Robbo returns to basic police training in order to get his job back. But can he tick all the required boxes? Ash returns to the bay as a changed man. How long can Willow string Dean along?

Extended Summary

Willow exits a caravan. Dean tries to get her to stay but she says she has to get to work and wonders if he has; he says the garage is still closed and suggests he meet her after the class. Meanwhile, Irene serves Ash and Tori at the Diner and welcomes Ash back. Ash tells Tori that he went to see Patrick, who’s now at a vineyard near Newcastle. Justin comes in and happily greets Ash. Tori takes this as an excuse to leave. Justin reminds Ash he disappeared without telling her. Ash asks if Robbo is still around. Justin is frustrated that he’s brought it up and says he hasn’t seen him for a few days.

At a police training centre, Lance is amused at Robbo dressed up like one of the trainees, reminding him he has to pass physical and psychological tests to be allowed back on duty. Robbo wishes Lance had told him that before he signed up. The instructor calls the group together. Back at the Diner, Irene warns Olivia not to gape at Ash but agrees that he seems less angry. Justin fills Ash in on the problem with Ebony and Fair Trading and says he needs him to help out. Ash apologises for not calling but says Justin had just had problems with Ava. Justin admits Nina won’t let Ava come to Summer Bay anymore. He also reveals he split up with Willow and she’s now with Dean.

Dean finds Willow at the surf club and suggests they have lunch together but she claims John has asked her to help with an inventory. Dean then gets a text about Ash being back and heads off to meet him. Willow mentions it to Tori but Tori is less than friendly towards her, accusing her of parading her new relationship in front of Justin. Willow says she broke up with him because she loves him. They go down the beach where Willow says sometimes someone is better off without you. She explains about Nina’s ultimatum and says she can’t come between a father and daughter. Tori notes it’s actually quite selfless and she knows sometimes love isn’t enough. Willow asks her not to tell Justin. She admits she wasn’t planning to get together with Dean and is using him but doesn’t want to hurt him.

At the academy, the instructor tells everyone except Robbo to stop doing push-ups, directing Robbo to do a few more. Lance explains to one of the cadets, Jason, that you need a Level 5 pass for specialist operations. The instructor reminds them they’re going on a 10K endurance run later. Robbo decides to train rather than spend his break with Lance. Later, Robbo is leading the pack as the class pound through the bush. Jason tries to overtake him but Robbo startles him by claiming there’s a snake and rounds the cones first.

Ash and Dean are playing pool at the surf club. Ash comments on Dean’s new missus and warns him dating the boss’ ex is not a good idea. Dean insists it’s been coming for a while. Willow and Tori come in and Willow claims John gave up on the inventory, agreeing to lunch with Dean. Tori agrees to have a drink with Ash. In Salt, he tells her he spoke to a doctor and learned he has anger issues. He says he didn’t call her because he wasn’t ready.

Willow and Dean arrive back at the caravan park. Dean suggests they meet up in the evening but Willow says she needs to call it a night. Dean asks if she’s into their relationship and Willow says she is, she’s just tired after the early starts. Dean says he’ll be round in the morning with a coffee. Willow goes inside, looking somewhat weary, and uses the gambling app again. Back at Salt, Ash asks Tori about Robbo, a subject she doesn’t seem keen to discuss. Ash confirms he still hates him but says he got obsessive and took things too far. Tori acknowledges she made bad choices too. Ash says the only thing he regrets is losing her but Tori makes a quick exit.

Next morning, at the academy, Jason asks Robbo why he needed to win. Robbo says it was because Jason did. Jason asks if it’s true that Robbo’s done training before. Robbo isn’t keen to discuss the reasons but Jason says some of them were wondering what it was like. Lance cuts the conversation short, needing to talk to Robbo. Meanwhile, Willow is sat on her caravan steps, looking at the gambling app, which shows she is $400 in the red. Dean turns up with the coffees and Willow kisses him and drags him inside the van.

At the Diner, Olivia serves Ash while Irene is about to serve Tori when she has to go and answer the phone. Ash and Tori briefly chat, agreeing to catch up. Irene comes back concerned and says that Mick’s had an accident at the mine, breaking his arm and being unconscious for a while. She has to go and be with him. She apologises to Ash but he understands and says he’ll keep an eye on things. Later, Tori fills Justin in on the beach and notes Ash seems calmer now. They see Dean and try to avoid him but he approaches them and asks Justin about his next shift. Justin replies that he’s fired and isn’t worth it. Dean says that’s not what Willow thought earlier and Justin punches him.

Soon after, at the Diner, Ash and Tori both take Justin to task. Justin accepts that he might not have been right to hit Dean but says he was right to fire him. Tori gives up and leaves. Ash asks Justin if hitting Dean made him feel better or got it out of his system. Justin reminds Ash he left him to handle it. Ash calmly asks if Justin wants to hit him as well. Back at the academy, Lance tells Robbo he’s acing the physical but they’re not happy with the psych: He’s unco-operative and refusing to talk about things. Robbo says they just want to talk about his family and he’s not going to jump through the counsellors’ hoops. Lance says he won’t be allowed back on duty if he doesn’t.
