Extended Summary

Tori and Jasmine are among those on duty as Craig brings in Boyd, with Colby trailing. Craig explains Boyd was conscious when they arrived but may have a cardiac tamponade. Dean is brought through with minor injuries and Tori says to get Doctor Simmonds to see him. Justin also brings Ava through on the way to Paediatrics. Meanwhile, Ash and Hunter have just finished a surf when Hunter gets a text from Mason saying Ava’s been found, although he doesn’t give any details. Ash decides to head to the hospital.

Olivia is cursing her laptop as she tries to get her website working. Hunter arrives at the beach house as Irene comes downstairs and comments on the clothes strewn everywhere. Hunter tells them about Ava being back, then points out Olivia hasn’t plugged the WiFi in. He offers to help and Olivia agrees to let him show her. Irene suggests she turn the spare room into a sewing room. Meanwhile, Robbo and Lance pull off the road on the edge of town. Lance says he could have dropped Robbo off at his door but Robbo says he needs the fresh air. Lance notes they could have set Robbo up anywhere. Robbo thinks he owes some people an explanation. He invites Lance to come for a walk.

Jasmine tells Dean the vehicle only clipped him and he should recover. Dean notes it’s his only good knee. Colby pops by to check on him, telling him that Ava’s fine and they’re working on Boyd. Jasmine tells Colby the police want drug and alcohol checks. Justin and Ava are in a room nearby waiting for a counsellor. Ava says she’s sorry and Justin says it wasn’t her fault. Ash comes by and gives Ava a cuddly toy. Jasmine is taking the samples from Colby and he explains he’s under police escort and that there’ll be an investigation: He’ll be asked for his badge and gun. The staff are still trying to stabilise Boyd for theatre.

McCarthy is supervising forensics at the scene of the incident, saying the Integrity Commission will want to know everything. Boyd’s phone rings and McCarthy answers it: It’s Hazel. McCarthy tells her Boyd’s in hospital after a police shooting and asks for her details but she rings off. She calls someone called Ebony, saying it’s about her brother. Ebony heads to the hospital: She is dressed in professional-looking clothes and, on seeing a discarded stethoscope and clipboard, grabs them as a disguise. Colby is chatting to Jasmine who says Boyd is bleeding into his lung. Then Boyd arrests and Jasmine goes to help Tori and the others. Ebony loiters nearby, watching.

Robbo and Lance go to the Diner flat. Robbo still can’t quite believe that he can just walk away but Lance says the charges have been dropped and everything he did was in the line of duty. He gives Robbo a bag containing the photos of his old life and other personal items including his credit cards: His pay has been going into his account. Robbo is uncomfortable that it’s in the name Ryan Shaw, saying that’s not who he is anymore, but Lance says whatever he calls himself it’s the only identity he’s got. He also gives Robbo his police badge, saying officially he’s back on the payroll. He tells him to think about it.

At the hospital, Tori is leading resuscitation of Boyd but it seems to be a losing battle. McCarthy approaches Colby saying he needs to come to the station. Colby wants to know what happens with Boyd so McCarthy gives him ten minutes. Jasmine points out to Tori that it’s been twenty-five minutes: After giving final checks, Tori pronounces Boyd dead. She goes out and tells Colby, explaining Boyd lost too much blood. Colby and McCarthy leave. Ebony, who has been in earshot the whole time, discards her disguise and follows them out. Tori goes to check on Dean; Ash is with him. She tells him he needs to stay in hospital overnight. Dean tells Ash he’s not sure how to act towards Colby now he’s saved his life.

At the police station, Colby hands over everything pertaining to the case. McCarthy formally suspends him pending the investigation and takes his badge, reminding him it’s against protocol to fire at a moving vehicle. Colby says he’s never fired his gun outside a range before. McCarthy sympathises, saying you know you might have to use it but it’s hard, and hopes they get Colby back soon. Colby heads to the flat, morose, and is shocked when Robbo comes out of the inner door. Colby says he didn’t expect to see Robbo again and Robbo offers to explain.

Hunter has got the Liv Design site up and says there’s no fee. Olivia jokingly offers him one of her new designs as payment. Hunter suggests they go for a swim and Olivia says she needs to tidy up for Irene. Hunter suggests meeting afterwards but Olivia tells him to stop: She can’t handle just being friends and needs to take a step back. Meanwhile, Justin, Tori and Ava arrive home, with Justin on the phone to Nina. He hands it over to Ava, who says she’s fine and wanders off into her room to continue the talk. Tori checks on Justin, who says he’s been waiting for two days to have Ava home safe, and hugs him.

Ebony has gone to the barn to fill in Hazel. Hazel is upset, saying Boyd didn’t deserve it. Ebony agrees, saying they were double-crossed by people who owed them money. She says everyone, including “the doctor who let him die”, told “the cop” it wasn’t his fault. Hazel says everyone involved in any way is going to burn. Ebony agrees but says to let her do it her way. Hazel starts crying and Ebony walks away from her, showing no emotion.

Robbo has filled in Colby, who describes it as being like a movie. Robbo thinks there wasn’t a happy ending but Colby points out at least he isn’t in jail. Robbo asks if he can stay on. Colby, without giving details, says he needs some space so the flat’s Robbo’s for a while. As he leaves with his bags packed, he runs into Jasmine, who tries to talk him out of going, suggesting he gets counselling. Colby says he joined the police for the wrong reasons and now someone’s dead because he didn’t follow the rules. Jasmine says she can help him. Colby thanks her but still leaves. Meanwhile, Ash is near the surf club, on the phone to Dean who he is getting a takeaway for. He hears Robbo call out to him and turns round, staring at Robbo in disbelief.
