Extended Summary

Dean comes out of his van and McCarthy and another officer (possibly Corelli) approach. McCarthy says they had a report that Dean was brawling with Colby. Dean says Colby was never there: In fact, he is hiding inside the van. Willow appears as Dean says his mate Bluey was there earlier and offers to get him to come and confirm it. McCarthy calls out to Colby who eventually emerges. McCarthy tells him he doesn’t need a drunk and disorderly charge and to consider whether he’s still cut out for the job. Outside the Diner, Justin is on the phone to Ava, saying he can’t make her party because he has to work and asking her to text him when she opens her present. Leah approaches and Justin explains, saying that he has to be the bad guy and adding that he can’t do anything until Hazel’s caught.

In the Diner, Alf, Leah, Roo, Ben and Maggie discuss vlogging. Alf is dismissive of the idea of telling people what you’re doing but Maggie compliments Leah on her report on the singles night. Ben and Maggie go to leave but Maggie feels dizzy and has to sit down again; she’s still weak after chemo. Leah and Roo attempt to take her mind off it by discussing wedding plans but when Roo asks what Maggie’s wearing she decides to go. As Ben and Maggie walk along the beach, Ben wonders if they should ask Brody and Ziggy for a firm date. Maggie explains what’s bothering her: She often looks at their wedding album, but when Ziggy looks at hers she’ll see Maggie with cancer on the photos. Ben suggests she’ll just be glad her mother was there to support her.

Willow pokes through the ashes of the fire and finds Colby’s burned police badge. Dean says Colby’s throwing away his career and assures Willow that they weren’t fighting. However, he does say Colby blamed him for what happened to Bella and that the accident and Jai’s death was all for nothing. He points to Colby’s River Boy tattoo and says that he can get rid of his police badge but he’ll always have that. Willow helps the drunken Colby back to his flat and tries to find something for him to eat in the fridge. She says he’s lucky to have Dean. Colby thinks Dean hates him. Willow replies that Dean thinks of Colby as a brother, then discovers Colby’s asleep. She looks at his file on Bella and puts the burned police badge on top of it.

At the Diner, Leah and Roo see a comment on the dating vlog from a young woman who was given courage to ask out the guy she likes. Roo asks what Leah’s going to do next. Ben comes in, saying Maggie isn’t eating much but liked their cake so he’ll take another piece. They offer help for the wedding and Ben explains about Maggie being worried about how she looks, even though he thinks she still looks fantastic. Meanwhile, Justin approaches Willow at Salt and asks for any information she has on Hazel. Willow says she already told him and the police everything and is worried that he’s going after Hazel himself. Justin explains Nina has changed her mind about him seeing Ava. He wants to go and see Colby but Willow advises him to wait, describing Colby as a bit messy.

Next morning, Maggie is looking at wedding dresses in a catalogue and Ben suggests getting the cheapest one. Leah and Roo turn up with an idea for Maggie: A selection of wigs. Maggie is willing to give it a try so Ben goes to get a mirror, mouthing a thank you at Roo. Later, Maggie tries on a succession of wigs, including a blonde one, a shaggy dark one and a bright red one. However, Ben and the others catch their breath when she tries on a brown one, lighter than her normal hair colour and with a vaguely sophisticated air. Ben says she looks beautiful and Maggie agrees it’s her. Roo goes to help Ben with the tea and Leah asks Maggie if she can talk about her in her vlog, saying it’s an inspiration to other cancer sufferers. Maggie is uncertain so Leah says she’ll show her what she’s put together and if Maggie doesn’t like it they’ll never speak of it again.

Justin runs into Colby on the beach where Colby admits to feeling a bit queasy. Justin asks if Colby can give him any information on Hazel, saying he rang the station but they were unhelpful. Colby admits he’s been suspended and says he can’t help him. When Justin tells him about not being allowed to see Ava, Colby says he understands more than Justin knows but doesn’t elaborate. Later, Justin approaches Dean and Willow in the Diner and asks if there’s something he should know about Colby, saying it feels like he keeps putting his foot in it with him. Dean gives them some space as Willow offers to explain.

Leah shows Maggie the video on her laptop: A voiceover from Leah talks about Maggie over clips of her with her head shaved, which Maggie is initially uncomfortable with. However, it shows her being happy and cheeky and Leah’s voiceover invites people to click on a link to donate to cancer research. Leah offers to delete it but Maggie says it’s beautiful and to post it. Meanwhile, Justin turns up at the Diner flat. Colby apologises for being abrupt earlier but Justin says he’s heard about his sister and also apologises. Colby invites him in and offers him help, saying Hazel was tracked to a safe house in Reefton Lakes but had already gone. Justin gets a text from Ava thanking him for the present and explains. Colby agrees birthdays are hard and Justin says he’ll do anything he can to help Colby with Bella. Bonded, they get down to work.
