Extended Summary

Hazel’s body is wheeled out of the motel room while McCarthy questions Robbo. Robbo tries to tell him that Ebony is Hazel’s daughter, she was the one causing trouble for Colby and Colby could be in danger. However, McCarthy doesn’t believe Hazel had a daughter and is only interested in how the situation reflects badly on Robbo. Meanwhile, Colby remains on his own in the flat, motionless until he slumps to the ground.

Down in the Diner, Dean complains about the lack of talk from Willow and wonders if he should be worrying about her problem. Willow says she doesn’t have any money to bet with, even though their rent’s due soon. She asks if he’s spoken to Ash and Dean says he’s waiting for him to settle. Willow says he still has her and Colby. Dean is unhappy about Colby blaming them for him getting fired but Willow says to hate the person who planted the phone. She drags Dean up to the flat; they get no answer from their knocks but Willow leads the way in and finds Colby. She calls for an ambulance while Dean realises Colby isn’t breathing and gives chest compressions.

Ben arrives home and tells Maggie he’s off work until after the wedding: The boards are finished and delivered. Maggie is sorting out party favours for the guests and notes that, having stopped treatment, she has no headaches or nausea for the first time in ages. She asks Ben if he’s got everything sorted and Ben says his speech is nearly finished. Maggie asks if he’s ready for the father/daughter waltz. Ben is thrown, thinking it’s a bit old-fashioned for Ziggy and pointing out he didn’t even waltz with Maggie at their wedding. Maggie replies that that’s because he was drunk. Later, Ben runs into Alf at the Diner and says he’s running wedding errands. He asks if Alf knows about waltzes before explaining. Alf says he needs a good dance teacher.

McCarthy brings Robbo to the police station and tells him Colby’s on the way to hospital. Robbo says if McCarthy calls the feds they’ll confirm his story. At the hospital, Tori and Jasmine lead a team of nurses in looking after Colby. Willow and Dean are told to wait outside. Colby is intubated and placed on life support. When Jasmine and Tori check him later, they find that instead of stabilising, he’s still tachycardic and his BP is rising. Tori realises his arms are stiff and Jasmine notices a puncture mark. Tori goes to ask Willow and Dean if Colby could have taken drugs but they say there was nothing like that and Colby never touched the stuff because his stepdad had a drug problem. Tori wonders if someone could have injected him but tells them they should take a break.

Willow and Dean walk outside the surf club. Dean complains that no-one cares about Colby now they know he’s a River Boy. They run into Alf and Willow gives him the rent money. Alf caustically suggests they pay on time in future, prompting Dean to storm off. Alf knows Colby was taken away in an ambulance and Willow explains he’s on life support. She goes over to Dean and says the rent money was her last pay from the gym. She wonders if the person that hurt Colby is the one that planted the burner on her and if they should tell the police; Dean thinks the police have been no good so far. Meanwhile, Jasmine brings Colby back from scans. She and Tori look over his tests and blood work and notice he has a high level of suxamethonium in his blood, even though records confirm Jasmine only gave him one ampule.

McCarthy interviews Robbo, who maintains that Ebony set him up. McCarthy is doubtful of his story that Ebony killed her own mother. Robbo says he never saw Hazel before outside of newspapers, but recalls hearing Ebony talking to someone in the motel room. He attempts to leave but McCarthy produces the second bottle of poison, which was found in the bin at Robbo’s flat. He says he’s charging him with murder. Later, Robbo is photographed and fingerprinted. McCarthy says he’ll be taken to the city prior to his bail hearing. Robbo wants to call Lance but McCarthy says the feds aren’t going to swoop in and save him this time.

Tori and Jasmine continue to ponder Colby’s lack of improvement, resorting to icepacks. Tori realises he could have malignant hypothermia, a reaction to the muscle relaxant. She wonders if there’s anything in his notes or if his family might know. Jasmine knows he isn’t in touch with his mother and sister so suggests calling Willow and Dean. The pair come in and Tori explains her theory. They maintain they’re Colby’s only family but can’t provide any useful information. Tori admits Colby may need to be airlifted to the city and the next twenty-four hours are crucial. Dean goes in to sit with Colby and vows to find who did it.

Ben has his tablet propped up on the table, playing a video of a dance lesson, but has a hard time watching it while doing the dance moves. He tries again, holding the tablet while he spins around, but manages to knock the box of favours over. Maggie comes in and wryly comments on his move. As she fixes the damage, Ben says he remembers seeing Maggie dance with her father at their wedding, how happy and proud she looked, and wants to do the same for Ziggy. Maggie reminds him that she’s a teacher and they never had their dance. The two of them waltz together.

Colby continues to lie in his hospital bed, with Jasmine watching him through the glass. In his caravan, Dean is drinking and making phone calls; it sounds like he is trying to get the River Boys to help out but they aren’t interested in helping an ex-cop. Dean throws his beer bottle against the wall in anger.
