Extended Summary
Jasmine and Willow have headed into the store cupboard for a private chat where Willow insists she was just taking her wages. John and Ryder are looking over the juice bar and Ryder explains about working out new smoothies. John notices the money in the till doesn’t match the receipts and thinks Ryder has made a mistake. Willow and Jasmine overhear and Willow hands John the cash, saying she took more than she needed to pay for the delivery. At the Diner flat, Colby is looking through his files, as well as a clipping about his gang past. He notices a hand-written note with details of a car and rings someone up, telling them to check the plates again and ring him on his mobile rather than at work.
Justin finds Raffy and Ty at the Diner but they assure him Alf and John are keeping an eye on them from the nearby table. Justin tells Raffy that he isn’t invited to Ava’s party anymore. Raffy wonders if she can call her on her birthday. Justin thinks she should but if Nina doesn’t let her then it’s not Raffy’s fault. He joins Alf and John, saying he doesn’t want Raffy and Ty to think they’re in a police state. John is in favour of ankle bracelets while Alf thinks it would take a small city to keep them apart. At Salt, Jasmine asks Willow about the money, wondering if it’s because of Justin and pointing out Ryder was nearly blamed. Willow says she needs rent money, especially with Dean out of work. Jasmine offers to lend her the money, giving her what she has and saying she’ll give her the rest tomorrow. Dean approaches and views it as beer money. Willow corrects him and chides him for not getting a job. Dean thinks he has enough money for a pizza.
Coco comes into the surf club to check on Ryder after his first shift, thanking him for helping cheer her up the other day. Roo also comes in and asks Ryder how his first day went: He says he got accused of stealing and John thinks mould on the fruits gives flavour. Up at Salt, Willow and Dean are arguing over what pizza to have. Colby sits at the next table and Dean needles him about not having any police friends around. Colby isn’t in the mood for banter, telling him to focus on his date. Dean invites him to join them but Colby gets a call from the person he spoke to earlier. He tries to tell him something’s just temporary but ends up yelling at him to go to hell and walking out.
Next morning, Colby and Dean run into each other on the beach while going for a surf. Dean asks about the call and Colby explains he runs his stepdad’s plates every now and then to see if anything new’s cropped up. He asked an old detective friend to do it but he found out about his suspension. Dean suggests that they bet a crate of beer over who can catch an aerial first. At the Palmer house, John and Marilyn are keeping an eye on Raffy and Ty. The teens make an overdramatic claim that Raffy has touched Ty’s fork and hand, getting a weary reaction. Ty gets a text from Ryder mentioning the RyTy but tells Raffy it’s nothing. John says Ty’s going to the surf club with him again.
Shortly after, Coco and Raffy are chatting about Ty at the Diner but Raffy quickly starts talking about bees when Ryder approaches. Ryder tells them to follow his lead and tells Alf that the three of them need to go somewhere and study. Alf says it’s up to Marilyn and they claim they’ll tell her on the way out. Alf sceptically lets them go. On the beach nearby, Jasmine gives Willow the money. Willow says she’ll pay her back and Jasmine tells her to make sure she does it legitimately. Seeing Alf and Roo, Willow goes over and pays them the money. Alf says to keep him informed in future.
Colby and Dean are sharing a drink at the caravan park; Dean lost the bet. He tries reminiscing about when they’d steal Colby’s stepdad’s scotch and he’d chase them but Colby doesn’t have as fond memories, saying he had to face him when he got home. Alf and Roo see them and comment on how Colby’s messing up his chances even further. Later, Colby is drinking heavily. Dean tells him his police friends haven’t been much help and Colby’s response is to take his police badge, which he was meant to hand in, and throw it on the fire, stopping Dean from retrieving it. Dean suggests they get the River Boys to help look for Bella but Colby thinks that worked out badly before and if he’d been on his own then the accident wouldn’t have happened and he might have got to his mum and sister. He throws his beer bottle away, smashing it. Dean tries to stop him going and Colby takes a swing at him but ends up on the floor. He feels it has all been for nothing.
Raffy and Ty meet up on the beach, with a makeshift picnic behind an upturned boat. Ty explains he got John out of the way by saying there was a rat in the store room. Ryder and Coco are acting as lookout from the pier; Ryder tells Coco about a documentary he saw on genome rewriting that might help cancer patients and offers to send her the link. Raffy asks Ty if she’s his girlfriend; he says she is and they kiss. Coco wonders what they’re doing (since she and Ryder can only see the back of the boat). Ryder gives a pointed look then suggests Raffy’s talking non-stop and Ty has missed his chance. Meanwhile, Justin arrives home and finds an answerphone message from his lawyer, Sarah Wheeler: She says he should have told her about the kidnapping and there’s no way he’ll be given custody until the situation’s resolved.
Dean gives Colby some water. He asks if he meant what he said before and accuses him of walking away. Colby retorts that Dean’s never cared about anyone enough to be hurt by losing them. Dean suggests Bella’s better off without Colby, then hears sirens and sees police cars coming. He tells Colby to go, since the police can’t find them together. Colby looks like he’s not sure if he cares.
