonders if he’s dumped her already and is amused that he has, calling her a loser and suggesting she will ask him out herself. Raffy starts to make a retort but stops herself, just saying Abbie should do that. Ryder intervenes and walks away with Raffy, wondering if she was going to rat out Ty. Raffy says she just wanted them to stop. Near the beach, Willow meets up with Dean. She says he was right before and suggests they use the money from the card skimming to have fun. Dean however says that things have been too intense and calls her high maintenance. He breaks up with her. Willow is upset but Dean walks away.
Down on the beach, Hunter is running an obstacle course which includes leaping over poles and running in tyres, timing himself. Alf comes along and notes Hunter took the milk crates from the bait shop. Hunter says it’s a lactose acid test for his prac assessment and he’s his own guinea pig. He asks Alf to time him. At the Diner, Olivia is fretting to Irene and Marilyn about the wedding dress she has to design, saying she only did Ziggy’s because she’s a friend. Irene convinces her the client must have seen her work and liked it. Marilyn adds that she has the benefit of wedding tax. Olivia thinks she’s joking but Marilyn says she’s had three weddings so she knows.
Roo has called her class together and wonders where Raffy and Ty are. Ryder flounders until Ty comes in and Abbie says Raffy went to sickbay with a broken heart. Ryder quietly tells Ty that Raffy got a hard time for being dumped and he hasn’t seen her since. Ty thinks it’s another reason for her to hate him. Roo asks if they want to share and Ryder covers by saying they were discussing if they were doing Ancient Egypt…in an English class. Meanwhile, Raffy is sat on a bench near the beach. Marilyn comes along and Raffy says she was just going back to school. Marilyn stops her and Raffy explains about how she was teased for being dumped and can’t tell anyone why. She notes Ty’s the only boy that liked her and it wasn’t real. Marilyn says he was just the first and if Raffy is herself then someone will see how amazing she is.
Justin finds Willow on the beach and asks her what the problem was when she was on the wharf before. Willow eventually says Dean broke up with her. Justin says he wasn’t expecting that and commiserates her. He sees Dean watching them from the headland but doesn’t say anything to Willow and hugs her. Dean walks away. Later, on the veranda outside the Diner, Justin asks Willow what’s different this time. He says he saw the advert for the Triumph. Willow claims Russell told her to sell it to pay the nursing home bills. Justin says he doesn’t believe her and suggests it’s to do with her being out of work. Willow admits she has a gambling problem.
Olivia approaches Irene outside the Diner and says that she’s measured up the client, who loves her ideas and is going to look stunning in the dress. However, she only has two weeks to do it. Meanwhile, Marilyn returns Raffy to school and tells Roo they were doing a coastal study. Roo sends Raffy off with Ryder and Ty and tells Marilyn that Alf filled her in on Raffy and Ty. Ty asks Raffy if she’s okay but Raffy says she can handle it and he should just worry about himself.
Dean meets Brett near the beach. Brett muses that he tried surfing once but didn’t have the patience. Dean says Willow’s out of it and the debt is all his. He doesn’t have money but he has skills and contacts. Brett realises he’s offering to work it off and says it will take a long time. At the Diner, Olivia approaches Hunter, who is typing up his proposal for his (female) tutor. Olivia notes she’s working on the dress and comments they’re both planning for the future. She suggests they get something to eat.
Back at the school, Abbie is again giving Raffy a hard time with both Ryder and Ty nearby, suggesting she’s frigid. After Ryder tries to intervene, Ty snaps at Abbie to shut up. Abbie asks why he dumped Raffy if he thinks she’s great and Ty replies that he’s gay. He suddenly realises how many people are in the corridor looking at him and quickly walks out of school. Raffy looks stricken.
