Extended Summary
Alf and John are working in the loading bay at the surf club when they hear Ash and Robbo arguing and wonder how Robbo’s back. They try to intervene but both Ash and Robbo tell them to stay out of it. Ash shoves Robbo but Robbo says he just wants to talk and suggests it might give Ash some answers. At the Diner, Olivia has filled Irene, Leah and Marilyn in on her decision about Hunter, noting she was just torturing herself by trying to stay friends. Jasmine comes in, looking equally miserable, so Olivia suggests they go for a girls’ night out, inviting Leah and Marilyn along. Irene stays to look after the Diner and they decide to call Roo.
Alf and John are on the wharf, keeping an eye on the flat where Ash and Robbo are holed up. John gets a text from Marilyn telling him not to wait up. John wonders if Alf is planning to stay on watch all night, saying Roo’s out with the others so he can go home without seeing her. Alf insists things are fine. John offers to buy him a beer and Alf agrees for the novelty. Up in the flat, Ash wonders how Robbo can be there when he should be in jail. Robbo responds by showing him his police ID.
Leah, Marilyn, Roo and Jasmine, having got dolled up, meet up with Olivia outside the surf club and decide to get cocktails. Soon after, they’re sat around a table in Salt, with Roo admitting she has no idea what she’s ordered for them all. They drink a toast to moving on. Marilyn asks Jasmine if she has her eye on anyone, suggesting Mason. Leah tries to move the conversation on but Jasmine explains there is someone but he doesn’t seem as into it as her. Olivia says at least she hasn’t been outright rejected. Leah proposes another toast to good friends.
Robbo has finished telling Ash his story. Ash tries to dismiss it, insisting that Robbo is Beckett Reid. Robbo says they made Beckett Reid up. Ash is somewhat shell-shocked, unsure what to do with the information. Robbo says he understands: He was once motivated by blind vengeance, which is why he became Beckett Reid to find the people who killed his family. He suggests they can find closure. Ash wonders how he can cope with the memories but Robbo says he doesn’t want to forget anything, including Kat. He says what Ash does now is up to him.
Hunter comes into the Diner and asks Irene if she’s seen Olivia. Irene says she’s out licking her wounds. Hunter says he didn’t realise how hard it was for her and he likes hanging out with her. He wants to talk. Back at Salt, Alf and John have stopped by the ladies’ table to fill them in on Robbo being back. Jasmine explains that Colby is out of town. Marilyn starts waxing lyrical about how, since he had no other memories, Kat was like Robbo’s first love and you never forget them. Olivia looks uncomfortable at the remark, as does Alf, who hurriedly goes to find a table.
Later, Leah is musing on how much VJ looks like Vinnie, prompting Olivia to interject that he was Leah’s first husband. Jasmine wonders if there’s been any happy endings and Marilyn suggests her and John. Leah says there’s been some great loves in her life and Roo says she doesn’t regret any of them, but Olivia starts giving Jasmine some drunken advice about guys not giving as much. Commenting on the strong cocktails, Leah encourages them both to be positive, prompting Jasmine to suggest she start a vlog (which leaves Leah confused). Hunter comes in and Olivia and Jasmine retreat to the balcony. Hunter worries she thinks he’s stalking her; John gives him money for drinks, prompting a comment on it being counterfeit. Alf admits to John that he still isn’t over Martha after 30 years. Hunter offers Olivia a drink but she says she doesn’t want pity and now she’s single she can’t be told what to do. She comments to Jasmine that she’ll know in the morning whether that was a good or bad thing to say. She encourages Jasmine with her new life and new friends and suggests she moves in with her.
Next morning, Ash is on the beach staring into space. John approaches and comments on him still being in one piece. Ash says he wouldn’t believe Robbo’s story if he told him. Further along, Olivia is sat drinking. Jasmine approaches on a jog, explaining she drank lots of water to avoid a hangover. Olivia is starting to remember what she said to Hunter, and when Jasmine comments about bringing her things round, remembers inviting her to move in. Jasmine runs off, pointing Hunter in Olivia’s direction. Olivia apologises but thinks it proves she was right about them needing space. She adds that there’s something else she needs to sort out. At that moment, however, Irene finds Jasmine on her doorstep with her bags, explaining that she’s moving in.
Leah is sat outside the Diner, looking up how to start a vlog on her phone. Roo appears, looking a lot more healthy than her, and Leah claims she was looking up hangover cures. Alf is opening up the bait shop and Roo joins him. Alf admits that Martha’s visit has unsettled him so he’s going to take the Blaxland down the coast for a few days. Roo tells him to text every day so she knows he’s okay.
Olivia comes home to find Irene calling Jasmine a squatter and ordering her out and Jasmine insisting she’s staying. Olivia admits it’s her fault, then realises Irene and Jasmine know that and are play-acting. Irene is fine with it but tells Olivia she’ll have to turn her sewing room back into a bedroom. Olivia looks a bit left out as the other two head into the kitchen chatting. Later, Olivia has made up the bedroom. Jasmine is pleased with the arrangement. Irene reminds Olivia she still needs to tidy the front room; Jasmine offers to help out but Irene says Olivia will do it. Olivia again looks put out as she hears Irene making long-suffering comments about her to Jasmine.
Ash is coming up from the beach and runs into Robbo, asking if he’s following him. He says the town’s not big enough for both of them. Robbo says he has things to do and, while he’s not going to cause trouble, he’s not going to let Ash run him out of town. Later, Ash is stood by his ute near the beach: His bags are in the back. He gets in and drives off.
