Willow’s love life takes a messy, unexpected turn. It is a particularly difficult day for Colby. Raffy and Ty become friends…but is that all?

Extended Summary

Dean and Willow are still taking up table space in Salt as Colby comes in for a takeaway. Brody confirms they’ve been there a while. Willow and Dean sidle up to Colby and Dean tries to get him to buy them a beer but Colby thinks they’ve had enough and Brody agrees. Colby gets a text from Jasmine saying she’s just finished a shift and suggesting they meet up, so he leaves. Willow and Dean buy a bottle of wine to take away with Willow dragging Dean out. They head to her caravan where Willow unsuccessfully attempts to open the bottle. Dean suggests they go to bed and Willow responds by kissing him. Dean seems uncertain but Willow removes her top and kisses him again, dragging them both down onto the bed.

Next morning, Ty and Raffy are being polite to each other over breakfast and discussing the day’s school. Marilyn wonders to John what it’s about and John suggests puberty. Raffy points out they can hear them. The teens head off to school, leaving John deciding not to question it. The pair meet up with Ryder and Coco near the beach. Ryder and Ty chat about the fact neither of them have done homework. Coco notes Raffy and Ty are getting on better. Raffy asks about her and Ryder. Coco still isn’t keen to tell him about Jeremy.

At the Diner flat, Colby and Jasmine have obviously spent the night together. Jasmine comments that she needs to break the rules and move a toothbrush in. Colby can only offer her toast and declines an offer to meet up later, saying he has work stuff to do. After she’s gone, he looks at a photo of Bella with a birthday cake. Later, in the Diner, John finds Justin doing work. Justin admits that he can’t sleep and Ava still isn’t better. Noting Colby at the counter, he loudly says it doesn’t help that Hazel is still out there. Colby insists that Hazel knows how to disappear, despite Justin saying his family spent seven years in hiding and were always found. Colby says Ava is safe and Justin asks if he knows what it’s like to have the person that hurt someone you loved still out there. Jasmine comes in as Colby is insisting they’re doing everything they can, with neither Justin nor John impressed.

Willow wakes up and looks mortified to find herself with Dean, nudging him awake. She suggests he goes to work or for a surf but he fails to take the hint, saying that wouldn’t be gentlemanly. He offers to go and get coffee for them, kissing her goodbye and agreeing with her comment the previous night that he knows how to make her feel better. He goes to Salt to order two coffees from Brody. Brody guesses one is for Willow and knows her usual order. He attempts to none-too-subtly ask what they got up to after they left. Dean says it’s none of his business.

Ben is working at the school and is surprised to see Maggie turn up. She explains a teacher called in sick so she’s going to take a class and go to her hospital appointment after. Her appearance seems to draw attention from students as Ben is called away by a work colleague. Maggie passes Coco, Ryder, Raffy and Ty. Ty confirms he doesn’t have a locker and Coco offers to talk to Maggie. Everyone is bemused when Raffy lets Ty share her locker. Later, Maggie walks into the Year 11 class, prompting instant quiet. She starts to write on the board then stops, telling them it’s obvious she has cancer (and getting a laugh by suggesting the alternative explanation for the head scarf is that she’s a fortune teller). She asks if there are any questions. Ty nervously raises a hand and asks if she’s scared. Maggie says some days she is but she’s not dealing with it alone.

Jasmine finds Colby on the wharf and asks if he’s okay, noting he seemed to take it personally earlier. Colby again doesn’t want to talk, dismissing it as a work thing. Willow appears but Colby isn’t keen to talk to her either and walks off. Willow nearly throws up and admits to Jasmine that everything’s a mess. Meanwhile, Brody is putting stuff in the bins outside the surf club and sees Justin on his way down to the beach. He awkwardly tells him that Willow and Dean left Salt together. Justin asks if they slept together. There is an uncomfortable silence before Justin walks away.

Willow and Jasmine are walking on the beach; Willow has filled Jasmine in on both her night with Dean and her reason for breaking up with Justin. Jasmine thinks Justin could fight to see Ava but Willow doesn’t want him to have to go through that. She adds her night with Dean was the latest in a series of brief liaisons and, even though he does make her feel better, she doesn’t want to be with him. Jasmine thinks she should be honest with both of them; Justin would want to know why she broke up and Dean needs to know where he stands.

Ryder, Ty, Coco and Raffy turn up at the Diner, discussing Maggie. John and Marilyn watch the new friendship group with bemusement from the counter. The others ask Ty about his question and he explains his gran died of cancer and he never got to talk to her about it. Raffy goes to get milkshakes. John and Marilyn question her about her new attitude and she says she was wrong about Ty. Ryder is annoyed to see Coco exchanging texts with Jeremy about Maggie. Another boy bumps into Raffy, causing her to drop her money. Ty gives him an annoyed warning and helps her pick it up; there seems to be a moment between them.

The teens walk along the beach, complimenting Ty on his bravery for facing up to the other boy. Ryder insists he’d have had his back if it came to a fight. He invites Coco round his but Coco declines. Ryder is initially annoyed but backs off when she says she wants to be there when Maggie gets back from hospital. He instead takes Ty off to get a juice. Coco asks Raffy if she likes Ty and Raffy denies it more times than is necessary. Further along, Justin and Brody are approached by Willow, who asks to talk to Justin. Justin however tells her he knows about her and Dean and she was right before: She’s not good enough for him.

That evening, Jasmine runs into Colby at Salt but he again cuts short their conversation and heads off. Nearby, Willow and Dean are at a table. Willow starts to talk but Dean says he knows she’s going to say their night together was a mistake. However, he still thinks they should get back together, saying they only broke up because he went to jail. Willow thinks it was more than that and Dean concedes the point but thinks they’ve changed. Despite looking like she’s hoping for a hole to swallow her, Willow agrees and kisses him.

In his flat, Colby has set up a cupcake with a candle on it. He quickly blows it out when Jasmine barges in with takeaway. She apologises and he admits it’s Bella’s birthday. Jasmine thinks it’s a nice gesture but Colby dubs it stupid: He hasn’t seen her in six years, and has achieved nothing, with even his attempt to challenge his stepfather leading to him taking Bella away and Dean going to jail. He says if he saw Bella now he wouldn’t even recognise her.
